On the plus side: excellent location, rooms are clean and fairly spacious, broadband Internet for no extra charge. Some (minor) drawbacks: there are no English speaking channels available on the TV (only German and one Italian), screen size is also quite small. No fridge in the room, lights are too dim. The only major criticism is the staff. When I arrived with a lot of luggage, hotel receptionists were completely absorbed in doing some paper work and didn't even bother to say hello! That kind of behavior pretty much continued throughout my stay.

Sorry, late with this review. Stayed in August. Regularly use the Bristol only change is that breakfast (for some reason) is no charged separately. However it is still a good breakfast and value for money. The hotel is as good as ever and I recommend it to any one who does not mind a 10 to 15 minute walk to the main square.

Hotel Bristol is in a very good and convenient location in Munich. The rooms are small but perfectly comfortable with good bathrooms (also small but good shower and extremely clean). My only issue was that my room was extremely noisy. I seemed to face the back door of the bar and I struggled to sleep with various noises but especially people talking loudly (possibly on cigarette breaks?) and clinking glass as I think there was bottle disposal outside. If I could get a quiet room I would stay in Hotel Bristol again without hesitation.

Really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were excellent, the breakfast was good, and the room was clean and spacious. Quieter area but plenty around in the ways of dinning. A few pubs, restaurants and cafes across the road and around near the Sendlinger Tor. Hot chestnut vendor by the U-Bahn. Easy transport links to the rest of the city and Oktoberfest at Theresienwiese Would definitely recommend for a few nights stay.

Good position, ditch the car at Hotel, then about 50meters for underground train, easy ticket macchines €'s in all languages,or a brisk 5 to 10 minute walk and your in town centre at Marienplatz. Passing lots of Restaurants, pubs, bars ect. Hotel very friendly, clean, & comfy, good base for tourists. A Minus for not having Air conditioning, as Aug 2012 was a hot one, but the rooms do have windows that open, and electric outside blinds,

I would recommend the Bristol for location: steps to the U-Bahn, take the less direct walk to-and-from the train station but less sketchy by shops and services along Sonnenstr then to Karlsplatz explore there both above and under and into the Altstadt, and interesting places to eat and drink along the way beyond Sendlinger Tor in the other direction; I would recommend Bristol for the helpful and friendly staff-I needed help from three of them and was very pleased with their customer focus; I liked the surprisingly quiet and comfortable rooms even on my busy Pettenkoferstr side...with a varied and nourishing breakfast...The bathroom fan takes too long to turn off, the tub and shower took some figuring out but were refreshing once mastered and I reported a non working light switch by the bed which was not fixed during my stay...But the wireless internet was enough for my surfing and emails and ran fast without any inconveniences. If you stay here, an Italian dinner may sound out of place but do not miss Il Dottore across the street...Marco was my waiter and his welcome and the restaurant's homemade soup, sauces, and pasta and were just the comfort I needed after a very long touring day.

Rooms are small and reception staff are abrupt and unuseful. They gave no info about the surrounding areas, we had to ask for our map and wifi code. No eyecontact by reception staff and had to force a guten tag out of them. A cleaner walked into our room without knocking at 8:30 in the morning whilst my partner was getting changed. Breakfast was good though, but range of foods, hot and cold and the area was good. Easy access from the metro and close enough to everything you could walk.

Another enjoyable stay, with my daughter, at the Bristol. Hotel is in a good location near the underground and a tram stop. Rooms are more than adequate for a weeks stay being clean and tidy every day. Breakfast is buffet style with a choice of meat and cheese with various other items on offer including hot food. Our room 120 on the first floor was a little noise being close to the kitchen and over looking the road outside, with early morning delivers. However trips to beer gardens ensures a good nights sleep. Overall, recommended

Great location, within 10 minutes walk to Marienplatz. The staff could not have been more helpful. Two things and these are NOT complaints: Breakfast room is quite small, so breakfast was a bit congested. Our room was a very good size, but we shared a common wall with the lift. So we heard it going up and down. Not overly noisy, but we could hear it. We would definitely stay there again, if we go back to Munich. For the price, the location can non be matched.

Great location, just 50m or so from Sendlinger Tor U-bahn (Nussbaumstr exit) and easy 10-15 mins walk to Marienplatz and old city centre. (There's an office block forming an arch over the end of Pettenkoferstr so the street may not be immediately apparent). We had a very nice and typically Bavarian meal in Zum Franziskaner (from east side of the Rathaus, go up Dienerstr. 300m or so, past Schrammerstr.)

The Hotel met my standards. Cleanliness was ok. Breakfast was nice, too. If you are looking for quietness you have to ask for rooms going to the back-yard. It seems that I had a non-smoking room but unfortunately you still could smell the smoke from previous times through carpets and curtains. Located absolutely central with excellent connection to public traffic and touristic sites.

We are a family of four who stayed at the Bristol for two evenings in March of 2009. We had one double room and one room with two twin beds. The rooms were adequate and clean as were the bathrooms and the common areas. The reception staff was accommodating and generally pleasant. The hotel is convenient to Marianplatz which was important to us since we were on vacation. If you are driving and not familiar with the area getting to the hotel could be a challenge. Fortunately we had a GPS that guided us without too much difficulty, the parking garage is small and somewhat difficult to navigate especially if you’re driving and intermediate to full size car. Due to very loud street noise we changed our double room on the second night. The nature of my business necessitated Internet access, which is one of the reasons I chose the Bristol hotel. Internet is slow, bordering on non existent (a speed test indicated 512kbs, considering the hotel advertises Internet connectivity this is bordering on misrepresentation). Breakfast was rather extensive although the servers were not overly accommodating or friendly. If you need access to Marianplatz, are not driving an intermediate to full size car, don’t care about street noise, and Internet connectivity is not important this would probably be a good choice for you.

