The Library Hotel brings a unique concept to the world of hospitality in New York City and is a property that no book lover should ever miss. As the name suggests, the hotel is indeed organized just like a library with 10 floors arranged according to the ten classifications of knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System (the same used in most libraries over the world).

You will therefore find entire floors of rooms dedicated to a specific subject and containing volumes of books related to the specific topic. The floor themes include social sciences, literature, languages, history, math & science, general knowledge, technology, philosophy, the arts and religion.
The hotel offers many spaces to unwind with a book or enjoy the many Library Hotel Collection signature amenities that are included in the rate. The Reading Room is home to hundreds of books and offers a selection of refreshments 24 hours a day, including a bountiful continental breakfast buffet and an evening wine and cheese reception every evening. Guests can also enjoy the rooftop Writer’s Den and Poetry Garden and terrace which by night becomes Bookmarks Lounge, a sophisticated and intimate bar popular with local New Yorkers.

Free wireless Internet access is available, while health conscious guests can enjoy free access at the nearby New York Sports Club, a full service gym facility.

The first floor Madison & Vine Restaurant is the hotel's American Bistro and international Wine Bar, serving lunch and dinner in a casually elegant setting.

Local taxes (14.76% Total Tax + USD3.50 occupancy tax per room per night) are not included in the price.

Great stay at The Library. Following a room upset (i had specifically asked for a lower floor as lift claustrophobic and was offered a 7th floor room on arrival) the staff apologised and moved us to the third floor into a Petite Room for the first night then to the Deluxe Room we had booked the following day. They were genuinely apologetic and did everything to make it up to us and make our stay enjoyable. Petite Room rather small, probably ok for a night or two, the Deluxe worked well. Quite noisy but I overcame that with earplugs! Breakfast is very good, self serve. Excellent staff on hand to help and make porridge and toast. Afternoon drinks and nibbles a real treat. We were two couples and spent the early evening enjoying drinks, nibbles and chats. I would definitely recommend this lovely Boutique Hotel and would stay there again when visiting New York.

We stayed here in mid January 2014 for 12 nights. We are experienced travellers and spend a month in Europe and 2 weeks in Thailand almost every year. We would describe ourselves as discerning - when it comes to choosing Hotels. We tend to gravitate to smaller properties with more personalised service. It was cold and snowy outside. We could not be more-complimentary of this property. Room, facilities, location, staff were all exemplary. The free - breakfast, all day coffee and wine and cheese in the evening exceeded our expectations and added to the value and warmth as well as providing a great opportunity to meet other travellers. We created some new friends! If we had any complaint - it would be the street noise [We were on 9th Floor Madison Ave] One of us is a real light sleeper and more conscious of noise! But with that observed, we would have to stress that it wouldn't stop us recommending, or staying at the Library Hotel again. We loved it!

My teenage daughter and I stayed at The Library Hotel for a week over the New Year's holiday. We had an excellent stay overall and most aspects more than fulfilled our expectations like for example the hospitality of the staff, the little extras like a dvd player in room plus an extensive choice of dvd's from dvd library, the Reading Room with complimentary snacks and teas and coffees, Wine and cheeses in the evening, etc all excellent and most welcome. Location is absolutely perfect..bang on the shopping streets of 5th Avenue and Madison and yet out of the hustle and bustle of Time square which can be slightly tacky. There were however a couple of disappointing things mainly the New year's Eve Party on the Top Floor bar, which promised a hot and cold buffet, canapés, desserts etc.. the staff was attentive and drinks were not a problem but the food was appalling...cold slabs of chicken breast, congealed pasta with a plain (and dry)tomato sauce and grilled but basically raw vegetables, one pastry as a canapé, two tiny cream cakes for dessert and that was all, not cheap for $125/person. To be perfectly fair, drinks were free-flowing which is not a small thing for the price considering that alcohol is so expensive in the US so for younger people out to party it was probably perfect, but for us it was rather disappointing. The other comment is also regarding food and maybe i could suggest a little change in the choice of cheeses and crudités offered in the evening? We were there for a week and every day it was exactly the same down to the position of the plates on the counter..a little change every now and again? Having said that, we had a wonderful stay at The Library and these little things can be overlooked compared to the other positive aspects during our week there...we shall definitely be staying there again in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay, both the location and the quality and atmosphere of the hotel, particularly in comparison with the ten or so other NYC hotels we have stayed in. The "Reading Room" facilities are excellent and more than compensate for a small, though well-equipped room with a nice street view. Staff were most helpful, particularly in the Reading Room and on check-out.

This is truly a gem of a hotel. Excellent service, rooms, breakfast and the wine and cheese in the evenings welcome bonus after a busy day. I was in NY for a conference and this hotel with its reading room, poetry garden and library theme is perfect for anyone wanting to read, study or relax and feels like an annexe of the NY Public Library only a short walk away. This is a brilliant hotel all round, couldn't recommend it highly enough and will make it my choice next time I'm in NY.I really looked forward to coming'home' each day. The staff are super firendly, professional and welcoming.

One of the finest properties I have ever stayed. Great location, competent and knowledgable service, especially the concierge, and wonderful amenities. The rooftop bar was exceptional in every way. Quiet with personalized service. Hard to find anywhere, but in NY in December? Just outstanding!

We greatly appreciated just about everything about this hotel during our three nights stay there in July! Courteous and welcoming staff, cosy rooms with books on art (we got a room on The Arts floor), spacious bathroom with the amenities one expects in a hotel like this. Great Midtown location! Neat library-like breakfast room with a view, well assorted breakfast menu, a selection of free newspapers, TimeOut New York etc, and even with a grand piano in one corner! And don't miss out the free cheese and wine in the evenings! In short: a place to come back to!

