The hotel is located in a great spot, close to shops and restaurants. To get to the hotel you have to walk through a hallway, up the stairs, through a very scary and dirty courtyard and up more stairs. The place smells like stale smoke and lilies. Although the rooms were clean, you could tell the building is very old. If you are travelling with luggage - beware this hotel has lots of stairs.

The location is absolutely fantastic, in the heart of the city, right next to the Old Town. Parking can be a problem as the only public parking closeby is very expensive (around 28€ for 24 hours). The hotel is nice and clean, the rooms are small but OK, the only inconvenience is the bathroom does not have full doors, therefore is not particularly good for privacy. The staff (Helena) is wonderful, and the breakfast is out of this world, very good and plentiful. I would definitely recommend this hotel although it is a bit expensive for its category, but again in a perfect place.

Hotel is right in the center. Very helpful staff. The room had air conditioning, hair drier, flat tv.. everything you have on a 3 star hotel. Staff gave us a extra towel and a beach rug for us to use. Dont mind the 1 star, it should have at least 2 stars.

I had a wonderful time at this hotel! It was directly in the heart of Nice. We had shopping, entertainment, the bus and restaurants just seconds away! The beach was a 5-8 minute walk away from the hotel- very convenient! The hotel was very comfortable and clean - there was enough room for two luggage's, space to hang our clothing, a table and two chairs, remote controlled AC, one large french window to let in lots of light. The bathroom had room to keep our toiletries and a large mirror for getting ready. The staff was very welcoming and friendly- they always gave us great advice for our daily activities - where to eat, where to catch the bus, etc. They also gave us beach towels and mats when we told them we were spending the day at the beach which was very kind! Felt like home - would recommend to family and friends!

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Rex in Nice. The hotel is located in the middle of Nice, Rue Masséna, a pedestrian street in the main shopping area of Nice. It's close to the train station, to the "Promenade des Anglais" or to the "Vieux Nice" and it's typical restaurants. Despite its excellent location, the rooms, in the back of the court are very quiet. The 2 owners are really friendly, helpfull and offer a lot of services: free WIFI, you can leave your luggage at the hotel and take a shower eaven before check-in/after check-out! Rooms are very clean. Do not hesitate to have your breakfeast at the hotel, on the terrasse, it is very good and fresh for only 6,5 EUR

The staff is very nice. They want to do all their possibilities to help us. But the price is a too high for the quality of the hotel, especially the rooms are not quiet (we heard people speaking in the corridor, it seems like they were in our room).

Excellent location, close to transport, beach, shopping. Hotel personnel very helpful with ready answers to all queries about Nice. Large kitchen with table and chairs. Very good hotel for its star rating, with hairdryer and flat screen tv showing BBC and CNN news. Very easy to travel by tram from rail station to hotel. We also travelled by bus from stop near hotel to Menton and stopped off in Monte Carlo on the way back - a very scenic journey along the coast, costing one euro per journey.

This hotel is situated in a backyard on first flor over a nice little bridge, and the surrounding area are typical Frence, You will feel yourself at home away from home in the center of Nice, close to everything, the old town and the sea. We call it "The little Castle" and stayed at Hotel Rex 2 times at the same vacation first 1 night and then 3 nights, and where very satisfied.

The location is quit good, need to city center, sea side and also restaurants street. Only missing is good window view. But if you don't care about watching scene from your window you try this hotle.

The managers/owners were really lovely and helpful. The hotel is small and beautifully decorated, clean and well maintained. Only disadvantages were the the two staircases (for 50+) and the instructions for opening the top door using the keypad. The door needed a sharp push. Polite NZers would never dream of doing that!!. They came from their home to help us out and didn't treat us like complete fools. It is a great location.

Nice is expensive and the Rex is one of the cheapest (for its location) places around. It is good value compared to other places. Our room was clean but no aircon was a shame. There was a fan but that wasn't much help. The best thing about this hotel is its location, and that is worth no aircon for the money. Oh, and the decor is quite charming if you like olde worlde (not for people who have more modern taste though).

