The hotel is conveniently located in a quiet area close to old Nice. The room (quadruple) was clean and had a window letting daylight in, but was a bit cramped for 4 people. We had diverse experience with the personnel, from great to just average depending who was on duty. The breakfast was good and cheap for value (8€). Initially I had thought hotel rate a big high for this category, but compared with similar hotels in the area for this period (end June), it was in fact competitive. Overall I would recommend this hotel, except for disabled people(no elevator).

We stayed in Hotel Star in September and were hugely impressed. The staff are excellent and exceptionally helpful. There is a huge array of leaflets giving details on attractions and public transport, as well as free parasols and beach towels for your use during your stay. I would definitely stay here again.

Star Hôtel is offering a great value for staying in Nice. I loved this hotel during my stay in August 2012 and would highly recommend it to anybody. Located within 10 min walking distance from the beach, next to the shopping mall and supermarket (to buy any necessities), yet in a quiet neighborhood. Moderate price per room. Rooms, bathrooms are very clean. Spacious underground parking lot just 10 euro per day. Free beach towels and umbrellas - extremely helpful. Free Wi-Fi. Professional, welcoming stuff who are trying to accomodate your wishes and help in every way possible.

The hotel has very very very very small rooms. They cannot call them rooms...in a double bed room the bed occupies 80% of the total space. Bath small too but ok. No lift, so going up to the upper level is difficult if you have heavy luggage. the surrounding is ok, full of restaurant and you're near to the main street and shops. The stay was not so good even for the disgusting smell of paint (headache for me). Good notes: position is ok and Victoria (staff) is a superb french girl!

Positive: Nice and welcoming personnel. Hotel is located close to the tram stop. It is about 15 min walk to the beach or old Nice. There is a supermarket nearby. Negative: Room had specific unpleasant smell. AC was anemic and we actually found AC switched off when we returned to the hotel in the afternoon even though it was about 32C outside. I would rather pay bit more and get a better place.

This hotel is perfect as an inexpensive base for exploring Nice and the beautiful French Riviera. The location is perfect, because it is more or less half-way between the train station and the bus station. It is also very near the main avenue of Jean Medicin, the Place Messina, and the English Promenade. If you go the "back route" to the bus station, it is 10 minutes by foot. The manager is extremely helpful and friendly, and competently answers any questions or queries you might have. My room was small - no room for entertaining or even swinging the proverbial cut - and the bathroom had one of those showers that uses the floor as its drainage point. The room was furnished with cheap wallpaper and the door added to the rather dormitory feel, but it had satellite TV, air conditioning and a safe. In any case, it was just what I wanted - a base in the centre of Nice at a competitive price - and I considered the helpful manager an added bonus.

Star Hotel is in a great location and a nice 10 min walk from train station and 10-15 min walk to city centre and beach. The room was very small but clean with small TV up high and a clean bathroom. The bed took up much of the room however the cupboard came in use and our 2 large suitcases were placed in a corner. Phillipe and Alfredo were running the front desk and are absolutely SUPERB. They were friendly and happy. They gave us information of where to go, eat, etc. They also assisted us with our booking in Paris - making calls, etc. We defintely recommend this hotel. Well done boys. These Aussies love you both.....Don't forget to sign the guest book when you leave. It is testament to why people loved their stay at Star Hotel.

we spent 2 nites in this hotel in AUG. We booked a quad room which is not very spacious but comfortable enough for the stay. It's in a very good location, midway between the train station and the beach, both within walking distance. It's in a quiet side street and is very closed to a mini-supermarket. The owner is very friendly and there is a PC for free internet at the lobby. The continental breakfast is EUR6 with very fresh baguette and croissant. You can go to MacDonald at similar price but you won't get unlimited coffee. Recommended for budget travellers

Hotel Star has an excellent location, 7 mins walk to Place Massena, 2 mins walk to Monoprix Supermarket and Nice Etoile Shopping Mall, 10 mins walk to SNCF Train Station and 20 mins walk to Gare Routiere Bus Station. First of all, it's all about location! It's pretty safe, the hotel provides the access code after 22h30 to enter the hotel. The hotel also provides beach towels where the beach is only some 10 mins walk away. I had booked a single room through their website first and when they did not have the single, they gave me a double room and did NOT charge me a double which was a great sign of professionalism. My room (31) was located on the 3rd floor, was very quiet, the aircon was individually operated and did really cool off the room. The room was very clean and bathroom amenities were all new. There was a shower door which I liked and they provided shower gel too. The only disadvantage would be the lack of an elevator. I travel light anyway,so it was not a great deal for me. The receptionists, Alfredo and Johann were quite helpful. They are multilingual too. I skipped the breakfast (6 EUR) which is a mediocre one. You can find feasts for 6 EUR out on the narrow streets of Nice. I strongly recommend this hotel to singles and young couples which have no grumps! Happy travels!

