Hotel 31 is situated in a good location, near the Empire. Good interaction with the staff

This is a hotel for tourists on a budget. It is somewhere clean and safe to sleep. You won't be spending any other time at the hotel! The staff were friendly and co-operative (they found my fairly expensive watch and kept it in lost property). It has a fairly good location, a few blocks away from the Empire State building and a 10 min walk from Grand Central Station. Overall an adequate hotel for the cost and location.

Excellent position in Manhattan. Room very very small, but clean and good for stay only during the night.

The room without bathroom is very small. So we switched to a more comfortable room with bathroom.

The Hotel 31 is close to most transportation so it's easy to get around the city. The room was decent size and clean for a 1 night stay. We had a room with a shared bathroom and I would recommend to anyone not to get a room right next to the bathroom. All night we hear other guests using the bathroom. Can you believe people using the shower at midnight and as early as 4am!

The hotel had a perfect location. Close to the subway and also walking distance to a lot of places. The room was small but clean and had everything we needed. The people at the frontdesk was friendly and helpfull. I can really recommened the hotel.

Rooms are really small and noisy, the shared bathroom was almost clean. For the price we paid, we expected more than that. I understand we slept in Manhattan, but the services offered are really the essential. Near to the Metro stop, you can reach every part of NY in a while, that's the only good thing. I spent my holiday also in the west coast (San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles,...), but this was the worst hotel where I've slept regarding the relathionship between price/quality. Thank you.

Don't you dare! Despite is in a good situation, it's awful! The room is very little, it smells bad, the bed is unconfortable and little,, the air conditioned is the oldest i've seen and the air runs towards your head when you are in the bed in a very noisy way. We also found a friend in the little bathroom (a big cockroach). The second day we went to the room a 4 pm to have a little rest and it wasn't cleaned up! And the staff is not very kind. If you don't mind where you sleep but you want something in the middle of Manhattan, that's your hotel! (And it's very very expensive for what they offer..)

Ottimo punto di riferimento per un breve periodo di vacanza nella grande mela; la posizione è ideale per girare la città anche a piedi. Notevole il ristorante di sushi accanto!

Our first time in New York! This hotel offers a excellent central Manhattan location for a budget rate! There is a subwaystation 2 blocks from the hotel, but we found all of Manhattan within walking distance as well. Roms are nice, we had a room with a private bath wich was clean. We had a look at the shared facilities and they seemed clean too. Area around the hotel seemed very safe and there are some nice resturants, a shop and a drycleaner just outside the hotel. I would really recommend this hotel, wich provides an excellent base for your exploration of The Big Apple!!

This hotel was great value for money considering the location. From our room we could see The Empire State building but I did request this when booking. However, my request was listened to which was greatly appreciated as the trip was a birthday present for my husband who had never been to NYC before. The rooms don't come with en-suite bathrooms but luckily the bathroom was right next to our room and was always clean, there was another one just across the hall too. The rooms are small but all hotel rooms in NYC are small and for the price you really can't complain. It was really useful having a sink in the room too and it didn't feel cramped even though we had a couple of big bags. The bed was comfortable and there was a TV and desk as well as air-con. I would definitly recommend this hotel as it's so close to all the major tourist haunts and the subway is just round the corner. The staff are really friendly and helpful too and if you have a later flight time than the check out you can leave your bags with them until you have to leave. I can also recommend the cafe on the corner called Guy & Gallard we ate breakfast in there 3 mornings out of 4, they do a good filling breakfast. Opposite that is Chipotle which is a fast food chain (comparable to Nandos in the UK) and they make fantastic burittos. We look forward to our next trip to NYC and Hotel 31.

For a Manhattan location, the value is outstanding. It's small, very small, but I didn't go to New York City to spend time in the hotel. The hotel was nice, clean and a friendly staff. I will definately go back.

Ancien hôtel, déco vieillot, mais chambres et sdb très propres. Deux sdb par étage, pour environ 12 chambres, mais étaient toujours libres durant mon séjour. Essuis, savons, shampooing fournis. Très bonne situation. Broadway, Times square, 5ème avenue, Empire State Building... à courte distance, facilement accessibles à pied.

Very good stay. Our (very) small room was clean and quiet - we could almost leave the window opened. Price looks high for a very small room with a shared bathroom but there is one bath for 2 rooms so it is manageable and for this price in midtown, you cannot expert much more.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel! It is very good situated. Empire State Building is very close to Hotel 31 (I think it just took us 5-10 min. to walk there). 5th Avenue is only 3 min. away. Time Square about 15-20 min. to walk. Central Station about 10 min. walking time. We did feel comfortable. Bath and toilette were just next to our room. Everything quite clean. Rooms very small but when you are in N.Y. you will not spend too many time in your room. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our trip and the time at Hotel 31 very much. Very good price-performance ratio!!! Hint: Don't forget that you have to pay additional taxes (I think its about 8 percent). A salesman told me that the taxes have to be paid for everything except clothes (clothes up to an amount of USD 110 are tax-free). Hope this description helps you a little bit :)! Best regards Markus

Small, old-fashioned room. Clean, but very cold during night. The hotel staff helped us order a taxi from the hotel to Newark airport at a fixed price, but when we should pay the driver wanted more money. The car was not marked as a taxi and that felt a bit strange....