From the Nice Airport, I took a 4E bus at the owner's suggestion, which took me to a few blocks from the hotel. Located on the Place Massena (pedestrian zone), this is a wonderful hotel. You have to have a door code in the off-hours which are at night and during the owners' lunch hour, but access is safe and simple. One warning to anyone out of shape or disabled is that there are several flights of stairs to get up to the hotel itself. The room I stayed in was beautifully decorated with a window overlooking a flower filled inner courtyard. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is available, though I did not try it because it is located among many pleasant cafes. It was especially nice because it is an active area even late at night, which made me feel safe going home alone. I would definitely stay here again as the price was good, the room was ideal and the location was very convenient to everything I wanted to see.

A very nice hotel in a quiet backyard right on the pedestrian street and just 5min from Old Nice/beach and 15min from train station by foot. Okay, so the walls are not very thick but what can you do about a pair of loudmouthed American girls who like to chat till very late... Very small bathroom but it was there, it was clean and the shower was excellent.

The entrance was somewhat difficult to navigate and the stairs were very difficult with luggage to lift. The noises from the hall at night were somewhat disruptive. However, a very central, affordable location.

Room is fresh and tastefully decorated. Shower room is new and very clean. The rooms are well set back from the street and overlook an internal courtyard so generally quiet. Unfortunately we had noisy people in the room above (not part of the hotel). They did quieten down eventually so we did manage to sleep. Location very good for walking around cafes and restaurents and close to the old town, bus station etc.

Hotel Rex was a nice hotel with great charm. It wasn't super fancy but excellent for location and price. The room was clean and comfortable. The actual location is not on the main street but perfect because it's quiet. The staff were very nice although it was a tiny bit difficult communicating. I'd definitely recommend!

The hotel is situated right off the main Place Massena, ideal for both the new town and the Vieille Ville. There are loads of places to eat along the rue massena, and because it's a pedestrian area, there is no traffic to worry about. The hotel is set back off the main street which makes it quiet at night, but it is so central you have the city at your feet, only minutes to the train or bus station too. The rooms are basic but very comfortable, traditional French charm, no breakfast included, but there are so many places to eat out that I actually preferred this. I liked it so much that I am returning later in the year with my partner and my son.

This was a great little hotel right in the heart of town, short walk to old town, near the main shopping streets. Not at all difficult to find if you take the address and follow the signs through the building and courtyard. Newly renovated room and bathroom, much more spacious than most in French cities at this price. Very helpful staff on reception. I'd stay here again.

A great and simple hotel located in the heart of the city. Everything is within 2-3 minutes walk. An ideal hotel is you are looking for a centrally located base and a basic yet well presented room in an affordable price range.

Since I managed to get a very cheap 'last minute deal' and I was there in business for a meeting next day 2 minutes walk from the hotel - perfect. If I’d however been on vacation - while very close to a main station and with the tram stop just around the corner going straight in to the city centre it still probably wouldn't be the place I'd prefer to stay. For me it was almost too central i.e. rather noisy, no green areas and not that many restaurants or so close by.

Hotel Rex is very well situated and reasonably priced as Nice is generally overpriced. Staff very pleasant, I had a double room for one which was very basic and in need of re decoration. This would not have been big enough for two sharing longer than a couple of nights. But was perfect for my stay. On arrival I found it difficult to locate Rue Messana as did some of the locals, however once found it was easy to find again and again! I would stay here again, due to the location , price and hassle free stay I experienced and would recommend it to those who wish to visit Nice on a budget, and are independent travellers as there is no reception after 8PM and some of the staff are not multi lingual. As the rooms are set back from the main road, you are able to experience a good night’s sleep as opposed to many of the hotels which can do little to block out the noise outside. You are also given your own keys and have the freedom to come and go as you please. I enjoyed my stay, I was pleased with the experience. A must if you are looking for "No frills accommodation"

Peter and the staff provided an excellent service, nothing was too much trouble. The location of the hotel was ideal. Peter provided good advice about local restaurants and public transport. All staff very friendly. One real concern was not being aware of the 2 flights of stairs required to reach reception. Some linen did appear a little worn. The building work occurring nearby during the day was a little noisy on occasions.

