The hotel owner was fantastic. Nothing was too much bother. He went out of his way to make sure we knew how to find our way around and where to visit.

We had our concerns about this hotel based on some of the reviews we read. However, in our 10 weeks of traveling through 6 different countries we found this hotel to be one of our best experiences. Contrary to some of the other reviews we found the host of the hotel to be very friendly and accommodating. Our room was large and had a beautiful little balcony and a fantastic, hot shower. The colors were bright and cheery. The location is also great, right near some lovely restaurants and only a 7-minute walk to the Old Town and oceanfront. We would definitely come back!

I chose this hotel, mainly for the reviews it had received. Had looked at many others but this ticked all the 'boxes'. I was not disappointed, had emailed before I went to ask for room no. 33 as it had a balcony(only about 4 available), and Phillipe the owner provided us we that room!It is a 2 star hotel but a very good one, Phillipe could not have been more friendly and helpful. Perfect location for discovering Nice and walking distance to both train and bus station.Close to main shopping street(clothes and supermarket).Had breakfast each day at 6 euros, criossant and bread, tea, coffee, juice, cereal. If thats what you want perfect.Only draw back there is no lift(we were at the top on the third floor 3 flights of stairs to climb). General decoration was in need of updating. With all said and done, if you are looking for a good value for money 2 star hotel in Nice, I don't think you will find any better.Enjoy if you go.

We chose Star Hotel because it provided the lowest price but got the highest rating on Venere. We're so glad that we chose it. 10-15 minutes to the station and another 15 minutes through the main street to the beach by walk. There are two supermarkets and one shopping mall in 1-minute walking distance. Given the conveience, the surrounding of the hotel is very quiet. The hotel is clean, neat, comfortable and lovely decorated. We slept quite well every night. All the staffs we met were so nice. Whatever question or help we asked for, they tried everything to answer or solve. They were even more patient than we were. I'd say it's much better than the 'professional' friendliness in the big hotel. This was a wonderful stay. I'll definitely stay at the same place if I have a chance to visit Nice again.

We have been on our vacation in Nice, France. Overall, the room was clean and relatively spacious compared to other we have seen in Paris, for example. There was a big grocery store 5 min away from the hotel. Among the negative experience there are some, such as absence of an elevator in 4 store building, the room faced on noicy side of the street (asked for quiet room location).

Quaint, quite, and colorful little hotel in nice area just off main street. Several nice restaurants & bars very close. Pleasant 10 minute walk down main street “Medecin” to get to hotel. Clean room, but small. Nice window view to little local street. Good AC. Nice bathroom, with shower/tub & amenities & 115V US socket. No free breakfast (eu$6), but it looked okay with several breads, jams, some cereal, coffees & teas. There is also a large Monoprix supermarket with a bakery, fresh meals, and more just 1 block away. Free wi-fi internet worked pretty well. Friendly & helpful & very funny attendants. No lift, so request low floor if necessary. The hotel is being renovated, so soon there will be in-room safes and other improvements.

It was a nice hotel in a good location to walk to some of the popular areas. Close to train station which was important for me as a solo train traveler. The staff was friendly but did not offer extra help even when asked. The room was small as I expected, but clean. I might stay here again if traveling alone, but would first search for another hotel with more to offer.

The Star had a great location. It was a block and a half off a main drag with lots of access to public transportation. There was also a grocery store and a mall a block away. On the downside, they have no lift so if you have heavy bags...good luck. It would be wonderful to sleep with the windows open but the streets are so noisy you need to keep them shut. So summer might be a problem. We went in September and it got a little warm but not too bad. We tried the a/c but it didn't work.

In general, a very good deal. Nice quiet location, but only two blocks from the main street and the grocery store. Only 15 to 20 minutes walking from the Old Nice City and the beach, through a safe, nice street and a main throroughfair with plenty of oportunities for window shopping and people watching.

The hotel was not as easy to find as expected. The people were not very helpful and certainly got upset if you needed assistance with televisions etc. first night there the air conditioning went off and so did the electricity. the following night the electricity kept going off. The noise from the street ie motorbikes up and down and the garbage truck made it difficult to sleep well. Probably great for young backpackers who only want the basics.

Excellent place, with free WiFi. Rooms is quite cramped but comfortable. Air-conditioning is provided as well. Breakfast a little pricy and not really that worth it. The dining room is very small and the service is rather slow (because there is only 1 person handling the whole room). Beach towels, mats, and umbrellas offered Free of Charge which is very very good!!

Excellent value hotel just off the main street and within luggage-struggling distance of the railway station and Rue Jean Medicin [the main tram route]. Also within easy walking distance of the main shops, the old town and, of course, the beach. Not too far from the bus station either. Rooms are clean and of modest size, with good en-suite, and the air con works well. All ok for the price and their use, after all you don't live there, it's just a place to sleep off the efforts of the day. Breakfast was good, continental style. Staff always very helpful and obliging, and multi-ligual : the perfect hosts, in fact. They will lend beach umbrellas etc - who else would do that ? Highly recommended. Whilst you are in Nice, use the public transport - it is so cheap, and also very comfortable: 1 euro per trip, whether one or twenty stops. We went to Grasse for 2 euros , there and back, and that's a 75 minute trip each way!

