Inter-Hotel du Grand Monarque - Nantes

Location is splendid. 10 minutes walk to city, station or botanic park.

I stayed 3 nights at Hotel du Grand Monarque. There is no elevator, and my room was on the 3rd floor. The hotel is only a short walk from the train station, but on a very hot day with a lot of luggage it wasn't particularly easy. The hotel is very close to the cathedral and the tourist information office, and a longer but reasonable walk to the castle/museum, tramways, and areas with lots of restaurants. I didn't eat on the hotel's street except for a 2 euro petit dejeuner (coffee, canned juice, and a croissant or pain chocolat) at a little place up the street. It looks like the area is undergoing a gentrification process - some nice little boutique shops, but a lot of local young people hanging out at downscale bars in the evenings. The room was attractive and a good size, but ... it was a little strange (other rooms in the hotel might be different as there is the main staircase and then little branches off to one size, which is where my room was). The room is off a hallway where there are rooms only on one side. The hallway has lots of windows, but the room has none, except in the door. For safety and privacy, you have to keep the heavy drapes pulled across in front of the door. As a single female traveller, I would have preferred a room with a solid door. And for the sake of not feeling like I am in a basement, I would have liked a window. I would stay here again, but only if I confirmed that rooms in the main part of the hotel are in a different format where I would feel safer.

Botanic Gardens,Station, City Tourbus, Cathedral, Fairground, Eating out - all within an 8 minute walk - Excellent

Beautiful hotel. Not 5 star but so so clean and all brand new. Breakfast is value for money with cereal, yoghurt, pastries and coffee. Definitely worth a stay! Only problem is there's no elevator so winding stairs up to the top floor...

drink facilities in the room would be good

A small hotel with wonderful location.Stayed in a single room with extra-L bed,very comfortable.Sandwich,Chinese take-away is at the corner. It's highly recommended for budget stay but with nice LCD-TV etc.

The rooms have been recently refurbished or at least my room had been. There was a window in the door into the corridor and a window opposite the door in the corridor but no other window in the room itself. I felt the hotel was in quite a good location.

When I checked in it turned out that a refurbishment process was in progress on the firdt floor. It caused some inconvenience to me.
