Hotel Mercure Garibaldi met my expectations. The location was very near the train station. The room was a little stuffy, as the central air conditioning was turned off. Opening the window helped but this allowed the noise from the nearby railway in, so it was a give and take.

The surroundings are bad looking but it is about 100 m from the railway station and it is possible to walk to the center or use a free shuttle bus. The hotel is better than expected.

Very good hotel for the price. The area is not great but it is very convenient for both railway stations.

Only stayed one night, as we arrived late in to Naples airport. Staandard Mercure chain hotel. Room ok - overlooked a rail station but not too noisy. Breakfast was very expensive! The main drawback with this hotel is the location - close to Piazza Garibaldi and the central rail station, but not a pleasant area to go out in, especially at night. Ok for a short stay.

Great deal - good situated for trips to Pompeji, Herculaneum, Vesuv - hotel surroundings poor.

When I arrived at the hotel the personnel told me there is no reservation at my name. Even I had the confirmation of my reservation the person told me she had received anything at my name. The person has to telephone at Venere for finally obtaining the confirmation of this reservation. I roughly passed 20 to 30 minutes to the counter in order to regulate the situation. I think that abnormal.

This was a wonderful hotel, with very welcoming and helpful staff who all spoke good english. A top featre of this hotel was the free shuttle bus at night that took us to the tourist areas and back when we were ready, which made staying out in the suburbs no trouble at all. Can highly recommend the Iris restaurant, just s short walk from the hotel too, fantastic food and drink, and very reasonably priced. In all, a wonderful stay and I look forward to visiting Naples again, ignore the hype, we say no trouble, just a very friendly and interesting city.

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. It was two side streets away from the central train station so very accessible, although you should use a proper street map rather than relying on the map image provided on Venere to find it. The hotel looks very well and is a typical business standard. My reservation wasn't on their system however but they agreed to give me the same price as stated on my reservation details. The room itself was a moderately sized double, very clean and with a clean, spacious shower [power shower water pressure was impressive]. Behind the hotel is the local suburb train line but with double-glazing, there is only slight noise and it didn't disturb my sleep at all. Naples itself is not particularly geared to tourists and it was difficult to find a nice restaurant so it would be worth finding some options online ahead of your trip.

This hotel was referred to us from a friend who had stayed there on this trip to Naples. We really liked the hotel and the breakfast was very nice too. We wish we could say the same for Naples. When we arrived at the hotel they asked us to pay up front for three nights in case we should change our minds. We soon found out why. The city is very dirty with graffiti, vagrants and construction everywhere. There are wild dogs roming the train station and we still have nightmares about the traffic rules..maybe because there aren't any. It was like playing frogger trying to cross the street. We only came to Naples to see Pompeii and Herculaneum. We highly recommend going to see both. We also recommend seeing Museo Archeoligical Nazionele before going to Pompeii because they have the statues and fresco paintings that were escavated. On a positive note: Naples has great food, the people are nice and very helpful, and the city seems less expensive than other parts of Italy.

We spent 2 nights here in a triple room toward the end of our visit to Naples, and were pleasantly surprised - it was the most spacious and comfortable room, and by far the best value. Its location near the train station is very convenient; we always felt safe and had excellent & inexpensive meals nearby. We did not pay 9 euros for breakfast at the hotel, however. Naples was very enjoyable and we would go there again.

Railway immediately next to the building, not very noisy but it can be heared. We were too tired in the evenings so did not disturb us, but for someone who is not a good sleeper could be annoyance. + There are TWO McDonalds' on Pzza Garibaldi, Alibus to the airport DOES NOT start from the central one as hotel staff informed - but from the corner, next to railway station. We missed the bus because of this misinformation.

I was travelling alone and I found Naples terrifying! The area around the train station where this hotel is located is horrible! There are people selling obviously stolen goods openly on the streets and I received a lot of unpleasant comments as I was a lone female. When I finally found the hotel, after almost being killed several times while crossing the streets, I was glad to find a modern, clean hotel. However, the staff were unhelpful, rude and seemed to find tourists an inconvenience. To use the internet in the foyer cost 39cents a minute, which seemed to me to be ridiculously expensive. Breakfast cost 9euro so I never ate there when it's possible to get breakfast in a bar for 3euro. It made me think that it's not just on the streets that you are at risk of being robbed in Naples! I tried to order room service one evening and nothing I wanted was available and they refused to even cook me a plate of plain pasta so I had to go hungry (I was too scared to leave the hotel after 7pm!). I have since been informed that that particular area of the city is the red light district which comes as no surprise. The best thing in Naples is the road out of it in my opinion. The train tracks passed my bedroom window and every time a train passed the room shook. I don't think tourists are particularly welcomed in Naples and I certainly would not recommend that hotel.

