It was a great place to stay in Naples. Close to everything we wanted to see and easily accessed from the train station. The rooms were clean and well kept, the staff was great. The only minor problem was the noise in the courtyard in the evening - but that was a minor problem. The price was also very reasonable.

It is not safe cause it is very close to the train station area.I have been robbed on the way to the hotel in the dark morning when I arrived at napoli and my watch definitely has been robbed away.it was a terrible experience.I Know it was not the fault of the hotel, but I think if i had chose some other hotel, probably the accident would not have happened to me.

Very quiet hotel, no street noise. Possibility to park a motocycle overnight. Very good value. For breakfast: you have a little "kiosque" at the corner of the street for a natural juice, and plenty of cafes for a cappucino. And don't miss the restaurant in front of Capuana (150 m), for their "Zuppe di Cozze": unforgettable.

When you like to explore Naples from the islands (Capri, Ischia, Procida), the Vesuv, Pompeii and Herculaneum, to the very interesting historic city with all the sights and very friendly people, but also like to drink the tasty Espresso ala Napoli, and you love to hike in the mountains (Monti Lattari, up to 1440m asl., with funicolare from Castellammare di Stabia), then is this hotel the very right place for you. Not to forget the Amalfi-Coast (Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello!!!), 09.00 AM with Metro del Mare from Merghelina. Do you knew the Area Marina Protetta Gaiola - you m_u_s_t visit it (and don't forget your bathers for swimming, also identification documents!). Very helpfull for your undertakings is the good built out Area Rapid Transit with busses, metro-lines, trams, ferrys and Metro del Mare. There are so many precious things around here, enough for the next 10 years and more; thats why I must come back every year. Naples for ever... Bon voyage!

We just stayed one night at this hotel before going home. Except the few windows in the room, the hotel is good, quiet and near the station. We had breakfast in a bakery near the hotel. The staff is warm. We had a nice stay in this place !

I have been staying at this family owned and run hotel for 9 years now. The ivy-covered main entrance is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac just 10 minutes walk from Naples Central station. As a result, it is a quiet oasis near the centre of the bustling metropolis with excellent transport links to all the archaeological sites on the Bay of Naples. While breakfast is not included, there are many cafes and restaurants nearby, as well as local grocer shops on the same road. There is also a good supermarket within 5 minutes walk on the way to the main central station. I would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation as a secure, cheap and clean hotel. I had previously stayed at three other hotels in Naples before Hotel Casanova, but on the last eleven occasions I have holidayed there. This has been at different times of year, both by myself and with my wife and son, and I have never experienced any problems. While the neighbourhood is ethnically diverse, surrounded by traditional, rather than modern, Naples-style apartments and small community-oriented retail outlets, I have always felt safe. Unlike some budget hotels I have found the Hotel’s rooms to be spacious and clean. Importantly, for Naples, they are quiet enough for a good night’s sleep, and most are with on suite shower facilities. In fact, during my last visit these were almost as large as the bedroom themselves. In particular, I have always found one of the managers, Giuseppe Arzillo, to be very friendly and helpful with a good command of the English language, and he is the best to talk to if you have any enquiries about staying in Naples. Overall, highly recommended as alternative budget accommodation for those not seeing a luxury hotel.

Many positives The hotel staff was excellent. The rooms were OK. Pretty low end, but clean and reasonably comfortable. The location is good, but the directions for finding it are awful. Basically go to the end of the square towards the caffe Kimbo sign and turn right at the first main street. Casanova is ahead of you about four blocks on the right. You may be able to see it better from across the street. There is a sign on the building. The neighborhood is OK. Ive seen other comments that say it was bad, but I didnt see any problems. I did see a couple of ladies who might have been hookers but they didnt solicit me, probably because I look too old. The crowds on the street are numerous and you wont really have a problem walking around. Its mostly a working class-middle class crowd. There is an excellent open air market near the train station. Prices are as good as Ive seen anywhere, even Mexico Dont stay there if you need a class hotel. But if youre on a budget or, like me, just dont want to spend much money, then I would recommend it. By the way, I paid 35 a night for a single, but I noticed a week later that the price was quoted as 40. I d still pay that and be happy.