We stayed in Star Hotel for three nights. Good hotel, professional reception staff, who advised us on restaurants and also made the breakfast. Stayed on the third floor, no lift available, but we're fit enough ;-) And the room made up for the climb: it was a room at the corner with a balcony, probably larger than most other rooms on that floor. Room was spacious enough. Bathroom looked new. Air con was working like it should. The free wireless internet often had some connection problems, but moving the laptop closer to the door improved it, so it might be the location of the room. Also it's ad-based: you have to look at an ad every 30 mins. A computer with free internet is also available in the reception area, though I didn't try that. There were beach towels, mats and some other beach related stuff available to borrow for free from the hotel, which is a nice touch (beach towels/mats are necessary on the Nice's pebbly beaches). When arriving, at first glance I didn't recognise the hotel as a hotel, because of the funny curtains. There were no croissant available for breakfast, but that might also have to do with the time we had breakfast (which is available as late as 11am!). Breakfast not included in the price by the way. A tip for breakfast eating out: Boulangerie La Niçoise, Rue Gubernatis, near the corner with Rue Pastorelli. The hotel is located 10-15 mins from the beach, and 10 mins from the train station, 1-2 mins from the main shopping street, and has a Monoprix (supermarket/dept store) and some restaurant almost around the corner.

We had our concerns about this hotel based on some of the reviews we read. However, in our 10 weeks of traveling through 6 different countries we found this hotel to be one of our best experiences. Contrary to some of the other reviews we found the host of the hotel to be very friendly and accommodating. Our room was large and had a beautiful little balcony and a fantastic, hot shower. The colors were bright and cheery. The location is also great, right near some lovely restaurants and only a 7-minute walk to the Old Town and oceanfront. We would definitely come back!

I chose this hotel, mainly for the reviews it had received. Had looked at many others but this ticked all the 'boxes'. I was not disappointed, had emailed before I went to ask for room no. 33 as it had a balcony(only about 4 available), and Phillipe the owner provided us we that room!It is a 2 star hotel but a very good one, Phillipe could not have been more friendly and helpful. Perfect location for discovering Nice and walking distance to both train and bus station.Close to main shopping street(clothes and supermarket).Had breakfast each day at 6 euros, criossant and bread, tea, coffee, juice, cereal. If thats what you want perfect.Only draw back there is no lift(we were at the top on the third floor 3 flights of stairs to climb). General decoration was in need of updating. With all said and done, if you are looking for a good value for money 2 star hotel in Nice, I don't think you will find any better.Enjoy if you go.

We chose Star Hotel because it provided the lowest price but got the highest rating on Venere. We're so glad that we chose it. 10-15 minutes to the station and another 15 minutes through the main street to the beach by walk. There are two supermarkets and one shopping mall in 1-minute walking distance. Given the conveience, the surrounding of the hotel is very quiet. The hotel is clean, neat, comfortable and lovely decorated. We slept quite well every night. All the staffs we met were so nice. Whatever question or help we asked for, they tried everything to answer or solve. They were even more patient than we were. I'd say it's much better than the 'professional' friendliness in the big hotel. This was a wonderful stay. I'll definitely stay at the same place if I have a chance to visit Nice again.

Clean room, but small. Nice window view to little local street. Good AC. Nice bathroom, with shower/tub & amenities & 115V US socket. No free breakfast (eu$6), but it looked okay with several breads, jams, some cereal, coffees & teas. There is also a large Monoprix supermarket with a bakery, fresh meals, and more just 1 block away. The Star had a great location. It was a block and a half off a main drag with lots of access to public transportation. There was also a grocery store and a mall a block away. On the downside, they have no lift so if you have heavy bags...good luck. It would be wonderful to sleep with the windows open but the streets are so noisy you need to keep them shut. So summer might be a problem. We went in September and it got a little warm but not too bad. We tried the a/c but it didn't work.

