Very good location. The building looks scary and needs rennovation. Inside is not that bad, though. Room: fair. You shouls always remind/ask staff for clean towels otherwise they might forget. There is NO canal in the bath?! I was shocked. Only in the shower, plus a barely useful curtain, which does not stop water to run out and make a slippy lake into the common bath space. Anyway, if you don't intend to stay in the room more than necessary, i.e. to sleep there, it's OK for a 7-days stay.

This is one of the best 2 star hotels I have found. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and always polite. The room was clean, comfortable and, most important of all during a very hot week in June, the air-conditioning worked fine and was very quiet. The location is excellent: just 5 minutes walk from the station, 10 to the town centre and 5 more to the old town and beach. Forget the nonsense about the area near the station not being safe, I saw absolutely no evidence of this. Nice is a wonderful place to visit and an ideal centre from which to visit this wonderful region of France.

Clean, tidy, good position, BUT!!! very tired, hugh crack in vanity basin only hand towels available for all uses. broken springs in bottom of the mattress. good position to train station and sight seeing. would not recommend until up grade was done

After the sightseeing and coming back to the hotel, we are going to have shower, and it didn't work properly. We were said the rooms were full and there's nothing they could do. We spent the night showerless. They offered the breakfast for free of charge. We chose to leave Nice earlier to the next destination where we expect the proper bathroom, and paid in full. I cannot recommend this hotel if you except the proper room, I'm afraid.

This hotel is convenient in that it is close to the station but the area around the station is pretty grim and didn't make me feel overly safe as a single female traveller. The room was clean but old and had water stains on the walls, and on the bathroom ceiling. I'm glad I was only here for 2 days.

The hotel is located near to the train station, so it's easy to get there. It has an elevator and air condition. I spent one night there and had no warm water the day I arrived. Therefore I got the breakfast for free and I had warm water on the next day. A disadvantage are the thin walls, so that you hear your neighbours... All in all I found it a bit expensive.

The location is a block from the train station, which is really nice - about half way between sites and the beach. The room was perfectly sufficient, and the shower worked well. The wireless is in the lobby, so it works for the first floor or two, but not outside of that. The shower towel was the size of a hand towel. Also the staff didn't really know the best way to get to sites, so I recommend you walk to the Tourist Information office at the train station an ask there, as the directions I got were generally wrong. Those were my only complaints. Great value.

Good for an overnight stay in Nice, though first impressions of the surrounding area, which is near the railway station can feel a little unsafe, though in fact it wasn't. Staff very welcoming and looked after our luggage for us the next day until we were ready to leqve Nice.

We used this hotel for a one night stay while 'escaping the volcano' as it is convenient for the main station. It was very good value for money, a good sized room, clean and generaally worked well. (Shower not brilliant). Staff friendly. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that.

Typical budget hotel; slightly shabby and amateurish but then what would you expect with the low price? Staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and had basic amenities. Overall a very nice stay, no problems with the hotel itself, however some of the guests were very noisy in the middle of the night - staff intervention would have been welcome. If you are looking for a somewhere cheap and cheerful to stay, then Amaryllis is at least as good as any of the others. I would gladly stay again if in Nice on my own; however if you are travelling with small children or looking for a romantic getaway, this is probably not the best option.

I really liked Amaryllis. It was quite comfortable to stay in. A basic but nice room, I liked interior colors (so French) and windows. The shower was ok. Good conditioning system. Though my windows faced the noisy street it was pleasant to watch the life in the town. When you close the windows the room looks to be soundproof. The staff was friendly and helpful. They helped me with facilities and information and tips as to the best plage (beach). The hotel location is more or less good. It is close to the central train station, main streets and beaches. It took me about 20 min to get the beach. I felt quite at home in this hotel. It is small but cosy.

We had a one-night stay at this hotel within walking distance of the train station. We found the hotel convenient, quiet and in an area populated with many interesting restaurants. The hotel was more than adequate for our needs (in transit) and we are sure that a longer stay would be comfortable (it has air conditioning). The price/quality balance was bang on!

Positives? It was close to the train station and right across the street from a police sub-station. It was also not far from the main street and public transportation. Staff was friendly and helpful. Negatives? The room itself was very run-down. Signs posted forbidding food in the rooms made me wonder if the 'night visitors' would be joining me in bed.(They didn't.) Hallway lighting was minimal. I would not recommend this hotel, unless you are truly looking for the economy path and will not be spending much time in your room.

The hotel is placed near one of the main streets in the city, about 20 minutes walk from the beach. The hotel itself isn't the newest, what You can feel in the room. Most of the stuff doesn't speak english. The price was a couple of Euros bigger, than it was shown during the booking process. It's impossible to find a parking slot nearby hotel, You have to leave Your car in a parking place about 5 minutes walk from the hotel, which will cost You about 15 Euros per day. No free internet access, no fridge or safe in the room. The bathroom is separated from the room by rolling door that doesn't even close 100 percently, which I wouldn't expect from a room for 68 Euros. I would recommend You to check other hotels before You book this one.

