I decided to stay in this hotel for a weekend with my wife attracted by Mercure trademark. This was my first and probably last permanence in this Hotel. The exterior and services are very good and aligned with Mercure standards, unluckily the room was a nightmare. The room was really small for two people and without air conditioning we had to stay with the balcon open all the day unluckily under the balcon there was the railway with train noises every 5 minutes.

In an area that many feel is a little dodgy, this is a safe haven. You know what to expect from a Mecure hotel and this one delivers. I checked out other hotels in the area (when I had to stay an extra night and the Mecure was full) and found that the Mecure was easily the best value for money.

The best part of this hotel was the staff. The girls working at the desk were excellent, and Daniela was particularly helpful with storing our things. We stayed in a lot of hotels with excellent service, but Daniela was probably tops.

location of hotel, easy to find and handy for train Station and local buses. Public areas very good but disappointed that the Bar was not open during our stay and also snacks were not available, as the area is not a good place to venture out late on an evening and you must be constantly on your guard. Our room was clean and had all facilities and was ok for the two nights we stayed but would have been rather small for a longer period.

We spent one night in Naples on our way back to Rome and wanted to be close to the train station, which the Garibaldi certainly was. We had an excellent recommendation for food from the friendly receptionist and also had free internet access, which we used to change our train reservation. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I would recomment this hotel for a stay in Naples, although I wouldn't necessarily recommend a stay in Naple itself.

The hotel is well managed, clean, and has multi-lingual staff. It is 200 meters from the train and metro station and convenient if at is your primary means of getting around. There are good places to eat close by but the neighborhood is a bit run down. The hotel is a good value for the money.

I was pleased to only have a short distance to walk from the bus stop from the airport to the hotel. A more detailed map on the website would be appreciated. I have never been to a city...all over the world that was as dirty as Naples...even in India, a very poor country, They take more pride in their surroundings. Thankfully the Mecure was clean and safe.

First of all, the room rate was incredibly cheap for this nice and clean room. I stayed there 2 nights. The staffs of the reception were very friendly and kind. The room was very small and I cared a little about the sound of the train. However it is very closed to the central station. So despite a kind of sleasy and dark atomosphere around the hotel, nothig wrong had happened to me and I had a good stay.

What a welcome! We arrived in Napoli after an overnight train journey and went to the hotel at 1015 am to leave our luggage in reception. We were told our room was already available by the extremely polite and cheerful receptionist, so we were able to shower and relax for a couple of hours before heading out. Some previous guests commented about the proximity to the Circumvesuviana railway lines. We were on he first floor overlooking the tracks, but were not disturbed at all (especially as the trains do not run through the night). All in all excellent value for money and an ideally located hotel for those using the train to get around (halfway between Napoli Centrale for mainline trains and Porta Nolana station for trains to Sorrento, Pompei and Ercolano etc.)

Hotel Mecure was such a great choice for us. The room was clean and the staff very accomodating. The breakfast was very good and well worth the six euro. It has been said that Naples is dangerous....we had a totally different experience. Yes, there are areas that are questionable and people that are well...seedy, but if you do not appear to be "out of place" you should be fine. We are planning a return trip to Italy next year and will stay at Mercure Garibaldi.

very nice modern hotel (2002); friendly and accurate staff; close to the old town; in the neighbourhood cozy cheap restaurants; easy to reach from the airport and train station it is however a pity that Naples is a dirty town, but very nice for a long weekend; have a nice walk to Piaza Bilini and enjoy a book and some drinks

The hotel is at 20 m from the railway, every train shakes the room and the whole hotel like an earthquake. And more: they gave me a room at ground floor, the wall of the bathroom was so thin that I could not sleep at all because of a service door slamming all the night. I fortunately obtained at midnight to change the room. They should not propose at all room like these... Rooms are however very small (even if I have chosen a double room), carpets very old, dirty walls. This zone near the railway station is generally unsafe.

