Hotel was in a slightly dodgy area, but was an easy walk from the Naples train station. We had a fairly nice room with a double bed, room had a bar fridge, and a relatively new shower. The shower itself was tiny and a little difficult (strange showerhead), but other than that we happy with our stay. There was some street noise, but that is Naples for you.

I really enjoyed my stay. The hotel is in a great location particularly for trains round the bay of Naples with the Circumvesuviana terminus beung only 100m away. I was on the top floor and it was perfectly quiet up there I had heard it was in a red-light district but even walking back fairly late at night I saw no such thing.

Hotel Colombo offers an excellent relationship between price and quality, very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff and a good location for exploring the center of Naples. For people sensitive to noise, the surroundings of the hotel are probably too noisy, otherwise the hotel is very recommendable considering the prices and the quality it offers.

As long as you are clear what you are getting then the hotel is fine. The guy on desk when I arrived spoke reasonable English and was very helpful but at other times the staff were less so. So I was quite lucky. The room was a bit cramped but on the other hand, I booked a single and it WAS a double bed, just a slightly cramped room. Bear in mind Naples is a lively, noisy grubby place with lots of street life. The hotel is near the station with all that that entails in any big city. But it is very close to the railway lines, restaurants. I found the noise level was fine, even with the windows open. If you are a young traveller like me out to see the sights, then this is well located and good value. If you are prissy or elderly or looking for a refined holiday you ought to be looking in a different area. I'd book it again.

Saludos

Hotel has 2 entrances both locked at night. The rear one faces a street in which prostitutes frequent. In the mornings we had to step over used syringes in the street. Being so close to the railway station and in a poorer neighbourhood makes this area a tad worrysome at night. Showers were liable to temperature fluctuation and you can scald yourself if not careful, in our room your knees were up against the wall if seated on the toilet! MAJOR NOTE AIR CONDITIONING IS CHARGED FOR EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT STATED ON THE VENERE WEB PAGE AND THE HOTEL WILL DEBIT YOUR CARD ON RESERVATION TO VERIFY THE DETAILS, YOU WILL GET A CREDIT BUT HAVE TO PAY THE EXCHANGE RATE CHARGES. Not good for children due to the area, breakfast is of poor value when you can get better in a street cafe, but to be fair they don't seem to object how much you eat but only offer one drink and a fruit juice

My only concern with my experience at this Hotel is that in the web site they stated that your credit card is only for reservations, at my arival I provide a different credit card for my expenses however they charge both credit card creating a extra expense of $25.00 on the credit card for used for reservation, I am going to request a refund for their mistake. Other than that everythis was ok.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Colombo; the hotel staff were really great and although the rooms were pretty tiny, they were adaquate for our needs. The taxi driver on the way up warned us about the rough neighborhood, but it really was no worse than staying in New York; Actually we were really close to a major road with plenty of shopping, restaurants, and markets, and the metro is very near the hotel.

Single room with a quaint but functional bathroom. On the whole very clean, only disadvantage being the area, which was very noisy. Staff were friendly and although they couldn't all speak English we managed to make ourselves understood. For the price it was value for money, although because of the noise from the streets I wouldn't stay there again.

Considering the low price, this was a good accomodation since I was traveling alone.

Dangerous and loud street, but not far from the train station. Breakfast is not!!! included, so if you go to one, you are charged 3 euro when you check out (they do not inform you about that in advance). Air conditioning is also not included. If you want it, you pay 5 euro/night. Therefore, the price comes to a numer as you could pay in a nice (3*) hotel. Booking on-line they inform you that your card will not be charged, but when you check out, they give you credit card authorization to sign (for 1 night stay). There are plenty other hotels around train station, which seems much better.