We are a couple who went to Nice to relax and to have some romantic days in the city. The hotel was perfect size, the staff was very friendly and had alot of information and recomendations about what to do/see and how to do it. The location was only a block away from a big shopping centre in the main shopping street. Only 10 minutes walk from the old city, or two stops on the "tram". No up or down hills, all flat terrain from the hotell to the beach. Would absolutely recommend the hotel, and will probably go back there again some day :-)

We flew into Nice from Paris Orly and took the shuttle bus to a stop not far from Hotel Star. We later learned that we could have easily got off the bus at the train station and walked to the hotel, but the stop we exited on was even closer to the hotel (so we saved our feet and ourselves from the heat!). Nice was absolutely beautiful. The weather was fantastic and we once again found ourselves steps away from a Monoprix (grocery store). When we arrived at the Hotel Phillipe greeted us. He was quite a hilarious guy and proved to be full of energy no matter what time of day we saw him. The hotel was small, but still roomy. Free Internet is provided and it seemed there were quite a few international travelers that had returned to the hotel for another visit. This was our first time in Nice and at Hotel Star. We likely would return, but ensure we had a room that did NOT overlook the road. This was one of the most noisy hotels we stayed at during our three week trip throughout France and the Czech Republic. It seemed there was activity on the street every night. My wife and I found ourselves stuck awake late at night and awoken early in the morning. That was the ONLY thing wrong with the hotel. It was minutes away from the beach/boardwalk and close to everything.

Hotel is perfectly located-one minute walk to Av.Jean Medecine wich is the main street which leads you to Railway station in one way and to Old city, Promenade and Bus station in the other way. Everything is in walking distance of about 10-15min, and you walk in busy and safe area even at night. Staff is more than great. I was there for 5 nights, first time in Riviera so my aim was to be OUT of the room - visiting Nice and suroundings. I didn't look for any luxury hotel and my staying in Star hotel was perfect.

Hotel is located in excellent place if you want to be in the walking distance from all the major tourist objects. The staff was very friendly and had recomended us very good restaurant(L'Ovale). We also got maps and a lot of information. The room was small and the breakfast simple but what could one expect for such a small price? The only inconvenience was the extreme noise at the night time, due to the visitors of plenty of restaurants, surrounding hotel, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Our three-night stay in the Star Hotel was a truly pleasant experience. The Hotel is ideally located between the main train station and the old town of Nice - both within 10 min walking distance. There is a choice of restaurants right next to the hotel. Our room was clean, spacious, and despite having two windows facing the street, very quiet. The bed was king-sized, and the bathroom had a tub. We had free access to the internet, were able to browse a whole library of travel literature of the region, and enjoyed a very nice breakfast for a reasonable price of 6 Euros per person. Staff was very friendly and always prepared to help. We would definitely stay again!

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights and we would definitely come back here. The welcome was great and the recommended restaurants very nice. The room was on the third floor so that kept us 'on our feet' but we were rewarded with a corner room with everything in it we needed: excellent lights over the bed, good beds, hangers in the wardrobe, a table and two chairs (no light over those), television, good heating system, windows that when shut kept the noise out, a good size bathroom with everything we needed and an excellent shower and .... everything very clean. The hotel is positioned not far from Avenu Jean Medecin and was surrounded with excellent bars and restaurants.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at the Hotel Star in November 2007. The two men at the front desk were so cheerful and helpful and welcoming. They allowed us to park directly in front of the hotel, and we had a large corner room on the 1st floor above the street. Originally we thought noise would be a problem, but the windows were thick glass and we also closed the shutters. Breakfast is not anything special, and they charge 6 euros each... instead go to the Monoprix just up the street and get your own croissants! The Promenade d'Anglais is about a 20 minute walk, as is the train station. We took an easy day trip to Monaco, it was fun! :)

The Hotel Star was definitely not plush but what it lacked in looks it made up for in comfort and convenience. However, the most overriding plus was the service, it was absolutely superb. We have stayed in loads of 4 and 5 star hotels and we have never had so much helpful unbelievable service. The hotel is about 5-10 min walk from the train station. About 10 mins from beach and 10 min walk to old town. The old town has most of the night life. There are a number of cafes and resturants on the same street as the hotel. Hotel is basic, very clean, with very helpful and friendly staff. No problem taking bags up stairs, booking taxis, and providing maps and lots of free advice. First time we stayed room small but had balcony, second time much bigger room and balcony. Would stay again.

Single room was very small but quiet & comfortable. Wifi worked in the room - just! Signal is a bit erratic on 2nd floor. Front desk staff extremely friendly and helpful.

The hotel is quite far away from the train station. It needs about 13-walk. In terms of quoted price, the hotel is not matched with the facilites of two-star hotel. There is no lift service and with small reception lobby. However, it provides free WIFI internet service and is a quiet room, near the main street and supermarket. Quite convenient.

The room was small but very lovely, unfurtunetly a little bit loud because of the street and construction works. But there is a possibility to close the door and to switch on the air condition. The staff is very friendly, the host is very helpful, speaks english!!

My first time to NICE. The hotel owners/staff were friendly and affable. They maintain good safety of the hotel by installing a security lock at the entrance. Mats and towels were also offered to guest who wants to go down to the beach (free).Room was clean, bathtub was sweet...it was a lovely hotel.

I would def. recommend this hotel to others staying in Nice. The location was great; 5 minutes from the train and about 10 from the beach. Also, there were quite a few good restaurants on the same street. The staff was so friendly and helpful, plus they provided us with beach towels and mats to use. The room decorations were a bit dated, but it was clean and so was the bathroom. Both were a bit small, but then again I was also in a triple with 2 of my friends. Overall, this hotel is a great value for the price!