For the price this was an exceptional hotel. A very nice place in a rather run down neighborhood, but very near Central Station (Garibaldi). The room and bathroom were very nice and clean. The breakfast was excellent, with a great variety of food. One thing stood out in such contrast with everything else: the carpets were filthy, both in the room and in the hallways--like they had never been vacumed. Otherwise this was a great place.

Stayed awhile here. Naples isnt the greatest city and whilst the area that the hotel is in near the station is considered rough, we actually found other parts of naples to be worse. There wasnt an internet point but there is a internet cafe 1 min walk away. Being near the train station is handy going to Pompei, amazing pasta and pizza 2 min from the hotel. Would stay there again.

Overall, the hotel is great!! Excellent location, staff friendly, helpful & welcoming. Do not eat in the cafe/bar. The wine I had was great, but food exceptionally disappointing. Thinking I'd ordered Italian sausage with potatoes, (after the options first then second I wanted wasn't available from a small menu!!) Ended up being a long hambuger pattie, with chips. From a service point of view.. the plate, not hot, the food also not hot. Not happy!! Pity, as the rest of my stay was great!!

Although in a poor area of Naples, walking through the door the environment changes to a very comfortable, good quality hotel. When I arrived at the hotel the personnel told me there is no reservation at my name. Even I had the confirmation of my reservation the person told me she had received anything at my name. The person has to telephone at Venere for finally obtaining the confirmation of this reservation. I roughly passed 20 to 30 minutes to the counter in order to regulate the situation. This was a wonderful hotel, with very welcoming and helpful staff who all spoke good english. A top featre of this hotel was the free shuttle bus at night that took us to the tourist areas and back when we were ready, which made staying out in the suburbs no trouble at all. Can highly recommend the Iris restaurant, just s short walk from the hotel too, fantastic food and drink, and very reasonably priced. This hotel was a pleasant surprise. It was two side streets away from the central train station so very accessible, although you should use a proper street map rather than relying on the map image provided on Venere to find it. The hotel looks very well and is a typical business standard. My reservation wasn't on their system however but they agreed to give me the same price as stated on my reservation details. The room itself was a moderately sized double, very clean and with a clean, spacious shower [power shower water pressure was impressive]. Behind the hotel is the local suburb train line but with double-glazing, there is only slight noise and it didn't disturb my sleep at all. Naples itself is not particularly geared to tourists and it was difficult to find a nice restaurant so it would be worth finding some options online ahead of your trip.

This hotel was referred to us from a friend who had stayed there on this trip to Naples. We really liked the hotel and the breakfast was very nice too. We wish we could say the same for Naples. When we arrived at the hotel they asked us to pay up front for three nights in case we should change our minds. We soon found out why. The city is very dirty with graffiti, vagrants and construction everywhere. There are wild dogs roming the train station and we still have nightmares about the traffic rules..maybe because there aren't any. It was like playing frogger trying to cross the street. We only came to Naples to see Pompeii and Herculaneum. We highly recommend going to see both. We also recommend seeing Museo Archeoligical Nazionele before going to Pompeii because they have the statues and fresco paintings that were escavated. On a positive note: Naples has great food, the people are nice and very helpful, and the city seems less expensive than other parts of Italy.

We spent 2 nights here in a triple room toward the end of our visit to Naples, and were pleasantly surprised - it was the most spacious and comfortable room, and by far the best value. Railway immediately next to the building, not very noisy but it can be heared. We were too tired in the evenings so did not disturb us, but for someone who is not a good sleeper could be annoyance. + There are TWO McDonalds' on Pzza Garibaldi, Alibus to the airport DOES NOT start from the central one as hotel staff informed - but from the corner, next to railway station. I was travelling alone and I found Naples terrifying! The area around the train station where this hotel is located is horrible! There are people selling obviously stolen goods openly on the streets and I received a lot of unpleasant comments as I was a lone female. When I finally found the hotel, after almost being killed several times while crossing the streets, I was glad to find a modern, clean hotel. However, the staff were unhelpful, rude and seemed to find tourists an inconvenience. To use the internet in the foyer cost 39cents a minute, which seemed to me to be ridiculously expensive. Breakfast cost 9euro so I never ate there when it's possible to get breakfast in a bar for 3euro. It made me think that it's not just on the streets that you are at risk of being robbed in Naples! I tried to order room service one evening and nothing I wanted was available and they refused to even cook me a plate of plain pasta so I had to go hungry (I was too scared to leave the hotel after 7pm!). I have since been informed that that particular area of the city is the red light district which comes as no surprise. The best thing in Naples is the road out of it in my opinion. The train tracks passed my bedroom window and every time a train passed the room shook. I don't think tourists are particularly welcomed in Naples and I certainly would not recommend that hotel.