The location was fabulous. Located within easy walking distance of all major transport exchanges, plus being not far from the historic centre made it ideal for a tourist. The location also offered the daily market that was on the street outside. This might not be for some but it was great for immersing yourself in foreign culture. The rooms were fully equiped with air conditioning (needed for high heat in summer) and television offering a wide variety of channels. They accepted all major credit cards plus offered breaskfast, water and postcards. :)

We arrived in late December by taxi late at night. Surroundings looked grim. A lot of rubbish in the streets and shops boarded up. Once inside the Hotel, The welcome was friendly and efficient. Next morning and every morning found on entering the street outside that there was a lively and local market which added tremendous atmosphere. This hotel is highly recommended as it is near the station for the coast, Pompeii and Vesuvius. Although the area around is a little bit rough, its good value for money and very clean. The staff obliging and the breakfast room basic but adequate.

The hotel was like we expected. We only had a dispute about the price: although we called the hotel in advance that we would be one night later (our flight was cancelled)and at the phone they told us that there was no problem at all, and that they would change the reservation into a two nights stay instead of three nights, we had to pay for the night we were not there. We tried to discuss about this, but it was 6 a'clock in the morning and you never win discussions with Napolitani!!

I asked for a twin and a single room either ground floor or with lift access as I am nearly 70. They asked for my credit card number so I presumed they had the facilities I had requested. When we got there we faced a winding staircase, in the twin room the beds were touching each other and we could only get one suitcase into the room. The single room just had room for one suitcase. The bathroom was so small that to sit on the toilet your knees were up against the bidet - and I'm only 4ft10ins tall. The man on reception was surly and insisted I would pay for the three days I had booked. So, feeling intimidated I signed the slips for the two rooms. We then had to drag our suitcases around Naples until we found another room! In 8 weeks of travelling around Europe, England, Ireland and America this was the only bad experience we had. I still feel he had no right to charge me for the rooms as they had taken my booking under false pretences. I would warn anyone from using this hotel.

Excellent value for money, I would happily stay here again. Convenient for cheap shopping/eating, transport and the centro storico. Situated in a fascinating, friendly and very 'neapolitan' market area - we and the children loved it here. Note: I rated noise level in rooms as 'excellent' not because it's particularly quiet but because the noise was wonderful. Other reviewers are right about the shower cubicles being small: I slept in the bed rather than the shower, so this wasn't a problem.

The price of 65 EUR is not so little that there is a poor service ... the rooms - especially the bathroom smelled terrible and we had fear to get lice ... the sourrounding location was terrible dirty - the waste towered up on the streets. when we arrived (saturday night) we had fear to be hold up ... our room was on the third floor and to get our luggage there was quite a challenge because of the small steps ... it is only a place for people who really don't care about cleanness and space ...

What you could expect in naples for that price, but poor compared to two star hotels elsewhere; the aircon was silent, but blowing right into our face while sleeping; the room was very clean and noises from outside limited.

We had some problems at the check out, because the man at the counter couldn't speak English at all. This delayed our departure so much that we missed the boat we were going to. We misunderstood each other for a long time, which was quite an unpleasant way of leaving the hotel.

Basically, you get what you pay for.... The hotel is reasonably located but not in the greatest part of town; on the other hand, Naples in general was a bit shady. We felt we had decent service; but with a family, we probably would have been more comfortable elsewhere where it was a more family friendly environment. The second time we stayed there, our room was pretty noisy and unfortunately, smelly.

We just returned from from our trip to Italy and in the mail was my debit card statement. I was charged twice for the room. I had paid initially when I booked the room with your company. Upon checking out, the clerk said that I needed to pay upon leaving as the credit card charge with the original booking was just a way to hold the reservation and that the card would not be charged. I have statements for both charges from my credit card companies. How do I go about getting a credit for one of the charges? Please help. Jerry Lachance

First of all, why are you going to Naples? Seriously, why? Think about staying in some of the smaller cities around, like Sorrento. Anyway, this hotel was ok. Nice price for the location, but noisey as all get out. It seems that the drivers in Naples never sleep and they always use their horns. seriously consider staying in some of the smaller towns.

If price, air conditioning, and convenience to the central train station are important to you then we recommend Hotel Colombo. You will be doing a bit of “slumming” by American standards. We found the room adequately sized, but with a tiny bathroom (We had one of their smallest rooms), quiet, safe, and reasonably clean. We spent 4 nights there.

