Hotel De France - Nantes

Great place! Only -little- detail: the bathtube without courtain makes difficult to take a shower...

Had trouble finding the place, but the desk clerk was very helpful when I called for additional directions. Huge rooms, giant bathrooms, and restaurants nearby -- it couldn't have been better.

The hotel was fine. Cheap so didn't expect too much. It is in need of redecorating though and there was no shower in our room which was just bizarre to me, I have never been in a hotel without a shower. Also we were never told at check in that we would have to pay for breakfast and when we were leaving they asked did we have breakfast and we said yes. They tried to charge us €96 for our 4 days there! If we had have known it was €12 each for breakfast we would have gone somewhere else! My husband only had one crossaint each day so in the end she only charged us €48 but regardless €12 for breakfast seemed expensive.

Hôtel d'apparence chic mais bruyant : on est réveillé par le bruit des sanitaires de la chambre voisine et par les cris des fêtards dans la rue, jusque très tard dans la nuit. Il est vrai que l'hôtel est en plein centre de Nantes... Par ailleurs, 12 euros pour un petit déjeûner, même avec buffet, c'est cher.

Centrally placed and very clean. Heating not on but electric mobile heaters provided. Very laid back service in restaurant! Excellent coffee and armanagac in bar. Staff most helpful. Would definitely stay again and will recommend it to others.

To get a proper breakfast you have to arrive early. We stayed in Nantes 5 wonderful days.

Old room, not modern but the hotel in downtown Nantes is well situed

We stayed at Hotel de France the evening before Independence Day. We were given a room that overlooked the large Square in front of the opera house. The rooms were nice and clean, but the sound from the street was horrendous. There was a small crowd of drunken teenagers who were casting fireworks into the street and yelling at the passing cars. The sound travelled right into our room as we were trying to sleep. It was not very pleasant. If you stay here, be sure and ask for an interior room if you want some peace and quiet. Otherwise, the hotel seemed to be very well situated in the town . . . walking distance to the main street and restaurants etc .

Excellent behaviour of employees cannot make you forget the old fashion room furnitures. It's a pity because the hotel hall is gorgeous, but the rooms are not at the same quality level (we could not shut down the heating radiator because the handle was broken). Cleanliness could also be improved. The hotel is located really in the city center thus quite noisy (don't think you can sleep with the window open).