It was the first time we stayed at Hotel Mercure Garibaldi, but definately not the last time. Breakfast buffett is extensive and very good, the room was comfortable and very clean, nice bathroom with hairdryer and all equipment you need. The environment is not the best, but due to the railway station and other public means of transport it's the ideal location for your shopping and sightseeing trips. Just be aware that it's loud in the morning when the train starts, but with closed window it's no problem at all and we slept very well. Also a great service from the hotel is the free shuttle service to the other mercure hotel in the city center. We will surely come again and enjoyed our stay at Mercure a lot!!!

The hotel was located within an easy walk to the main train station. Their rooms were modern and their croissats were excellent. However, we were warned by the police in the train station to be careful when we were walking to the hotel...area is littered, not well maintained and not well lit. Area Definitely Not conduscive to casual strolls.

I would recommend this hotel unconditionally if it weren't for its general surroundings. The hotel is just off the Piazza Garibaldi, which is populated by all sorts of dubious characters out to steal from you or sell you stolen goods. I had my wallet stolen at a bus stop and the thieves spent 999 euros on my bank card before I got the chance to block it (the police held me up for one(!) hour). This happened not 20 m from the national police station and within sight of the municipal police, who have an observation post on the square. The city of Naples will have to clean up its act before I go back there. A real shame ...

Very nice hotel, terrible area. Very close to the train station, but the locals can be a bit scary on the side street.

The hotel was within 2 or 3 blocks of the Central Station. Very convenient. Rooms were extremely nice and clean. The single was small but adequate, and had a double bed. The room had a private shower, etc. The surrounding area does not look all that great, but inside the hotel it is a different world. The free breakfast buffet was great. I would stay there again and I would strongly recommend it.

This was an excellent hotel and we will look for the Mercure chain in future. We planned to use Napoli as a homebase to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum and wanted a hotel that was close to the train station. The area around the train station is not good but the hotel was only a short walk away and appeared to have very good security. Breakfast was good and staff were helpful in keeping our luggage for the day after we had checked out.

The Garibaldi isn't a bad hotel, and it's got proximity to the railway station as a bonus, but that is also something of a problem as well. The area around the hotel is in a very poor state, and is populated by an assortment of vagrants and enormous quantities of garbage. This is not the hotel's fault. As for the hotel, the Garibaldi was pleasant and clean, but a few things could be improved. The desk staff, for instance, did not seem to know much about services that were available for tourists (and didn't seem terribly interested in offering help or advice). The airconditioning in the rooms is shut down between 3:00 am and 7:00 am, so you can wake at about 4:00 swimming in your bed (and most of the nights were very hot). Mind you, the sheer expectation of the air-con coming on at 7:00am is something to look forward to. Breakfast was buffet and very good quality, and the breakfast staff were bright and helpful. A good breakfast is a good start for a day's sightseeing. Overall, the Garibaldi was good, but it could improve with a few changes.

Very good hotel. Nearly perfect apart some slight vibrations in the rooms due to train passages. The surroundings are quite gloomy, but the hotel's private police patrols the street during the night.

The hotel was quite good. My room was very clean, with a good bathroom. As the hotel is quite modern, the room was well insulated from any noise from outside and the corridor. The breakfast was OK. The hotel is close to the train station. The area is not very pleasant, although quite convenient for travelling around.

The staff was extraordinarily helpful: my wallet was picked at the train station and the staff went far beyond the required to help me with the resulting problems such as contacting my credit card companies and making sure that we were mentally and physically OK. In spite of the location next to the tracks, the room was quiet.