The bathroom was the best we had our whole 2 1/2 week vacation around Europe. But noisy. Wow was it noisy. There is a restauarant next door and it sounded like the people were in the room with us. It wasn't even a main street but I woke up a number of times a night by the noise outside.

It was my second stay at Hotel Bristol. Unfortunately the room at the first floor is not so quite as the ones at the top floor. But the hotel is great anyway :)

this was a good value and very clean hotel. We had our three children with us and it was good for them too. it was not in the heart of the town but it took only one metro stop to get to marionplatz (spelling?). The breakfast was very good also. i recommend this hotel.

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. It was just what the information and photos said it would be. Excellent location. Free internet. Good breakfast. Nice employees. I had no trouble with noise. The single rooms are in the back of the hotel, and the doubles are in the front.

Perfectly located hotel if you are 'doing' Munich. Within 10 minute walking distance of the city center, but shops all the way so it will take longer. Everyone compliments this hotels breakfast and I am no exception. Christmas day morning breakfast even included smoked salmon and Champagne, a nice unexpected touch. I would definitely stay at the Bristol again.

The hotel is excellently located, both with respect to the city centre (it is in the centre in fact) and to the airport. You take the suburban train from the airport to the city centre (40 minutes), change once to the underground train (one stop), and when you get out of the station, you are less than a hundred metres from the hotel. Remember, though, that going back to the airport, you can only buy train tickets from machines at the station close to the hotel, so you may need som advice from hotel staff about how to go about it. The hotel as such is smallish but very nice. The showers are of the bathtub/curtain type i.e. not very spacious but ok. Breakfast is plentiful and included in the price. The breakfast room is a bit on the small side. Marienplatz - the heart of the city with a wonderful Christmas market in December - is only about 10-15 minutes' walk from the hotel. People who are sensitive to street noise might want a room high up in the building, not facing the street; ours was on the first floor facing the street and there were a few sirens passing by, but no big problem as far as we are concerned. If you want a reasonably priced hotel in the central area of Munich, this is it.

I've been here for several times. It's good as price/quality for short stay in Munich when you are travelling alone or in a couple.

This was a group of seven women all of whom loved the hotel, the location, the cleanliness, the very substantial breakfast. The readily available gluh wine in the lobby was a lovely touch and very welcome. So convenient to the centre. Will stay there again when we return to Munich.

The hotel is very conveniently located next to the metro (literally, steps away) but suprisingly, my room, though street-facing, was quiet (maybe the time of year). Hauptbanof & Marienplatz are about 1.0-1.5 mile walk away & photos on website are pretty accurate (though picture of room is slightly more posh-looking than real-life). Staff are friendly, knowledgeable & speak English. Breakfast was great. Comfortable bed. Bathroom smelled slightly of mildew (probably from shower curtain) but otherwise clean. Decent value (89 euros) & roomy for a single. Good booking for one night or as a home-base for day-tripping.

This is another Rick Steves recommendation in his books and again he really hits the nail on the head. The staff are helpful, the rooms adequately appointed. The breakfast is outstanding. I enjoyed being walking distance from both the U-Bahn as well as Marienplatz. I would encourage anyone considering a visit to Munich to stay here.

Great location! Very good price to quality ratio. Perfect for short stays when you want to make the most of your sightseeing and night life. For those interested: very close to the gay district (dozens of bars/clubs/restaurants).

this hotel is in a good location but is way over priced for the standard it reaches. We stayed in several other hotels in large cities which were sometimes half the price but many times the quality.

The Bristol was in a great location, conveniently located near a subway stop and a quick walk from Marienplatz and the pedestrian shopping streets. The staff at the reception desk were very helpful. The hotel was very clean and the rooms were reasonable size. The room price was reasonable for what we got prior to Oktoberfest but the rate during Oktoberfest was double and I don't think our room was worth that price (but all hotel rates were increased during the Oktoberfest time...a rip off but you don't have much choice). The breakfast was good, the room it is served in is small. I would recommend the hotel to a friend going to Munich. We stayed in 2 different rooms because we were there at different times...the only unusual thing the second time was a toilet that kept flushing and wouldn't stop...but eventually it would stop after attempting to stop it (weird).

In hot weather, with the windows open, the sounds from the cafe directly below the windows are extremely loud and make it almost impossible to sleep.

Good hotel and excellent breakfast but spoiled by noise from cafe below, i.e. loud chat and hysterical laughter, every night until 00.30 hrs. One night woken at 3.15 am by more chatter and laughter lasting for at least 10 minutes. Otherwise, fine.

Stayed here Sept. 2008. Room was suitable and clean. Latch on bathroom door was broken and it wouldn't stay shut. We only stayed one night so I can't say how responsive they would have been to repair it. Staff spoke excellent English and was very helpful. Great locataion next to Underground stop and walking distance to city center. As others noted, it's on a busy street and can be noisy at night/morning with the windows open. And with no AC, the windows were open. Kind of expensive at 179 euro/night.