Excellent hotel. We were given two upgrades on our room, upon arrival. Very spacious room given, with very modern clean bathroom. Very comfortable bed, good quality linen. Breakfast self service, with very good choice, staff couldn't do enough for you.The reading room was open all day with free refreshments, cookies and fresh fruit. The wine and cheese tasting in the evening was a lovely touch. The only downside to the hotel,is the noise from the traffic on Madison Ave, depending on where your bedroom is located. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again

Stayed in a King-size bed room and it was very nice but sometimes noisy from both the street as well from hotel doors slamming. The front desk was great and all there recommendations was top class! The generosity that the hotel gives is very rarely to find in hotels nowadays. One of the better hotels in NYC including the high-end ones.

Having visited New York numerous times, and stayed at a variety of hotels over the years, this was our second stay at The Library Hotel, and we found it as memorable as the first. It is in an ideal location regardless of whether you are a first time or frequent visitor to New York. The size of this hotel ensures you always feel like a guest rather than a room number. The food provided at breakfast & early evening,is beautifully presented and of an excellent quality. The staff who are on hand to replenish supplies, toast bagels or open another bottle of wine are especially helpful and accomodating. All in all, this is a thoughly well run establishment which we feel is aimed at a sophisticated traveller, who can see beyond the lure of the so called "large/famous/formal/grand/" tourist hotels. This is an ideal hotel for couples, but would also be suitable for single women who could enjoy the evening ambience without feeling intimidated.

We stayed here for 3 days on the way home from LA. Very warm welcome after long flight and complimentary early check in (about 8 am). The room was very clean, but little bit small. As I see its NY-special)) Library staff were very helpful and friendly, Reception staff provided us information about city, restaurants etc. And all the recommendations were exactly we needed. We loved the design ideas - every floor is named as the library section, every room has the subject. We stayed in Money room - all books in the room were about money. Library hotel is peaceful and relaxing place in the very heart of Manhattan.

I stayed on the 6th floor. You can open the windows completely, quite uncommon for the U.S. All rooms are individually equipped with books for a dedicated topic (e.g. architecture, medicine etc.). As this hotel is located in the city centre, it is not quiet, but this is obvious if you stay in Manhattan. My room was very clean, as it was cleaned 2x a day. In general, I can recommend the hotel and will certainly come back personally.

The location is great. The staff helpful and friendly. Rooms are cleaned properly. The heating system is a bit off, but that's ok. Breakfast is good and it is so convenient that I can get a cup of tea any time. Room service food was good. I would definitely stay there again if I go back to NYC.

I spent four nights in the Library Hotel with my 18 year-old daughter just before Christmas. I managed to reduce the cost of the accomodation by one third after the original booking (in August) by keeping an eye on their website and phoning whenever the price went down. The hotel confirmed each reduction by email. The room (a Queen deluxe) was small, more a parisian size, but adequate and comfortable. The library theme was fun even if we did not have any time for reading and the atmosphere at the hotel was friendly, informal and efficient - perfect; so different from other US hotels which can be very formulaic. We particularly liked the coffee, juice and biscuits that were available at all times in the communal area and the wine and nibbles in the evening. The noise in our bedroom from the street was loud but this was Madison Avenue!

We loved staying at the Library Hotel. We felt it was expensive but worth it, especially for location (Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Station were all within easy walking distance i.e. possible to walk comfortably in heels! Empire State Building and Central Park were only about 15 mins walk away also) Very relaxed ambience to hotel and helpful concierges. Loved New York and loved the Library!

This is a great oasis and it felt wonderful to arrive and have all services such as wine, cheese, fruit , coffee provided. It was lovely not to continually be spending money once we arrived so we could begin to relax. It was a very well located hotel and impeccably clean. I would definitely stay here again and very much enjoyed my trip. Staff were very friendly and helpful with a real emphasis on customer service.

My husband and I stayed at the Library on a week long visit to celebrate a milestone birthday. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and reasonably spacious. Breakfast was fabulous (if a little busy at times). Having access to the Reading Room throughout the day for tea/coffee/danishes and in the evening for wine/cheese was a real bonus. The hotel very kindly provided complimentary sparkling wine in our room for my husband's birthday. The hotel location is extremely convenient - close to the sights in midtown and one block from subway stations at Grand Central Station and the New York Public Library. We would definitely choose this hotel on any subsequent visit to New York.

When you’re looking for a hotel in New York, you’re rather spoilt for choice. The range can be mind bogglingly confusing and first-time or just occasional visitors might feel just a trifle overwhelmed. Well here’s a tip. If you are looking for something slightly different, and are prepared to dig a little bit deeper into you pockets to treat yourself and your family, consider booking a couple of nights at the Library hotel.

Having been to New York a number of times, The Library is by far the best hotel we have stayed in. It was chosen on the basis of the photos & description of its facilities on the website. On arrival these lived up to & throughout our 5 night stay, exceeded our expectations. It's rooms are extremely well appointed & comfortable, the staff helpful without being overbearing, and the quality & quantity of the food provided at breakfast - through to cheese & wine in the evening -superb. An excellent choice for any visitors wanting a central location in Manhattan.

An absolutely fantastic hotel, superb staff, very welcoming & helpful (particularly Peter at front desk) rooms are tight for space - but it is a boutique hotel so more than adequate. Very peaceful atmosphere around the hotel, you wouldn't think you were on Madison Avenue!! I would recommend the hotel to anyone.

Well positioned hotel. Good continental breakfast, all day coffee, tea and pastries in lounge. Free wine and cheese each evening in lounge. Rooms a little on the small side and less imaginitive than I expected. Nice staff. Additional taxes are always a drag at check-out time in the States. Good value for New York, would recommend it.