The people were not very helpful and certainly got upset if you needed assistance with televisions etc. first night there the air conditioning went off and so did the electricity. the following night the electricity kept going off. Excellent value hotel just off the main street and within luggage-struggling distance of the railway station and Rue Jean Medicin [the main tram route]. Also within easy walking distance of the main shops, the old town and, of course, the beach. Not too far from the bus station either. Rooms are clean and of modest size, with good en-suite, and the air con works well. All ok for the price and their use, after all you don't live there, it's just a place to sleep off the efforts of the day. Breakfast was good, continental style. Staff always very helpful and obliging, and multi-ligual : the perfect hosts, in fact. They will lend beach umbrellas etc - who else would do that ? Highly recommended. Whilst you are in Nice, use the public transport - it is so cheap, and also very comfortable: 1 euro per trip, whether one or twenty stops. We went to Grasse for 2 euros , there and back, and that's a 75 minute trip each way!

We are a couple who went to Nice to relax and to have some romantic days in the city. The hotel was perfect size, the staff was very friendly and had alot of information and recomendations about what to do/see and how to do it. The location was only a block away from a big shopping centre in the main shopping street. Only 10 minutes walk from the old city, or two stops on the "tram". No up or down hills, all flat terrain from the hotell to the beach. Would absolutely recommend the hotel, and will probably go back there again some day :-)

We have been fully satisfied with rooms and service provided, hotel is quiet tiny, but if you are looking for a base, where you can come in the evening, take a shower and right after nice dinner in the town, it is a place to stay. Reception is excellent, helpful, providing all info related to town, restaurants, thank you Philippe

We flew into Nice from Paris Orly and took the shuttle bus to a stop not far from Hotel Star. We later learned that we could have easily got off the bus at the train station and walked to the hotel, but the stop we exited on was even closer to the hotel (so we saved our feet and ourselves from the heat!). Nice was absolutely beautiful. The weather was fantastic and we once again found ourselves steps away from a Monoprix (grocery store). When we arrived at the Hotel Phillipe greeted us. He was quite a hilarious guy and proved to be full of energy no matter what time of day we saw him. The hotel was small, but still roomy. Free Internet is provided and it seemed there were quite a few international travelers that had returned to the hotel for another visit. This was our first time in Nice and at Hotel Star. We likely would return, but ensure we had a room that did NOT overlook the road. This was one of the most noisy hotels we stayed at during our three week trip throughout France and the Czech Republic. It seemed there was activity on the street every night. My wife and I found ourselves stuck awake late at night and awoken early in the morning. That was the ONLY thing wrong with the hotel. It was minutes away from the beach/boardwalk and close to everything.

The location is fine. If you prefer a quiet room, ask for one to the back. The owner is very nice, the other employee was unfriendly and forgot to give us the code to enter the hotel at night.

I have booked hotel via Venere for more than 6 times and this is the most satisfied one. It is a very very clean though not very big room. Everything is well organised. I like the home feeling. The 6 Euro breakfast is nice. The young man runs the hotel is with professional sense of service and have good sense of humor.

The Star was a pleasant surprise for a budget hotel! The location worked very well and there were many necessities close by (such as Monoprix!) Philippe and Alfredo treat their customers like royalty! I would definitely stay there again!

Wonderful property to stay at. I strongly recommend it to others. Although it is a small property, people are very curteous ( Speacially Alfredo at the front desk)and it is a very good value for money at Nice.

Had a great stay here. Pretty good value for the room. The room was tidy and well appointed, not overly large but big enough. The staff on reception are superb, especially if you appreciate a little humour. I would also recommend the breakfast there. 6 euro and plenty to eat, plus just being able to sit around listening to the staff's banter and laid-back jazz/lounge music that is playing.

Staff was terrific, very accommodating, friendly and responsive. Rooms were small, but very clean and the location was terrific - 2 blocks off the main shopping street, and tons of restaurants and shopping within easy walking distance. Also walking distance to beach and old town.

It was a very nice hotel that is owner run. The staff was very friendly and as non-french speakers, it was very comfortable. The breakfast was a good value and it was near to all that we wanted to do and see (5 min walk to old town). In all I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone as a great budget hotel.

The hotel is conveniently located with a walkable distance to the Promenade Des Anglais. Rooms are generally fine although pretty small. Having to carry luggages up to the third floor of the hotel was a real tough job.

Hotel is perfectly located-one minute walk to Av.Jean Medecine wich is the main street which leads you to Railway station in one way and to Old city, Promenade and Bus station in the other way. Everything is in walking distance of about 10-15min, and you walk in busy and safe area even at night. Staff is more than great. I was there for 5 nights, first time in Riviera so my aim was to be OUT of the room - visiting Nice and suroundings. I didn't look for any luxury hotel and my staying in Star hotel was perfect.