This hotel is the worst hotel one can ever imagine. The worst location, to get there, you need to pass a street full of garbage; the disgusting equipment, no window, all the stuff in toilet seemed a hundred years old; the worst service, worst of all, a group of liars. I had some quarrels with them, so when I was ready to leave, they lied to me, that there was something wrong with the payment machine, and charged me double price, just unbelievable. All in all, this so-called hotel doesn't worth a penny, even one night is unbearable. I feel disappointed by Venere too, they should do some research first.

Hotel Casanova was perfect for the needs of myself and my wife. It is an easy 10 minute walk from the train station, it is not "fancy", but it is clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. It is in a less desirable part of town which would frighten some potential customers away, but that just seemed part of the adventure of staying there. My wife and I never felt threatened or in any kind of uncomfortable situation. There is internet access and the prices are more than reasonable.

We liked the hotel and central location. We always entered from the main street of Corso Garibaldi (just south of Via Casanova in an inner courtyard that is locked during off hours. Ring the doorbell on the N side of the door.) as it was more convenient for us and I suspect that it is safer. People were very nice to us and we had no crime problems, but be on alert. Naples is still known for petty crime. Parts of Naples were still dirty from the garbage strike, but we had lots of fun. We were there for 4 nights in late March 2008. It was often cold (lows of about 7C, highs 14) and cloudy and rainy. We thought that our room was chilly (perhaps 15C). The heat was turned off, probably because it had been warmer a few days before. There was one extra medium weight blanket in the room, but the 1st night was annoyingly chilly. We solved this by wearing our long underwear as pajamas and all was just fine. The lights in the room are not very bright, but are adequate. It was tricky to adjust the hot water with the single lever shower, but you could do it. Something was wrong with that particular valve. (Room 18) They usually are easy to use. I would stay there again in an instant, but thought it only fair to mention the above. Most of the staff spoke enough English. There is a coffee/pastry shop across Corso Garibaldi w/café late at 1.00E & sweet roll starting at 0.80 E. Try the fancier items in the 1.10 to 2.00E range. Some are wonderful! Our favorite pizza (and more) restaurant was the Di Matteo on Via Dei Tribunali at Vico Giganti about 1km away. Tables inside AND upstairs and take-away. Naples was a nice place to visit.

Hotel Casanova is close to the main station, and has very good transport links to nearby beauty spots and to the city of Naples. Breakfast was wonderful, in as much as although the hotel advertises breakfast for 4 Euro's there is no breakfast. Instead you are directed across the road to on of the finest cake shops/bars in all Naples. It has been in business for 171 years so they must be doing something right. The area around the hotel can be intimidating, however it is gradually being renovated. We had heard about how dangerous it could be, but my wife and I walked all around the area and into town with no problems ever. You can get the bus R2 from Piazza Garibaldi to right into the heart of everything, Plebiscito, Teatro Carlo, via Toledo etc. But be careful,if it is crowded, there are pickpockets about. You can also get a trolleybus directly to Museo Archeologico from outside the back door. Naples is in general a very friendly town, but it is wise to be cautious, as I said there are pickpockets, and even I that should know better, had my wallet stolen. This was but but was made up for by the extreme kindness of the owner and staff of the restaurant we were in when I discovered the loss. They phoned Visa for me, let me call my daughter in England to help get my card blocked, and they were very generous when my wife tried to pay. "These people bring shame on our city" was what was said to us. If you promise not to take advantage of them and you want a wonderful meal, great service in one of Naples best restaurants serving local cuisine, and is a member of the "Slow Food Movement" then you could do worse than try to find Hosteria Toledo, just off via Toledo. Back to the hotel, some of the staff have some English, but they are all very friendly, and willing and eager to please. Not having to pay for the use of the computer is a plus too. We loved it and will return.

One can easily miss the entrance of the hotel. I spent half an hour searching the hotel even though I knew and I was told by passer-bys that it was in the vicinity. A more clear map on the web would make my stay perfect. Room clean and big. One common Internet point provided (not the case for many other hotels in Italy). Location highly accessible by public transport.