Good place to visit easily Napoli and other sites. Very nice open market near the hotel. Bathroom very, very small. Air conditioner without temperature regulation quite imposible to use all the night if you want to stay in good health. The room was clean. Level of noise acceptable from the outside, but hope to have quiet neighbours if you want to sleep. Not so bad for an hotel in center town for this level of price.

The surroundings are a bit rough but the hotel was very nice. the price is very reasonable. the street nearby is under construction so it is very quiet in the evening. 5 euros extra for air condition but well worth it. we were very happy with this hotel.

Hotel Colombo is close to the central train station in Naples. It´s also close to the other train station in Naples as well. The hotel is located about a block or two from the main street. Naples didn´t impress me at all, but the room was alright. The bathroom though was really small. The good thing about the room was that it had air conditioning.

The people in my group had no problems with their rooms. Everyone enjoyed the stay. The one problem was the area outside the hotel. The pavement was being replaced and also at night it was a very rough neighbourhood and rats could be seen everywhere.

We were stowed away on the 5th floor. No elevator, so going up the stairs was really difficult. The staff and owner were very helpful in bringing up and down our luggage, but this fact , no elevator, should have been stated on the website. Just in case elderly or pregnant people want to book.

The rooms are rather shabby but quiet and the shower is barely wide enough to stand in.The hotel is located close to the train station which is a fairly rough area, but the daytime hustle and bustle of the streetlife and the busy market on the adjoining street reminds you that Naples is a crowded, dirty, living city and not an 'open-air museum' like Venice or Verona. The Hotel may be a little worn around the edges, but the room rates are very resonable.

This hotel is located in a street that is torn up, with litter everywhere and we actually could see rats running around in the street. Not in the best of areas and as two women travelling together we felt very threatened and made sure we were in our room by dark. Staff not at all welcoming and only did what they had to and no more. Found that all the areas of Naples that we saw were dirty and threatening and would advise people to skip going here unless they really wanted to visit - everyone we spoke to who had stopped in Naples felt the same.

The hotel was located in a non touristic authentic area. It was a good start for sight seeings in Napels. Very friendly employees. No problems in finding the hotel. There is a public market every day.It is a good adress for people who want to live in an authentic area to discover Napels old center by feet.It is the second time i used venere com for hotels in Italy. very good service and good relationship between price/quality.We had also good experiences in Rome last year.

Small hotel, small rooms, the welcome was not very warm. The Price is okay. I have had room 33 (Single) I paid the surcharge of 5€ for the aircondition. The problem was that the cold air came direct to the bed with no chance to correct this. I have had the choice of "cold storm" or heat. The stairs to the third floor are very small and high. The surrounding is very interest.

The place was good for this price category. The central location is useful for day trips to places like Sorrent, Pompeji etc. disadvantage: the noise level from outside (my window did not close properly). Because of sickness I could only stay for half of the reservation period, but I had to pay for the complete period at the hotel reception. It does not seem that I will get any kind of refund for this, so this is a disadvantage of the "reservation system": too inflexible

The hotel Colombo is situated in the vicinity, but not ín!, of a less attractive neighborhood At night the street of the hotel looks at first sight maybe more threatening than it actually is The old centre and the piazza Garibaldi (train station) are well within walking distance. There was not much noise from the outside in the room (not more than reasonably expected in such a chaotic city) Service was what could be expected at a 2 star hotel. We didn't have breakfast inside the hotel. It is not included, and next to the hotel is a nice bar where one can take a cappuchino and a sweet cake for breakfast, standing at the counter

This was a friendly, central and pretty clean Hotel. Although the shower in our room was pretty dirty and could have done with a good scrub. We possibly could have picked a better weekend rather than Easter Holiday's as nearly everywhere was closed. The transport was off part of the afternoon on Sunday/Monday. We walked most of time. We bought a three day travel pass costing €25 each but didn't really get the benefit of it. We did go to Pompei which was great. All in all Naples was beautiful and we would love to go back but would book a hotel closer to the Port of Naples and not around bank holidays.