The location couldn't be better! It's conveniently located between the major train and bus hubs and all the tourist attractions. There seems to be no sound proofing though. However, for the price you can't beat this well-kept place with friendly staff. I'd try to ask for a room on the inside next time -- the street side is noisy.

We came from Houston Texas and had the best time at Star Hotel. Alfredo and Phillipe made us feel like family. The breakfast was delicious and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It even had wash cloths in the bathrooms- not common in Europe I guess. We would go back to Nice just to visit that hotel. A fabulous experience.

Philipe the owner speaks very good English and couldn't have been more helpful. He and his partner made our stay a very positive experience. The breakfast was excellent and the room cheerfully painted in bright primary colors. We were able to get free internet access for our computer which was a plus. The convenience to transportation, shopping and restaurants was great.

I was very happy with this hotel. The staff were very welcoming. There was a computer in the lobby with free internet service which was nice. The rooms were small, but not uncomfortably so. Typical European hotel. We were traveling around France, so all we were really looking for was a clean, secure, comfortable hotel to stay in and this definitely met that. The price was good and staff were extremely helpful. Highly recommend and I would definitely stay there again.

Although this is just a two star hotel, the excellent service of the staff could make it a three star hotel. The staff was very friendly and offered multiple time every service they could provide. The rooms were clean but rather noisy. As 'just a hotel' this isn't a very special hotel but the kindness of the staff is heartwarming and when we visit Nice again, we will definitely choose this hotel again. And the free internet pc is also a nice feature. :-)

Hotel is located in excellent place if you want to be in the walking distance from all the major tourist objects. The staff was very friendly and had recomended us very good restaurant(L'Ovale). We also got maps and a lot of information. The room was small and the breakfast simple but what could one expect for such a small price? The only inconvenience was the extreme noise at the night time, due to the visitors of plenty of restaurants, surrounding hotel, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. But in general, this doesn't matter. If I'll be in Nice again I'll chose this hotel.

Our three-night stay in the Star Hotel was a truly pleasant experience. The Hotel is ideally located between the main train station and the old town of Nice - both within 10 min walking distance. There is a choice of restaurants right next to the hotel. Our room was clean, spacious, and despite having two windows facing the street, very quiet. The bed was king-sized, and the bathroom had a tub. We had free access to the internet, were able to browse a whole library of travel literature of the region, and enjoyed a very nice breakfast for a reasonable price of 6 Euros per person. Staff was very friendly and always prepared to help. We would definitely stay again!

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights and we would definitely come back here. The welcome was great and the recommended restaurants very nice. The room was on the third floor so that kept us 'on our feet' but we were rewarded with a corner room with everything in it we needed: excellent lights over the bed, good beds, hangers in the wardrobe, a table and two chairs (no light over those), television, good heating system, windows that when shut kept the noise out, a good size bathroom with everything we needed and an excellent shower and .... everything very clean. The hotel is positioned not far from Avenu Jean Medecin and was surrounded with excellent bars and restaurants.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at the Hotel Star in November 2007. The two men at the front desk were so cheerful and helpful and welcoming. They allowed us to park directly in front of the hotel, and we had a large corner room on the 1st floor above the street. Originally we thought noise would be a problem, but the windows were thick glass and we also closed the shutters. Breakfast is not anything special, and they charge 6 euros each... instead go to the Monoprix just up the street and get your own croissants! The Promenade d'Anglais is about a 20 minute walk, as is the train station. We took an easy day trip to Monaco, it was fun! :)

Good basic accommodation in very good location 10 mins from beach, old Nice, bus and train stations. Decent breakfast for the price. Rooms at front suffer from street noise and, as the air conditioning goes off after 30 September, you have to choose between noise and fresh air!

Staff shared lots of useful information on what to see in the area and how to get around, places to eat, etc. We had a very enjoyable stay here. The hotel location is quite convenient, about 10 minutes walk from the train station and easy walking distance to the bus terminal if you want to travel to other areas. There are also some nice restaurants along the same street and a supermarket nearby.

The Hotel Star was definitely not plush but what it lacked in looks it made up for in comfort and convenience. However, the most overriding plus was the service, it was absolutely superb. We have stayed in loads of 4 and 5 star hotels and we have never had so much helpful unbelievable service. We had numerous fantastic recommendations for where to eat, what to see and how to get there. I cannot recommend that enough and if the street is a little noisy, well you can always close the doors and put the aircon on!