It was the first time we stayed at Hotel Mercure Garibaldi, but definately not the last time. Breakfast buffett is extensive and very good, the room was comfortable and very clean, nice bathroom with hairdryer and all equipment you need. The environment is not the best, but due to the railway station and other public means of transport it's the ideal location for your shopping and sightseeing trips. Just be aware that it's loud in the morning when the train starts, but with closed window it's no problem at all and we slept very well. Also a great service from the hotel is the free shuttle service to the other mercure hotel in the city center. We will surely come again and enjoyed our stay at Mercure a lot!!!

It was a very clean, well organised hotel and very central in location, excellently placed. The staff were extremly helpful and welcomming. The rooms were comfortable and spacious for our needs. Breakfast was an amazing choice even my fussy eating children were able to find enough to eat. Its the first time I have booked on line the web site was easy to use and had everything I needed to know. Although it didn't bother me there is the noise of the trains which could be a concern for other users

Thr hotel was fine, clean and the breakfast was good appart from lukewarm coffee. The only trouble was that the area is being renovated and it is surrounded by building sites, as seems to be the whole of Naples. Be very careful in Naples as the pickpockets are in abundance (I nearly cought one only he ran off) and it is the least friendly place for padestrians. The traffic is awful.

Close to rail station and railway line. Not the best area of Naples but to be honest I did not feel unsafe and I loved the atmosphere of the "true" Naples. I just stayed one night and for that it was fine. Our room was next to the rail line but no trains ran from 23.00 - 05.00, but I was woken at 05.00. For one night I would recommend, for more nights ask for a room away from the rail line.

Stayed four nights. Good hotel with excellent breakfast for Italy - hot and cold buffet with local pastries/fruit. Close to railway station in rather a scruffy area which will probably be better once station refurbishment is completed. Extremely good value for money if you pay in advance.

The hotel was located within an easy walk to the main train station. Their rooms were modern and their croissats were excellent. However, we were warned by the police in the train station to be careful when we were walking to the hotel...area is littered, not well maintained and not well lit. Area Definitely Not conduscive to casual strolls.

I would recommend this hotel unconditionally if it weren't for its general surroundings. The hotel is just off the Piazza Garibaldi, which is populated by all sorts of dubious characters out to steal from you or sell you stolen goods. I had my wallet stolen at a bus stop and the thieves spent 999 euros on my bank card before I got the chance to block it (the police held me up for one(!) hour). This happened not 20 m from the national police station and within sight of the municipal police, who have an observation post on the square. The city of Naples will have to clean up its act before I go back there. A real shame ...

The hotel was within 2 or 3 blocks of the Central Station. Very convenient. Rooms were extremely nice and clean. The single was small but adequate, and had a double bed. The room had a private shower, etc. The surrounding area does not look all that great, but inside the hotel it is a different world. The free breakfast buffet was great. I would stay there again and I would strongly recommend it.

This was an excellent hotel and we will look for the Mercure chain in future. We planned to use Napoli as a homebase to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum and wanted a hotel that was close to the train station. The area around the train station is not good but the hotel was only a short walk away and appeared to have very good security. Breakfast was good and staff were helpful in keeping our luggage for the day after we had checked out.

The Garibaldi isn't a bad hotel, and it's got proximity to the railway station as a bonus, but that is also something of a problem as well. The area around the hotel is in a very poor state, and is populated by an assortment of vagrants and enormous quantities of garbage. This is not the hotel's fault. As for the hotel, the Garibaldi was pleasant and clean, but a few things could be improved. The desk staff, for instance, did not seem to know much about services that were available for tourists (and didn't seem terribly interested in offering help or advice). The airconditioning in the rooms is shut down between 3:00 am and 7:00 am, so you can wake at about 4:00 swimming in your bed (and most of the nights were very hot). Mind you, the sheer expectation of the air-con coming on at 7:00am is something to look forward to. Breakfast was buffet and very good quality, and the breakfast staff were bright and helpful. A good breakfast is a good start for a day's sightseeing. Overall, the Garibaldi was good, but it could improve with a few changes.

The hotel was quite good. My room was very clean, with a good bathroom. As the hotel is quite modern, the room was well insulated from any noise from outside and the corridor. The breakfast was OK. The hotel is close to the train station. The area is not very pleasant, although quite convenient for travelling around.

The staff was extraordinarily helpful: my wallet was picked at the train station and the staff went far beyond the required to help me with the resulting problems such as contacting my credit card companies and making sure that we were mentally and physically OK. In spite of the location next to the tracks, the room was quiet.
