The hotel is 5' walking from the railway and the metro station. It is also near Corso Umberto I and the but stop to go to the center. Like in all the railway station areas, you have to take care walking around in the evening but I didn't have any problem at all (and I was alone).

Hotel located 5 minutes walk from the main train station, Metro and bus station. The rooms are on the second and third floor of an old palace. People working there friendly. Surprising for Naples the area seems very quiet. Though I travel alone they gave me a double so the room was perfect...

I was impressed when the staff help me to take the luggage to the room. The elevator is not working so I need to walk up the stairway to the Reception floor. Although I'm staying for one night and a single traveller, they offer me a triple room. Bathroom is small but clean.

When I arrived there were hookers outside the hotel property. I woke in the morning to people having sex next door (the walls are extremely thin!). I also woke to find that I had several bites from bed bugs! 32 bites in all!

If you are looking for a quiet comfortable room, go elsewhere. Perhaps this hotel is just an example of "you get what you paid for" because the room was super cheap, so then was everything else (i.e. towels, faulty lights, etc.)! Some staff seemed very unfriendly, like the people in general in Naples, but in all fairness, some were nice too. A major plus for the hotel is that they let us store our luggage there safely the last day.

Highly recommend, very clean and for the price a good value. Very convenient to train station for us to do excursions to the Museum, Hurculaneum and Pompei. Clean, nice rooms, good quality windows close out the street sounds at night. Would like to make a comment on others who didn't like the neighborhood. It's near the train station people, what were you expecting? On that note, Napoli was a great place too (the people could teach us a lesson or two on how to drive) Trying to find L'Antica pizza shop one night (10 min walk), the reported epicenter of the history of pizza... we got lost. After walking a few back streets of working class, very busy and lively neiborhoods we never felt threatened or in danger. In fact we were never noticed at all.. it was like being invisible. Similar streets in many other US cities would have put us in real danger. BTW the way the pizza was delicious and cheap... get there before 8:30 pm or you will wait outside.

DON’T DO IT! We arrived at the hotel around 6pm to find a heavily occupied shady part of Napoli. The street curve outside the front door contained a 1.7 meter high pile of trash. My wife and I hesitantly unloaded the luggage from the hired car and cautiously proceeded to the hotel lobby only to find we did not have the correct change to pay to use the elevator. We were greeted at the front desk by a man dressed in torn blue jeans whose voice sounded like a character out of the “God Father” movie who would make us an “offer we could not refuse”. We found the room to be clean, but the towels were very shabby and the water in the shower and bathroom sink backed up and did not flow. During the stay I made a big mistake by looking outside of the back window in the hotel...the unspeakable horrors I saw! When I met my local Napoli friends the next day, they could not believe that we had chosen to stay in a hotel in that part of town. My wife did not have the 12 years of military training as myself and could not bear to stay in the hotel past 1 night. When we told the hotel front desk clerk we wanted to checkout early he was very upset and wanted to charge us for 2 nights stay. After a long discussion on the subject he finally decided to charge us only for the one night stay. However, after returning home and checking my credit card statement I found he had charge it for two nights stay against my authorization. SAVE YOURSELF! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

I arrived early in the morning and was greeted well and was able to leave my luggage at reception while the room was being prepared. The hotel is clean and basic and a good value for the price. The room was spacious and quiet. The staff at reception was helpful and welcoming. However, the neighborhood may be difficult for some people as it is near the train station which can feel dark at night and unkempt. I stayed on the main streets and had no problems. The hotel is also well located to the metro station at the main train station so that it is easy to get to various parts of the city from there.

As others have said, this is a gem of a hotel in a seedy neighborhood -- safe but noisy and rundown. Probably closest hotel to railway station -- except for construction outside station, would have been a short walk to reach. Once you learn the way, it's easy to reach terminal. A security buzzer lets you in the main building, and you need 5 cents (not 50) to operator the elevator, but once at Zara's floor it's an excellent hotel. Almost got overcharged on checkout, but no problem getting quoted rate once I spoke up; maybe a legit mistake but double check the price. One man seemed to be at the desk at all hours and he had a speaking problem, so that limited staff helpfulness, but no real problems. A good value for the money.

We stayed one night in Naples. Zara is not far from the train station - we walked. Neighborhood around train station not the best (just like any other city), but front desk attendant recommend inexpensive and tasty food across the street - great deal. The neighborhood is not vey good looking....and you get kinda scared when you look at the hotel from the outside...but when you get in, it´s a whole different impression! Because of the way addresses are presented in Napoli, it is a bit complicated to find the hotel which is in a walking distance from the train station. The building does not look clean and you should have a ,05 e in order to use the elevator to get to the second level.Once you have reached the reception desk you you feel more comfortable and safe. Everything is sparkling clean.

If you're using the train station then Zara is ideally located about 3 minutes walk away. The room itself was excellent - recently refurbished - and included aircon and a tv. The Hotel is located in the poor half of the city, the main tourist areas being about a 30 min walk away. If you're after the true Naples experience then that's not a bad thing, though if you want to be near the richer and more touristy area then find another hotel.

Hotel Zara is in a very dirty and sketchy part of Naples. It is conveniently near the train station but this is not the safest area to stay in. We were awoken many times during the night by a loud party on the first night and by a woman screaming on the second night. As for the interior of the room, it was very spacious but there was mould all over the ceiling in the washroom, the shower didn't drain properly, and the shower fixtures were rusted. I would recommend spending a little more and staying in a nicer place.

