Small rooms, smell of floor wax and a bathroom too small. After checking out we leave the bags for half day and at the return we find them opened; mine was even forced and the zipper was broken. Absolutely not recommended to all. Staff worthy of criminal charges.

My wife and I stayed in a "superior" room on the top floor of the hotel. Our room faced a side street and a lycee, so was nice and quiet. Room furnishing was elegant but storage was limited; the only mirror was in the bathroom. All the staff were helpful and friendly; breakfast was good and the roof terrace very pleasant. We had a very good stay and would return when in Nice.

On our trip to St. Tropez we spent just 1 night in Nice and we liked this hotel because of its central position. It takes only a few minutes to get to the old town. The rooms are very small but they have air condition and are very clean. The hotel has a very nice terrace where breakfast is served. We paid Eur 30 for 1 night in a park garage nearby which is really expensive. But that's the Côte d'Azur! We are a German couple of 58 and 60 years and stayed with our daughters of 23 and 26 years

This is the second year we have stayed at the Hotel Lepante. We returned as we found the hotel very good value. The rooms are spotless, the breakfast very plesant on the roof terrace and the hotel location excellent. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is very frendly and the staff are most obliging. I hope to stay there again next year.

Lovely hotel with newly decorated rooms and gorgeous bathroom. Cool terrace for afternoon siesta, quiet lecture etc. I especially loved the ancient marble staircase, soft red carpets, and gorgeous wrought iron guardrail. Centrally located, 10 min. walk to the Vieux Nice and famous Promenade des Anglais.

We stayed in a small double room at Hotel Lépante, we chose it because it was cheaper, and it was perfectly adequate for our requirements. We were especially pleased to see a computer in the lobby, where free internet was available to guests; we used this every day to communicate with home. The location was great, there was a mini market a couple of doors away and plenty of cafes in the street opposite the hotel. It was only a short walk to shopping and many more restaurants and the area in the old town felt very safe even though it wasn't particularly upmarket. The hotel is only a few streets from the bus station in one direction, and the train station was further away in the other direction - we walked to the train station with our bags on our last day in Nice without any problems. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is wanting to keep costs down but still have a reasonably nice place to stay - the decor was quite tasteful and the breakfast room looked very pleasant, although the proximity to so many cafes meant we didn't actually use the hotel facilities in that respect. The front desk staff were great, and spoke excellent English. We had some added complications because we were expecting house keys to be couriered to us at the hotel, and that was all handled professionally by the staff on duty. This was a fabulous start to our sojourn in the south of France, I would choose this hotel again if we return to Nice.

Shortcomings at the hotel - we had room 334. Window shutter, electrically operated, did not work but there was no notice in the room stating this, just small piece of brown tape over the switch. Air conditioning unit did not work - it was very hot when we were there. Bulb handlamp not working, proprietor told but did not bother to replace it during our stay. Hot and cold water supply to shower connected up wrong way round - plumbed in incorrectly. Basin plug pushrod did not function.

We were two adults and two teenagers staying a couple of days in Nice. The teenagers definitely enjoyed the free WIFI... And we others enjoyed the nearness to many sights in the city and shopping areas. The room was spacious although there were four of us sharing the room. The staff was kind and helpful. We would absolutely return to this hotel.

We went with our car and there was some problems with the parking. The hotel has a garage but there are only two places and we had to find a parking around the hotel. There was very difficult because Nice is a very crowded city. Near the hotel is a supermarket where you can find fresh fruits. The hotel is renovated but we had ants in our room (maybe is because the building is old). In rest everything was fine.Nice is a very lovely city.

We didn't require much in terms of hotel stay which was only one night and we didn't plan to have our breakfast in-house. The only thing missing was an extra pillow. Its is above average for a 2-star hotel.

My reservation was concerning a large twin bed room for 109€ per night. It was confirmed. I got a small one which I paid 99€. First problem: the reservation I made was not respected. Second problem: if I remember correctly, when I made that reservation, the proposed price for a small twin was 79€, far from the 99 I paid. If this is right, I propose to withdraw that hotel from your list. This is the first time I had this kind of problem. Thanks.

The area from the train station to the hotel is seedy and dirty. We took a longer route to avoid a certain neighborhood that we felt was precarious. Nevertheless, the hotel itself was excellent. The rooms were modest and very clean. The bathrooms were brand new. We found an Indian restaurant, Shalamar, situated right in front of the hotel, two minutes away. The food was not as hot and spicy as I like (probably they are catering to the French palate) but the atmosphere was very Indian and you can eat a decent meal for two for 35,00-40,00 Euros. The conteniental buffet breakfast at the hotel costs 8,00 Euros per person but, for the convenience, it is worth it. You save time and the crossiants are wonderful. The man who runs the hotel is friendly and helpful with a smile. You will need instructions on how to use the safe. The wireless Wi-Fi worked perfectly. The windows had screens. Sheets and towels were clean.

A small yet clean and well situated hotel. The little double is indeed very small however if you are staying for a couple of nights it is more than adequate. The bathroom was spotless but the airconditioning did not work. This was not an issue at this time of year. Service at breakfast could have been better as there appeared to be only one member of staff on. Overall I would return for a short stay without hesitation.

We stayed in a "little double" and it was very small. Also there is no lift, so beware of carrying baggage up the stairs. Overall it was very nice. Breakfast was nice but not included in the room rate.

The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. the rooms were well equipped; the bathroom was great - a great big 'spa' shaped tub to soak away the stresses of travel. It was about a 20 minute amble to the 'old town' and about 15 minutes to the railway staion, so fairly central, if you don't mind a walk. One of Nice's main shopping streets was only a few minutes walk from which you could turn left towards the beach or right towards the station.

As a late booking, we were pleased with our week's stay at Hotel Lepante. This simple lodging with an unfussy charm and relaxed atmosphere made an excellent base for our exploring Nice and beyond. The Manager was quietly professional and his father charming and informative. We would happily consider another stay.

The staff bent over backwards to accommodate us even after we found an apartment, allowing us to use their wireless Internet connection and offering to let us borrow a mattress AFTER we checked out. I would HIGHLY encourage anyone who is considering staying here to do so. You'll be glad you did!

I had to seek out a member of staff each morning in order to take breakfast. On each morning no bowles were provided for the cereals. In the room there was a safe box; this was not bolted down so was of no real use and I could not get the locking mechanism to work anyway.

Our biggest complaint was that there was NO lift -- and our rooms were on the top floor. When we arrived there was no one around who could help us with our luggage. Fortunately, the 4th person in our party was not meeting us until the next town, she never could have dealt with those steps much less carrying the baggage!

The room would reasonably be described as 'basic' - it was small and functional with no charachter except for the french windows opening onto the street (a mixed blessing but it wasn't really noisy). But most cheaper hotels never offer you more than a room, a bed a tv and a shower anyway so that's no drawback. However, the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Unlike so many budget chains there is actually something to like about the place. It's also well located - short walk to the railway station and a slightly longer but pleasant and maneagable walk to the old town and promenades.
