We arrived to check in and were told that our room and a few others had been flooded due to a plumbing issue. Despite there being a few dozen keys hanging on the hooks behind the reception desk we were told we were to be moved to a very nice hotel across the road, the only hotel with any vacancies apparentely. This 'hotel' turned out to be a 2 star alternative that must be close to hostel accomodation. The hotel was very energy efficient as it had barely any light to see our way up the winding staircase, the room itself was a semi decent size, it had a lovely view of a nearby brick wall and to top it off the door didnt manage to fit the door frame, therefore we had what light there was in the hallway shining through our room during the night. Maybe next time the Royal Hotel should look to moving their guests to something of equal or a higher standard then there own hotel. Other than that it was a delightful stay.

Central location close to everything yet very quiet with double glazing on windows onto the street.

Make use of the excellent tram-bus system. Day train trips to Sele and Nimes worth taking.

There is nothing wrong with the Royal Hotel. It is just bland and without charm (part of a large chain - Best Western). The bathroom was spacious and well appointed. The beds were not especially comfortable, and the reception was perfunctory on one occasion, non-communicative bordering on gruff on the other. It was very close to the railwy station, but not seedy, as such locations sometimes are, being half way between the station and the central ("Opera") part of town. Good place to stay if you have an early train to catch and aren't worried about luxury or charm. It did seem a bit over-priced compared to other hotels offering more. But it's just about location, location, location really.

Ok stay, but feels poorer than advertised. Overpriced for what it is. Room was smallish, without an easy chair in which to relax, read, or watch TV. Breakfast buffet was good. Walking distance from the TGV station was a good point. People cominf by car have a problem with parking. All in all OK, but will still try to find something better in Montpellier next time.

it was not specified that breakfast was not included in the price, our room was at ground floor beside the street, so noisy, and also noise from other rooms. It is not possible to go there by car as the street is closed to cars, you have to go to a parking near to it (300 mt) but it is not specified in the web site

Lovely hotel in a terrific location. Day and evening staff were wonderful; friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable. My room overlooked the shops and the street, so there was some noise, but I didn't find it to be disturbing. I loved the view! would choose this hotel again.

The staff was very friendly and helped wherever they could; they anticipated my needs (taxi, invoicing). There was always somebody available at the frontdesk and ready to help. The room was very tastefully decorated, huge bathroom and overall pleasant atmosphere, good breakfast and excellent location in the centre of Montpellier. I hope to come back!

The only good thing is location. The room is terrible, completely different from a photo of the hotel introduction, especially bathroom. There were insects and dirty. 96 euro is too much.

A great location handy for the station but also five minutes from the centre, the staff were all very friendly and helpful, it was good value for money.

There are pros and cons with this hotel: Pros- it is within a 5-7 minutes on foot from the railway station and within 3-4 minutes from the main square-Place de la Comedie. Pros- the staff in the evening and in the morning was friendly and helpful in answering my questions and letting me keep my suitcase locked downstairs for an hour after checking out. The room was spacious enough with a bathroom and separate room for the toilet. The lobby and hallways were beautifully decorated. Cons- when I arrived, the staff first could not find my reservation in their computer system, it was resolved, though, within about 10-15 min. because they had a spare room. Also what I found strange was that the price on venere was 65 euros-single while walking-in price was 56 euros-room with a shower. From my experience the price is either the same or sometimes even lower when the room is booked weeks ahead of time over the internet. The room was clean but one of the bedside lights did not work, there was no thin blanket as part of the bedding and there were no glasses in the bathroom. For one night it was not a big issue, I would have requested that something be done about it had I been staying longer. For the price there should be more attention to these details. There are two other hotels across from it but not on the venere website. With more attention to details in the room, with reservations and pricing, it would be a better hotel to stay in. After all, Montpellier with its whitewashed buildings, palm trees, small streets in the centre and friendly people is a nice city to visit.

If the hotel had told us that we needed to park in the Comedy underground parking lot, we would have found it immediately and that would have been great. As it turned out, it took over an hour of driving around the city to figure out how to get to the hotel. We ended up staying in our same clothes because it was too dificult to get our suitcases to the hotel from the car. The hotel itself was just fine, very comfortable. The breakfast was good. It has a nice expresso machine. The restaurants in the city center, just a block away, are wonderful. Music and lights and a carousel, I loved Montpellier!

