This is the most horrible hotel i have stayed in NYC. Imagine just arriving in New York (you haven't even had the time to figure out that you need a cell phone), the only phone in the lobby is broken, nothing works in this hotel by the way (no TV,AC is so noisy you forget about it, no telephone, etc.) and these people UNBELIEVABLE! were uncapable not only of letting you use their phone but even of dialing a taxi number or a local number for you! I have never seen something like it. The guy who works the morning shift, you can die, he doesn't care, he does his job and that's it. At least in the evening there are a couple of employees who care about the customer's concerns. Not to mention that almost everyone realises that the bathrooms are shared when it is too late, you have already booked. They say it is mentioned in the hotel listing. Apparently Nobody sees it. I stayed one night because couldn't do otherwise.

The rooms are just terrible, dark, the sink is 1 cm beside the bed. Douche is on the floor in a bathroom not renovated since 20 years. The rooms are kept in a brown colour, which makes it even more depressive. Elevator is not open for passengers, but by official posting only for freight transportation. The pictures from the homepage and the description are not congruent with the reality I experinced for 6 nights and booking 5 months in advance. I booked double bed and got first a bed of 1.10 cm, which they call "twin bed". The room is not that you stay longer than 20 min in it. In the evening (9 p.m.) it occurs that after ringing the door bellyou have to wait quite long until the porter opens. Alll together: a price of 120 Euros per night without breakfast seems cheap for New York but you dont get anything you will enjoy in Americana, with excption that the location is attractive.

When I first checked in, the room they gave me was not at all as pictured on the website for a room with a double bed. It was much smaller and the sink was right next to the head of the bed. There was not a dresser or even a chair. The TV did not work and the room was really hot. However, when I spoke to the man at the front desk, he immediately offered me another room, which was exactly as pictured on the website. That room turned out to be fine. I had a problem with the hair dryers--none of them seemed to work very well and there was no place close enough to the sink and mirror in the room to plug one in. I would recommend people bring their own travel hair dryer and an extension cord if you need to blow dry your hair. The rooms were clean as were the shared bathrooms. There were a few problems with the plumbing (ran out of hot water in one shower one morning; toilet not flushing another time) but other than that the shared bathroom worked out fine and I never had to wait to use a bathroom. The location is excellent. Easy walk to all sorts of attractions and easy access to a number of train stations. Loved being near Bryant Park. The staff was friendly, polite, and helpful. This hotel is a great value for the area and I would recommend it and would stay there again.

We were very happy with our room it was a corner room with two windows on the top floor, had a very powerful air conditioner. Very reasonable in price, compared to other NY hotels. Understandable there was 24h noise from the street, if you live 5 min walk from Time Sq and 2 min from Bryant Park, on the 6th ave cross road, there will be noise. But we slept well, because the beds and pillows were comfortable. The view was great, we could see nearly as far as the financial district. There were 5 bathrooms on our floor, and they were all very very clean. The other guests were nice and quiet and kept the bathrooms clean. Great location if you want to explore central Manhattan. Only drawback is no wifi, but the Pret a mange cafe under the hotel has wifi.

We got a really loud room, you would practically feel outside. Also the linens had tearing marks, shared bathroom not so clean. I will definitely get a better hotel next time I'm in NY.

Location is excellent. But pick this hotel if you are planning a back-packing tour. This hotel provides better safety than what would seem as a first impression of the hotel.