Overall, this was more or less what I expected. I was just looking for a cheap one-nighter as close as possible to the station so this was ideal for me. In a bit more detail, the bed wasn't too good, the room felt a bit grimy and there never seemed to be anyone on the reception desk when I wanted to take/leave my key! But apart from those minor points, really no gripes and quite content with my overnight stay.

This is a 2 star hotel but looks and feels more like a 1 star. That being said, if you are looking just for a place to spend the night, it's fine but if you are looking to spend time in the hotel, it's too poor and depressing. The towels in the bathroom are clean but so old that you don't want to touch them.

We wanted to like this hotel since the staff was nice, but it was too depressing. All surfaces of the room were covered with shabby stucco, acoustic tile or some other strange surfacing. It was not that it wasn't clean - it mostly was. It was just kinda seedy feeling. Next time we will try somewhere else. Location and staff are great, but no thank you.

I travelled to Nice from Italy by train which had taken 10 hours and within minutes of my arrival was at the hotel. Being a single traveller i was use to getting very small rooms so it was a great surprise to be given a double room with plenty of space. The hotel is within short walking distance to the main street with a mail shopping mall along the way. The sites of Nice are also along this route. The staff were friendly, courteous and helful with any inquiries. Breakfast was available in a small garden setting if required. Most enjoyable.

It was inexpensive (60EUR), and the location wasn't the best, but it was close (5-10min) to the train station for walking - though I recommend finding it during the day since it's a little tricky. It's about a 15min walk mostly uninteresting to the waterfront.

My daughter and I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Good bakery across the street, so don't buy their breakfast. A number of good restaurants well priced in the immediate area. Area was somewhat run down with major construction going on, but near to shopping and the train station. View from the room was somewhat questionable and photos of rear patio were not true to what was there. Room was small as expected, and bathroom could have been updated. Overall, good price for what we needed.

Extremely good relationship between price/quality. Has already booked a room for my next visit to Nice in september 2006. Recommends! The hotel is actually closer to the station that it seems on the map. Convenient. The room was absolutely fine. Only gripe is that the evening porter was not that friendly, and that he insisted I return by midnight, which was OK, but seems a bit harsh for a town with nightlife. Otherwise a rather better standard than I would have expected for the price.

A very good value for money hotel and convenient for the station. Breakfast quite good for France, not included in price but I expected this. The only bad thing was when I arrived on a cold November evening the room was like a refrigerator because the maid had left the window open. The AC unit could be used to warm it up but did not do so very quickly. Just along the street towards the station on the same side as the hotel is a very good and cheap restaurant

Too far from the see. The hotel syaff was not very welcoming - they gave me the key but the room was not ready. I had to go down to tell them that the room was not ready and I was made to wait in the lobby. Then I was told the room was ready, I went up again with my heavy bags but it was not ready, so I was told to go down again and wait there. Which I refused and after that I was shown into the room where I at least could sit down and wait for them to finish preparing the room. It made me angry as they should not have sent me up twice with my heavy luggage when the room was not ready.

This hotel is in a great location, being only 2 blocks from the train station and one block from a main street so it was easy to get our bearings for finding our way to the old city and the ocean. There are lots of reasonably priced restaurants in the area. The staff was extremely helpful and fluent in English. The only negative aspect was that the area did not seem particularly safe for a woman walking after dark. It should also be noted that there are several signs stating that food is not allowed in the rooms.

The hotel was not bad at all. The bedrooms were descent enough for a 2 star hotel and the bathrooms were fairly spacious. The breakfast was very good (it costs extra, but is worth it) compared to what other hotels offered on our trip. My only problem with the hotel was it's location. Although it was very handy to be close to the train station (we ended up using the bus depot "Gare Routiere" more often though), the neighborhood wasn't the best of areas. I think that I would've rather paid extra and walked a little further to be closer to the beach and to a better neighborhood. Also at the time, there was a lot of construction going on on Ave Jean Medecin right near the hotel, which made it a little more difficult to walk down towards the beach.

We stayed here for 3 days with friends last Nov. Almost all things were OK but some things disappointed us. Fisrt one was SHOWER problem. Our room shower din't work well at all. Of course we informed the person at the desk at night and he made his efforts to help us but finally nothing happened to the shower. So we had to have a lot of difficulty in using it. A cold shower in cold winter season!! Second one was that my friend bed sheet had a tiny spot of blood. Generally we were satisfied with our stay at this hotel because of its reasonable price and convinent location.

Hotel was very convenient, close to everything, nothing extra but clean and reasonable for a short stay. No mini bar (we like to use it for a fridge to store cold water etc.

Amaryllis is a clean hotel with above average service and accomodations. It is well located close to the railroad station and surrounded by eating establishments. Convenient for those without a car. Mattress was a little lopsided but still comfortable.

A very acceptable and good value hotel in a convenient location for the train and the city. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone not seeking 4 stars.

Excellent value for money. Location is outstanding. Staff provided good local recommendation and advice for activities around Nice and along the Cote d'Azur. A very pleasant stay overall. Only drawback is the thin walls which carries all the noise when the room next door was being cleaned.

The Hotel was within walking distance of the station. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. There was a lift to get upstairs even if it was small. Our room was large with a good bathroom and breakfast was a good continental one. It was definitely good value for the price.