Not a pleasant stay. This was the only time in a 3-week journey I was afraid to park my car at the door of the hotel. No a/c. Surroundings were apalling, you don't feel safe.My strong advice is you go outside Naples, to the beautiful amalfitan coast if you can. Naples is definitely not an easy venue.

I enjoyed staying at the Hotel Casanova. My room was clean, comfortable and pleasent. The hotel is easy to find and centrally located. It is a convenient walk to Piazza Garibaldi, Naples' major transit hub. Porta Capuana, a gateway to the historic center less than 100 meters away. The staff is friendly and helpful. When asked, they offered good suggestions regarding local restaurants and public transportation. I would gladly return.

The hotel is relatively close to the train station which is convenient, but the streets on the walk there were literally filled with trash and seedy looking characters. We were awoken one night by a long sequence of firecrackers or something just outside the hotel. The staff and help inside was good, the room was decent and cheap -- but you could probably find better.

Good inexpensive hotel a few blocks from the Naples Central Station. The location is fairly convenient, but busy and maybe a bit intimidating for some. The hotel has two entrances that are somewhat hidden, one on a quiet side alley and another on the main road that requires you to buzz in. The man who runs it was very nice even though his English was not too good. The room was nice and the price was excellent.

I had originally booked a room without a toilet or bath. When I arrived I was given that room and showned where the toilet and shower were down the hall. But then about 5 minutes later the deskman arrived in my room and told me to follow him with my suitcase. I thought I was being thrown out of the hotel. To my surprise I was given another room with a toilet and shower in the room. He upgraded me at no additional cost. It was heaven to not have to walk down the hall for that shower or to go to the bathroom. What a nice surprise.

The rooms are clean, the price is ok. The attitude of the employee(I think maybe he is the son of the boss or things like that) is quite bad, it's like we owe him something!! The first night we arrived, one of the employee told us that he couldn't find our reservation, so we couldn't stay. He made us go to another hotel, Zara, which belongs to the same family. Then we just had to wonder around on the street trying to find the other hotel at about 1:00 in the morning!! It's really incredible how they treated their customers!!!

The hotel is located very close to the train station - which is very handy if you wish to use naples as a base to visit other locations. There was a mix up with our booking when we arrived, with the room we reserved (room with shared bathroom) not avaliable. We were however placed in a room with private bathroom for no extra charge. There was another mix up with our booking however. We had booked for 3 days. When we later checked with the owners we only had our room reserved for two days, with no other rooms avaliable for our last day.

Nice place, easy walk from the train station, but a little hard to find. We walked right past the door. The two streets listed in the address are because the lobby is on a different street (Via Venezia) than the other door (Corso Baribaldi) where there is just a sign. Finding your way in Naples is a little more difficult than your average large Italain city. We had a hard time finding street names and direction on the map that we had.

Stay in Hotel Casanova in Naples was really excellent. We got a warm reception and the first man we met was Joseph in the reception who gave a cordial welcome. He was good in English. The other staffs were equally good. They guided us and helped us a lot. They gave us excellent service. Rooms were airy, clean and safe. The rate was economic. We had a very good stay. Moreover, the hotel has a good location. It is close to the Naples station. I will strongly recommend tourists to stay in Casanova if they are in Naples.

Although the staff are not proficient in English, they are very friendly. The hotel is located in an unsafe area.

This hotel is in a really bad part of town. I was scared to go out at night. People eople were shouting in the alley below our window until past 3:00am. Also, the room was stuffy and hot, so we couldn't leave the windows closed to stifle the noise level. Neither of us slept more than 2 hours. I had booked two nights, but not having slept, we opted to change our plans. When we politely asked to check out a day early because we were unhappy with our experience, they told us that they had to charge us for the second night anyway! We were so unhappy that we checked out regardless of the extra cost. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

To find the hotel was a bit difficult. Anyway the location is very central, so we did most of Naples by walking. The central railway station and bus station is only 3 min. walk. Great location to do all the "normal" Naple-tourist things.