Little nice hotel in the middle of manhattan. The rooms are not very big but for this price and position in manhattan new york is it realy good. The bathroom was in a seperate room and was clean which wasn't a problem. As we look out of the window we could see the top of the empire state building. 2 minutes to the next metro station was very good. So i would say nice location and good position.

The hotel is centrally located, near almost all great attractions of New York. The relationship between price/quality is excellent. Although I took a room with shared bath, the bathroom was always clean and vacancy. If you are looking for a cheap hotel in New York and do not matter in share bath, I would recommend this hotel.

I was hesitant for the price as to what I would be getting, but honestly! FANTASTIC value! Yes, the rooms are small, but are you going to NYC to stay in your room? Sure the decor in the rooms is dated, but again, if you want a fancy room, pay for it at a 4 star!, I spent my money having fun, not on frills in a hotel room. I look forward to returning to Hotel 31 or their sister property Hotel 17. Staff very friendly and helpful, say hi to Ziggy! He's a cool character!

We had a twin with a shared bath on the 7th floor for 2 nights. The room was small but newly decorated, in a rather unique style - think 90's dado rails and florals. The shared bathroom was newly fitted and clean and thankfully there was a lift - small but working. As NY is so expensive, this hotel at $150 for a twin (no breakfast) was good value. The location was excellent and our room had a view of the empire state buidling which can't be bad! Great for tourists young and old but not sure I would recommend it for families or anyone wanting more than a comfy bed for the night as there are no facilities.

The location of the hotel is excellent: just a few blocks from main attractions. The hotel was clean with a shared bathroom, but with no closet. Good relationship quality/price. We would recommend this hotel for a cheap stay in NY. For an excellent breakfast go to Murray Hill Diner, just around the corner.

We had a fine stay at Hotel 31. All we really needed was a place to sleep and shower and the hotel was perfect for that. The room was very small... Actually it was just a bed a tv and a sink and you could just shimmy around the bed thats it. View to a wall aswell. But if you need a cheap place to stay and don't care that bath and toilet is in the hall (It was nicely kept and always clean) it's fine and it's positioned great, right in the middle of Manhattan like 200 meters from the Empire State Building.

I would happily stay at Hotel 31 again but would not stay in a room that size with 3 other adults. I'm sure its fine for young people but as a mature women I need more space. We had great breakfasts at Guy & Gallard on the corner.

I'd definately recommend Hotel 31 as it is reasonably priced and quite conveniently located. Be aware that when you book "Double" on Venere, it means one double bed. The price for two single beds is higher -- we were lucky they had such a room available, as my daughter and I don't sleep well in a double bed.

Much better quality than expected for the price. Our room was much quieter than we thought it would be as the hotel is in the middle of New York but this is what made it easy to get anywhere.

Stayed in a double room w/ shared bathroom on the third floor for 6 nights. There are helpful staff on reception & the place has a slightly old-fashioned feel to it which I liked. They also looked after our luggage for us when we checked out which was a definite bonus. Our room was small with no view, but high-ceilinged which helped to make it feel less cramped&it had very good a/c. The decor could've done with a revamp & there were no pictures on the walls, but on the plus side it had a small basin&mirror, basic furnishings ie desks w/ drawers, space for hanging jackets, etc. & a telly. There were two bathrooms on our floor & I'm happy to say they were always clean & rarely occupied when we wanted to use one during our stay. The best thing without a doubt was the superb location, on a quiet road just a few blocks away from the Empire State Building! All in all, a great budget hotel & a fantastic base to see the sights & smell the sounds of New York City....

First the pros. The location is fantastic. Many good, reasonably priced restaurants nearby. Lots of sights and great shopping within walking distance. The staff were friendly and allowed us to check in early and to leave our bags in the room after check out time. Now the cons. We had booked a quad but got a triple with rollaway bed. This left us with absolutely no room to move around the already very small room. There was no interesting view from our room 701 but the room was quiet. The bathroom had no towel racks and the toilet didn´t always work, which for four people was sometimes unpleasant. The beds and pillows, we thought, were just right. We didn´t find them too hard, which other reviewers complained about. All in all I would recommend this hotel for singles or couples, but don´t book a quad if you are a family or 2 couples. The rooms are just too small.

We (2 couples) booked 2 rooms in the same price range. both were very different in size (one was about 1/3 smaller). Showers didn't work very well, but overall hotel was very clean. furniture a bit dated, rooms a bit dark. new towels and sheets every day. ok for the price, but there are better places.

Nice cozy clean and confortable non smoking room, no view at all and small. Bad luck: they were under reconstruction so there was lots of noice through out the day and they've spoiled my credit card on the machine on the day of arrival. Public toilet was great and clean and not busy at all. Great location either for walking lovers and for subway lovers. Quite area but near more busy areas. They kept the luggage on checkout day. Loved it despite the no view, the noise and the credit card. Recomended.