The Royal hotel is a short walk from the rail station(go down stairs from the entrance, exit on the opposite side and you are two short blocks from the hotel)The hotel is in walking distance to many attractions in Montpellier. We were very impressed by the architecture and design in the Antigone area of urban renewal

We (Couple around 50 years old) recommend this hotels as it is only a 200 meters steps away both from the TGV-train-station Montpellier and the medieval town centre. The hotel has been refurbished and the 3 stars are adequate. We had room 117 leading to the back road. A room leading to the main road with the tramway is maybe more noisy.

This was everything that the Web site said it would be. Stay in the back of the hotel for relative quiet. The staff was excellent -- friendly and helpful. The location is wonderful, unless you're renting a car. The accommodations are exactly as advertised. Not posh, but very good for a hotel of this level. I stayed here for a week and would return given the opportunity.

Lovely hotel situated very central, walking distance from railway, tram lots of nice restaurants and shops. From outside the historic character was kept and the inside adequately modern. Rooms are comfortable and clean and air conditioning worked well. Good breakfast, great coffee and excellent value for money. Lobby has a great information corner on tourist attractions and transport.

The place is very central for the train station, car hire ect. Good for one or two nights stay. They are still doing a refurb & I think its a bit of a DIY job! I would recommend it as good value & clean.

Problem to reach the hotel by car. There is no car park available for the customer. The nearest park is around 300m form the hotel. Breakfast was not included in the price. To this the breakfast buffet was not complet (price/quality => poor).

At the moment of our stay the hotel was under refurbishment. Therefore it was a bit noisy during the morning hours. (hammering) Breakfirst was not included in the price, as promised on the website. Everything else was very convinient. We had a nice stay.

A very friendly welcome. The hotel was undergoing major refurbishment, (in month of January), and we had to change rooms after two nights as the work ran ahead of schedule. This caused us no serious inconvenience. Both rooms , and especially the wc/showers, were very safisfactory. We would strongly recommend the small cafe opposite for a good, modestly-priced continental breakfast.

Don't be fooled by the poor carpets as you approach your room, the hotel is still rennovating. Our double room with shower was quiet and more than a couple needs. The breakfast is as good as you need for a hotel of this range. We found the position very good for the railway station. If you had a car, then it is a small issue.

The hotel staff were extremely helpful and the town was absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed our stay very much. Our room faced the main street so it was noisy with the windows open. (Our stay was in late July)

I stayed in Hotel Royal in july 2004 and found the staff welcoming - in order to start on a positive note. However my single room was very small and there was a very unpleasant smell in the room - like the smell of a "sour" (not sure how to spell that). To end on a positive note as well - the bath room was very nice.

It was hot. It was very hot! The air conditioning was not working, or if it was, it wasn't able to drop the temperature below 29 deg. during the night. No other cooling systems were provided, altough requested. The bath had no curtins or other system to avoid flooding the toillet. The bath acessories (soap, shampoo, etc.) had been used by others. Three persons were in the room, but only toals for two were in the bathroom. No parking place (there is one public parking near). No indications how to reach the hotel. Had to search for it, using MAP24. On the other end, the room was very large, big enough for four persons. Venere web booking services - five stars.

Excellent location, just a few steps away from the train station and the center of the city. We first got an uncleaned room but it was no problem changing it. The price of the room was lower (!) than quoted in the reservation.

Very basic hotel, but in a perfect location for visiting montpellier town centre. We was'nt for warned that it was undergoing renovation. And our room was located next to lift shaft!! So NOISY!!

The hotel was even better than advertised. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only misunderstanding was that your confirmation note stated that the price included breakfast. This was not so, as is usual in French hotels, and we accepted. But some of your clients might create a problem for the kind staff by demanding that they honour that agreement. In our case it would have saved us 48 euros - worth arguing over if you are that way inclined.

The hotel is in a good location for exploring Montpellier and also close to the station and tram stops. Rooms were clean, spacious and quiet but basic. Decor was a bit depressing. Staff were friendly enough but not overly attentive - we had to request an extra pillow three times.
