Our first room was noisy: on the 1st floor looking on to a busy street and we didn't sleep well, but the next day we were moved to a lovely quiet room at the back of the hotel. The breakfast is magnificent - dozens of type of bread and pastries, hot and cold savouries, great coffee, fresh orange juice. The staff were most helpful. We borrowed good bicycles for the day, free.

Car parking in small backyard: very problematic, to be reached via the narrow backside street, crammed with parked cars and--in my case--blocked by a delivery truck; hotel staff did not ensure free access; hotel surrounding: socially deprived area, strip bars etc.

The Astor Hotel is marked as a four star hotel, but I think the right number of stars should 3. Anyway, it's clean, cheap (for Munich)and is a very convenient: close to the station and the ring. From this hotel you can reach Munich down-town in ten minutes on foot. Breakfast is outstanding.

Staff was friendly and competent. Beds comfortable. A little noise from the courtyard, but acceptable. Breakfast was very delicious. Easy walk into the old town Munich.

The managament was particularly attentive and nice when we arrived early. The manager offered immediately to store our baggage and then invited us to breakfast, on the house. The breakfast was fantastic! We went walking after that and when we returned, the manager had taken our bags to our rooms. We were completely pleased with the hotel and its staff.

I can't imagine staying anywhere but the Astor on our next trip to Munich. The Breakfasts were SPECTACULAR. It was sort of fun being right next door to a "strip joint". My only suggestion is that they provide anti-slip mats for the shower.

Hotel is just a few blocks from the train station. Easy to get everywhere and close to subway, Christmas markets, art museums. Wonderful breakfast: breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, fruit, eggs, bacon, salad. They had just about everything. I read another review before booking this hotel that warned about the X-rated neighborhood. It's not a red light district but there is a stripper show right next to the hotel. Some street noice in the wee hours of the morning, but not too disturbing. Front desk staff were very knowledgable and helpful about finding shops and sights. Our bath was a small square tub that forced you had to sit cross-legged. Had a wonderful time. Visited the Christmas markets, art museums, and shopped. Oh, yes, and we took a tour bus to Neuschwanstein Castle, and a day trip by train to Salzburg. I recommend both.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone because we could not rest and sleep well any of four nights we stayed there. The reason is that beside of the hotel there is an Erotic Club with shows EVERY DAY until 6am and from our room we could hear the music very aloud. The breackfast was quite good and complete. Cleanliness: We stayed four nights and one day they did not clean the room.

Great little hotel, great staff. Views are lacking somewhat but it's an urban hotel. The area is ... interesting... I felt quite safe and there are tons of places nearby to shop and eat. Highly recommend!

It is a good and clean structure, but it isn't a 4-stars hotel! Not a lot of services, the hotel is located near 2 nights and has old-time rooms. The price is gorgeus, but the level is a medium 3-star hotel.

This is an excellent hotel. My experience began with a welcome from staff that knew who I was before I identified myself, continued with a room that was spacious and clean, and included coffee in the lobby. The hotel is walking distance to the train station and the shopping area. I highly recommend a stay here.

This was a very nice experience. I arived very early in the morning, so the room was not vacant yet. Staff offered to bring up the luguage as soon as the room was ready. I was also offered breakfast for free om my day of arrival. Breakfast was very nice! Room was clean. The hotel area is near the main trainstation.

The hotel is fine. The PROBLEM is that it is in the middle of a terrible neighborhood --- three blocks of cheap sex joints, topless bars, etc.. The Venere website gave no indication of this --- only a photo of the front of the hotel. You must tell your customers particularly if they are traveling with children!!! It turns out there were comparably priced hotels in the same general area but away from these three blocks.

Nice spacious clean room with bath and shower, overlooking large yard. Very quiet on this side. Staff was very helpful. Breakfast was excellent and starts early so you can still manage to have breakfast if you leave for an early excursion. Very close to 3 train stations, closer than it looks like on maps. Also ordered meals in our room at no extra charge. Surrounding shops not what one would wish for, but not at all a problem. Area seemed very safe. A supermarket and laundry round the corner. Free internet access at reception.

We stayed here one night as a layover between cities on our trip. It's a very short walk (roughly 2-3 blocks) to the train station-- super convenient. As everyone said, the surrounding area is somewhat questionable at first glance, but it ended up being fine. We walked around past sunset and felt safe. The hotel itself is in between two strip clubs and looks like it might be a bit shady itself, at first, but inside was really nice, our room was fairly big and very clean. The furnishings were pretty new and the whole effect was rather nice. The breakfast is expansive, so come hungry!!! Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would stay again. By the way--we asked for a room in the back of the hotel, away from the street; they were happy to accommodate, and we didn't hear any street noise.

Our first night on our 3 week trip to Munich, Germany, Austria & Italy started at the Hotel Astor. The hotel was great, walking distance from the train station and close to the Munich city walk tour. There are lots of good eating places around the hotel. Employees all spoke English and were very helpful & friendly. They had free internet complete with a computer for the guests in the lobby of the hotel. The room was very clean and had everything that we needed, like a hair dryer, shower cap, etc. The breakfast was the best breakfast we had on our trip. It included fresh fruit & fruit juices, coffee, tea, milk, cereal, nuts, pastries, breads, chesses, salmon, lunch meats, bacon, sausage, eggs(boil & scrambled), etc. With a breakfast like that all we needed is one meal at the end of the day. We paid 80.00 Euros each night (April 30 & May 1/08). Fantastic place and excellent value.

My wife and I (from USA) stayed at the Hotel Astor for 4 days in November 07. This hotel is an excellent deal. The room was very clean, the bath/shower excellent, and the beds provided a good night's rest. The breakfast was unsurpassed in any hotel we've stayed at in Europe (about 6 countries). Having read the reviews, some people take exception to the neighborhood. My advice: you won't find trouble in this neighborhood unless you're looking for it. If you want a nicer location, pick the Hilton up on the Franz Josef Strasse and pay accordingly.

Hotel was perfect for the price and within waking distance from the train station and the pedestrian zone. Very helpful and friendly staff took care of all our questions and needs. The room was a bit small but clean and safe, which is all we had hoped for. The best part was the breakfast. Wide variety spread and very good; much better than any other place we stayed by far. I would definitly go back here when staying in Munich.

This was an ok stay. It was very close to the train station which was great for us but we think the area was a bit seedy. It was a resonable walk to all the attraction which were across the other side of the main shopping centre. The breakfast was great and was included in the price. Be careful of which days you plan to be here and what you want to do as not all trips or attractions are open or on every day. We had a Sunday and Monday and this was very limiting. This is probably the same for most places so just be aware of this when making your trip plans.

Excellent hotel. Clean, comfortable, welcoming, with great breakfast.. The only bad point for some people will be the location, which is very convenient (5mins walk from station and 10 mins walk from the centre), but rather down-market, with a lot of striptease and lap-dance clubs etc... not very refined, but the area still feels quite safe.

Great location near the main train station. It is a red light area, but didn't feel that it was dangerous at all. The staff were super friendly. My sister came up to visit us in Munich and they arranged for an extra bed in the room at a cost of 25 euros which was very good. Breakfast was lovely.

A very clean hotel with nice staff and a perfect quality to price ratio: for 75 Euros I've got a very good room with everything (TV, Radio/CD player) and a clean, freshly refurbished bathroom bathroom. The breakfast served in the morning started from 6:30 (!) and will satisfy anyone.