We had a very pleasant stay in Hotel Casanova. The staff was very friendly, cheerful and helpful. The rooms were cleaned every day! The location is very pleasant, because it is in the heart of Napels and everything is within walking distance.

Very clean recently refurbished hotel for budget/backpacker market. Would not stay again as the area was very worrying. Lots of petty crime and police around haven't felt so unsafe in a while.

Its a fantastic break from Hostels. However, half the staff are difficult to communicate with. For almost double the price of a cheap hostel, I got a nice double bed in a large room. I cant complain. I would stay there again, but with roommates to help split the cost.

This hotel was a little gem in the middle of a very grim area. The room was immaculatly clean, well furnished and the en -suite bathroom was also very good. Double glazing kept out the noise. Its location was excellent for the main hstoric attractions and the station was a short walk away. Visitors need to be aware that it is only the fact that this hotel lacks public facilities such as bar and restaurants that makes it 2 star. The accomodation and helpfulness of the staff make it worthy of more.

Only when budget is the chief and sole concern, should Casanova be recommended. This being said, and considering its proximity to the main station, it is a safe hotel with staff that are not deaf nor lazy unlike typical American equivalent. One will be ashamed of having taken granted of constant hot water in the shower. Despite its cleaness, the shower booth is definitely unbearbale for any claustrophobic and who he hates to wet new socks in the morning. Front desk is credible and reasonably helpful as it is, yet the thin wall made it inevitable to complain.

Best value for money. Very, very clean. Nice rooms and bathrooms, no worries. Good situated for eating out and walking all and about. Suprising quite for district, only in the morning the staff was a bit "unsensitive" and a bit to loud. Bed was a bit to hard for my back. Other then that highly recommended.

The cleanest hotel EVER! Don't be daunted by the area (most of Naples looks like that!). Rooms are brand new (renovated), but matresses are obvisouly not: bed springs poked into our backs all night. No TV in rooms. We paid a little more than quoted on the website (EUR for 4 nights). You pay extra for breakfast, so rather go to the coffee bar across the road. Order and pay at the till first then show the slips at the counter to get your Italian coffee & pastries.

The Hotel is pretty good. The man at the reception was very nice. Unfortunately the beds were too soft. The location of the hotel is good for visitors who travel by train or are on their way to another city. The hotel isn't very close to the city center of Naples.

The worst hostel stay in my life! It´s not even worth 1 star, try to avoid it when making a reservation in Naples! We felt so uncomfortable in that "room", thank god it was only for 1 night! Terrible old furniture and dirty strapped walls, the "bathroom", toilet were untidy and icky and the air absober was loud as a starting airplane! If I ever had to stay there again, I would want to get paid for it!

Hotel was being redecorated while we stayed. New rooms should be better. Noisy neighbours and construction workers. Need better fans during hot weather. No where to have breakfast. Good location though for trains and buses and helpful owner.

The place was fine with a very central location at a low price. Rooms are basic but clean. The only drawback was that the room I had made reservations for (without bathroom) wasn't available and I had to take a more expensive one with bathroom. What's the point in making a reservation if they don't hold the room? Apart from that I had a pleasant stay.

This hotel was the best! The hotel manager treated us so well! One night our taxi driver did not drop us off in front of the hotel and the manager came out to make sure that we made it safely into the hotel. The prices were the same as what they quoted us online. It was clean and very close to the train station. I would definately stay in this hotel again. We saved money and had a clean roomy hotel room!

We looked up this hotel after seeing a recomendation in the Let's Go Italy 2002 guide. We weren't expecting a 5 star hotel, but this was a bit grungier than we expected. The walls could use some plaster and paint, and it would't hurt to have an electrical outlet. I don't know if there is anything else available in Napoli for the same price, but I DO know that we stayed in much better places, in Roma and Firence, for the same price.

My reservation through you went perfectly but a reservation which I made at the hotel was lost. I had reserved a room with TV, phone, shower & WC for 4 nights at 36E per night. The room they gave me lacked TV and WC but was only 28E. They were generally helpful and friendly.
