Great location in NYC. Air conditioning was the real issue - quite "clunky" and noisy. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Ate at Angelos a couple of doors down from Hotel - fantastic pizza!!! Also a pricier meal at Uncle Jacks Steakhouse - birthday celebration - expensive but great service and food excellent.

Pro: Excellent location, quit rooms, very good price / quality, friendly people Con: only 2 elevators-long waiting time, no free wifi. We had a room for 3 and there was only one washing table without any storage place

Excellent location and price except for WIFI internet access. Cell phones could not be used for internet access from inside the room. When we figured out how to turned off wifi on our iphones then data would work. I used my laptop to purchase wifi access in the hotel however, that is only for that one device. Smart phones still would not work. Hotel staff would tell us to go online to register.

Nice hotel on a splendid location in Manhattan, 100 mtrs. from Carnegie Hall and two blocks from Central Park. Rooms are large for NY and clean. Rooms at the front are fairly noisy, so I would recommend trying to get a room at the back. There is a great fresh market across the street for groceries. Would go there again!

The Salisbury is a great hotel in a great location. Rooms are spacious. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only complaint I have is that the wifi fee is per device, which seems a bit unreasonable for the price. One fee for all the devices or better yet, free wifi would be an improvement.

The rooms were good and the beds even better. Our rooms had a mini-kitchen with microwave oven and refrigerator - very convenient. Both rooms had two generously sized closets. The breakfast buffet was excellent and costs only 9 USD. All staff were very nice and helpful. Salisbury is excellently located with Central Park just two blocks away and two subway stations (N-Q-R and F lines) only a 100 meters from the hotel entrance. Across the street is e.g. Starbucks, Duane Reed and Morton Williams where you can buy food. Lots of restaurants nearby. Before we booked, we made a lot of comparisons with other hotels and found Salisbury to be the best for our needs. When we go back to NYC, we have no reason to look for an alternative.

We stayed there early Sept 2012.The Salisbury is a well located hotel, rooms are spacious and they initiated a continental breakfast system which is both practical and good value. The hotel is old but well maintained, in depth renovation must have been decades ago, from there noisy airco and the furniture and lighting fixtures are antiquated. It also does not come cheap, but of course this is New York.

If you are looking for an affordable hotel in New York this would be a good choice. HOWEVER if you are looking for anything extra special this should not be your choice. I searched many different options available before choosing the Salisbury for my vacation. For price and location, this was perfect, the rooms were clean and spacious close to many different attractions and for the most part the staff was friendly. With that being said, I don’t think I will stay there again as the hotel does need some work. Carpets are old and showing their age, one of the elevators did not stop on our floor. Or should I say it would stop but the doors would not open properly, I stopped using the one elevator as I did not feel comfortable, did not want to waste my vacation stuck in a old, small elevator. Lots of construction outside as well, we had the windows closed but you would not have know it. The air-conditioning is just a small unit in the window which makes all the noise from outside come in. We didn’t plan on sleeping much in New York BUT waking up to the sound of jack hammers and such, sounding like there were working right beside your ear was not pleasant. I think I will pay the extra and opt for a more updated hotel my next visit to New York!!

I rated the noise level high because construction started at 7 am! Otherwise, we were very pleased with accommodations. Staff exceptionally friendly & pleasant. We will certainly stay at the Salisbury again & will recommend it. Wonderful location!

This was a first time visit to New York. I was careful about my choice of accommodation and read many reveiws of the Hotel Salisbury. Even so the hotel exceeded my expectations and I would happily recommend it to anyone who wants to be in the centre of the city.

This was my fourth stay at the Salisbury. As a one time New Yorker I love to return periodically to this incredible city. The Salisbury fits my needs. It is by far the best location for theater, walking and subways. The staff is helpful and pleasant. It is clean, comfortable great beds, hot water and a continental breakfast worth its price. One day they will no doubt renovate it and it will be out of my price range - that would be a shame. JG

I always enjoy my stays here. I do wish the Salisbury would offer free internet access. By this point it should be a basic accommodation service at a hotel. At least I do appreciate that the Salisbury sells internet access in small segments. But charging for internet feels increasingly nickle-dimey these days, the more so since cell phone connectivity is rather weak within the building.

More reasonable costs for great location and I love historical /oldness of this hotel. Attending a convention in the Hilton and was in walking distance. Enoughrestaurants in the area. Like the fact that it is near Carnegie Hall too.

Staff was kind enough to give us the room we wanted for our 7 night stay and that made me like the hotel imediately. Breakfast and/or wifi should be included in rate as in many hotels abroad. I would gladly stay here again if the same special rate is available at another time and if I get a room with a pantry, again. The hotel did meet my standards with the room type and the cleanliness. The cleaning personnel was excellent at keeping the room inmaculate and I really appreciated the detail that she/he noticed we were coffee lovers and never was stingy at maintaining our coffee basket with extra creamer and coffee bags! Hot water never lacked during the Winter season.

Of course, great location for midtown, and easy access to anywhere you want to go by subway, bus or on foot. We took advantage of special offer and ended up with a 1 bedroom suite--two huge rooms, kitchenette alcove, three closets. Small, simple bath, but functional. We were also at the back of the hotel, and even so we could hear, faintly, the very noisy construction across the street. Staff was very helpful getting in and out. Breakfast buffet is satisfactory, but would be nicer with cups, saucers and plates instead of Styrofoam. For anyone looking for nice, clean, spacious place to stay and willing to find glamor and excitement somewhere else, Salisbury is great.