Exceptional value considering its location at the epicenter of shopping and nitelife in Nice. The front door is literally 100 feet from the tram stop. It is only a 5 min tram ride to the bus station (Gare Routier) where you can catch a bus to Monoco. Staff were very helpful and friendly, if not completely fluent in English. Rooms had old-world charm (which means don't expect AC or 200 cable channels). But if you are there for AC or cable, you might as well stay home anyway.

We booked a twin room and actually ended up with a better, triple room when we stayed here. Although the door to the hotel is on a busy main pedestrian area, the room itself was set back and quiet. Although there was no air conditioning, there was a fan, so it was not too hot. Everywhere was clean and the staff were friendly. They allowed us to leave our things behind the desk on our last day and pick them up in the afternoon. Even though it was a small hotel, they also made showers and toilets availble to us and had some useful literature on France. It was not a problem for us, as we only stayed a couple of nights, but others may not appreciate that the wardrobe did not open. The location was absolutely fantastic, as you could walk out the hotel and be in the middle of town. It was a very short walk to Vieux Nice and only 5 minutes to get to the beach.

The hotel was just perfect. Set right on a main promenade, with tons to do. You are also close by to all major attractions of Nice. The hotel though is set back between buildings so you do not have the noise that comes from the streets. Great staff and overly welcoming. Cutest room I saw on my whole trip.

Hotel Rex is extremely good value for money, particularly when compared to many other overpriced hotels in Nice. Our room was basic but decorated very prettily and tastefully and was extremely clean - our main priority. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The only bonus would have been Air conditioning as it was very hot - however, the staff were very kind and put a large fan in our room to help. Great value and good location in the city. Thanks!

Peter was a fantastic host and easily the most helpful of all our hosts during our Europe holiday. Rooms were clean, adequate and comfortable. Bathroom was tiny but you learn to deal with that. Located on a pedestrain street next to the main square and shopping arcade. 4min walk to beach. Great selection of dining on rue Massena. Make the effort to speak some basic French and it will get you far :)

Inexpensive hotel was fine for a one night stay but we would not likely return as it is below our usual standard. Hotel was not well marked on the street although the location was excellent. The overall quality of the stay was not great as we were woken during the night by loud knocking by another hotel guest locked out of the hotel. The bathroom was very small and did not have a proper door. Staff were unfamiliar with banking machines at check-out. Overall staff were friendly. Not good access for physically challenged.

We found the Rex easily, but somehow we missed knowing that we had to go through an apartment foyer and then outside to another walk. The signs pointing the way made it easy to find, however. The steps up 2 flights were steep, but doable. If you have lots of luggage, or heavy luggage, it will be a challenge. The hotel is small, but very neat and the staff spoke English and were quite helpful. Our room was small, but completely adequate. It was clean, smelled good and the bed was comfortable. The Rex is located right directly off Massaena Place and is a perfect location to get anywhere in Nice. The walk-down to the paid parking garage is located practically right outside the door. Wonderful location for a fun time. We only stayed one night, but Rue Massaena and the Place have so many activities going on and lots of locations for good food.

The Rex, once you've found it, is really close to the major sights in Nice and a short walk to the bus station and the old town- lots of great places to eat from breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien near the opera house to dinner at Le Merenda in rue Raoul Bosio. The Rex has simple but really nice rooms, tiny ensuites and is run by a friendly couple. To find it you have to find an ordinary door in Rue Massena (there's a sign high on the wall) which is a busy pedestrianised shopping street. It's at the Place Massena end. Inside it looks like the lobby to shabby flate. You walk towards the back of the building over a bridge across an internal courtyard, then steep stairs to another ordinary door. This is the Rex. Two floors with about a dozen rooms, no public rooms and no breakfast- that's what cafes are for. Would I go back? Definitely. The location can't be beatend for the price and as a single female traveller I felt totally comfortable there. I went during Carnival in February and although it was all happening very close by, there was no noise.
