Hotel De Berne - Nice

The city of Nice seems expensive. I would have expected a nicer room for the price. The location is quite good, especially for just one night and travelling by train. It was not quiet but that is likely associated with an old building very close to the train station and in a busy area. The paper thin door of the room, which had me concerned about leaving anything in my room, may also have contributed to the excessive noise. I was not impressed at all by the hole in the wall beside the toilet (room 209) which was 'fixed' by stuffing it with a towel. It is really too much to bring someone in to fix that? Anybody could fix that with drywall or plaster, especially with the location. Poor quality workmanship would be irrelevant. For some reason many of the cheap hotels I have stayed in have had this same issue,a big hole in one of the walls in the bathroom. Showering was also interesting. It was one of those hand held shower heads. It seemed like it should be possible to fix it to the wall on a bracket but I could not see a way of securing it such that even the slightest force would not knock it down. Off season (October through March) price is 50 Euros (single) which I would have commented very positively upon. Probably a much better time of year to go to Nice unless one wants to hit the beach. Prices go up during the Monaco Gran Prix.