Il personale è gentile, ma non ho avuto necessità particolari e non posso ben giudicarlo. a reasonable 2*hotel within very easy reach of the train station. The room window did not seem too secure (although sceurity access to hotel itself was good) and the shower area wasn't brilliant but it did the job. There was also a problem with the electricity but this was rectified as soon as we reported it. The area, however was extremely seedy. We were only stopping over for the night before catching a ferry the following day and decided it was safest not to be out after dark. It was reasonable value for money but we wouldn't stay there again due to the area.

It was a bit misleading from the location of the dot on the map but it is an EXCELLENT location with respect to the train terminal! The staff was great. Was a bit surprised to see that the fee charged did not include breakfast (as did the other properties we used on the trip) and we were charged for internet access. do NOT use the internet there as it is on a slow machine with a slow connection speed. Excellent quality. Unfortunately like most Italian Hotels the heavy use of tiles on floors and walls means that noise carries. Mats or rugs on the floor in the public areas of the hotel would cut ambient noise enormously. Apart from that minor complaint teh hotel is fantastic value and so close to all the travel amenities and some excellent places to eat also.

The Zara was great. It is true that, as other comments indicate, the neighborhood around the Naples train station looks quite unsafe. I don't think it really is--but it looks like it is. Place was clean enough and close enough to everything we wanted. Price was higher than the facilities or accommodations can justify, although I think that is reflective of the city itself not just this hotel. There is a brilliant pizza place just around the corner with some of the best food we have eaten. big complaint was the shower which is a struggle to get into for a moderatly sized person and has the slowest drain ever so water gets to the lip of the shower.

Zara is a fine B&B that is convenient to the train station. However, you should be aware that the area around the train station is fairly seedy and unpleasant (the hotel is on the 2nd floor, so this was not a big issue for the facilities itself). Given the location and lack of a breakfast, it's probably an average value for the money. Location and exterior dirty, inside spotless. Windows well sealed against street noise. However throughout the first night the lady night manager chain smoked and coughed and the smoke seeped under the door and was most unpleasant. During the second night a man was on duty and no problem. WARNING Naples is a VERY dangerous to visit! I knew this but despite being very careful my camera was grabbed out of my hands and the strap slashed after a brief struggle with the Vespa rider. On several other occasions we were obviously scouted as targets. Apart from taking info from the large number of tourists who are robbed the police seem to do nothing.

I stayed at Zara for a short break last week and was generally pleased with my choice. The hotel was spotlessly clean, and my room quite spacious. The only minor complaint would be that I would have preferred a more substantial breakfast - it was only cakes and coffee. (But you can't have everything I suppose!) It is situated very conveniently - a few minutes walk from the rail station, and I know people complain about this area, but really, it's not that bad. I would certainly return - I reckon that overall, it's good value for money.

Reaching the hotel itself is a nightmare. Very bad surrounding and lots of kurds, albanians, turks and north african men standing in groups on the streets on the way to the hotel and staring at all the passerbys. Entrance is a large closed iron door with a bell to inform of your arrival. CCTV monitors all your movements. The reception is in second floor and lift has to be fed with coins to operate. We 6 people preferred to walk upstairs. The reception and room looks good but the two old ladies who manage doesnt know a bit of English. Had a hard time to get information. Tourist maps were all over. Breakfast in the morning is very very limited. Two of the rooms didnt have hot water and one of the room didnt have remote control for TV. Reported both problems but she cant help it. Few of the rooms were at first floor but they have to press the button to open the entrance after viewing us from CCTV. Very quiet rooms compared to the noise streets. Wouldnt recommend to any of my other friends in future.

We arrived a day earlier because of a change in plans. (Feb 13,2004) The Zara was able to offer us a slightly more expensive and spacious room for that one nigh, and we then took our cheaper but significantly smaller room. Very nice and helpful folks, very clean rooms and public areas, but there was some street repair work just outside the hotel that was making a lot of noise. I would recommend the Zara to the budget traveler who likes to be fairly close to a railway station. Elizabeth Hitz

Right in the centre of Naples with large, clean, well-furnished rooms. Our room was at the back of the hotel and quiet, but rooms at the front may be noisy. Though to be fair, this is a fact of life in Naples. Front rooms have a great view of the street to compensate. We were really impressed and enjoyed our stay. Very good value indeed. I'd definately book at the Zara again as we had very comfortable, central accommodation at a very good price.

Quality for money was not satisfactory due to the state of the property during rennovations - a reduced rate would have been appropriate. To access the shared bathroom you must go through reception which is off-putting.

Hotel is very near to central station on 2nd floor of o normal house, elevator costs 5 Cent, Hotel is being made up actually, so it is gonna get bigger and more comfortable. Employees were very friendly and helpful. Not too much noise from street but door bell is ringing through all the night and this can be heard in the rooms very well so you might wake up often, but this is subject to change when the new rooms and new reception are ready. Zara is good for people arriving on train or bus, only some meters from piazza Garibaldi, connections to airport are good as well, it is cheap and mainly clean, but not modern actually. We liked it.

Bad hotel in the (especially at night) sinister area of the Naples central railway-station. The youth hostel at Piedigrotta offers much better quality for less money.

I hope the bathroom will be completed by my next visit. It is in poor quality, but it was always cleaned and maintained well

Zara is a cheap and cheerful pension that is very close to Naples main railway station. It's ideal if you want a cheap room & don't need a breakfast in the morning. One thing to note, is that they do not take credit cards, so you'll need to pay when you arrive as the credit card details entered on the web site are just used as a deposit.

The room was not really clean, neither the bathroom, and there was only one bathroom and one shower for 10 rooms. The people welcome us really friendly and indicate us a lot of things, but they didn't speak neither english nor french.
