Nice and relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings near interesting historical places

Although the food in the restaurant of Borgo San Luigi wasn't bad, we had hoped for something more gastronomical. We went to have lunch in Monteriggioni at Il Pozzo, that was much better. We would have gone more often, but we were by bicycle and limited our freedom a bit. Note that our mode of transport was bicycle (all the way from Avignon)

The double de luxe room was OK but the "double single use" room was around 10 m3, with a 90 cm large bed, the bathroom very small too, with a 1 meter long bath, a torned shower curtain, missing tiles on the walls. As I refused to stay in such a room, which didn't comply with the 4 star hotels' standards, I was shown a room twice as large, for the same price, with a queen size bed.So be carefull !!! The hotel is very difficult to find, even with a detailed map of Tuscany as it is located along a unpaved road and not indicated at each crossroad.

This was a wonderful place & pictures do not even do it justice. The staff at the restaurant were not friendly. However, we met friendly tourists.

This property is well-suited for families with children because of the pool and large front/backyard. A lot of well-shaded grass to run and play on in the summer. Unfortunately, the quality of the room was substandard for a four-star place. Bathroom had dirty ceiling, electric wiring all over above the mirror, dead TV, stuck door knob, etc. Breakfast was the usual in Toscana. I believe Castel Bigozzi, which is nearby in Strove, is a much more pleasant place to stay, and it is cheaper than a suite in San Luigi.

We had reserved a room with garden but only got a small room without garden. The manager offered to trat us with a champagne (with his apologies), however the champagne never came. THe bathroom and sheets were dirty and most of the personnel did not speak english.

The Borgo San Luigi was a little expensive, but a very nice place and very luxurious. A splurge that we were glad we made. The help is very well trained and very well mannered. The food was excellent and the dining rooms beautiful. The grounds were really nice. We would highly recommend this as a stay close to Sienna. We stayed in a garden cottage, so could not comment on the rooms in the main building. Our bathroom was really nice.

A very pleasant three days. We particularly liked the restaurant and pool area. The only downside - the very primitive approach road!

A great hotel, set on a large estate. An excellent restaurant. All staff very helpful.

Wonderful! Beautiful surroundings and facilities, everything was great. Give yourself plenty of time in the restaurant for meals, however.

We had a huge suite during our stay. The bed was upstairs in a loft, while the main floor had a couch, two large chairs, a dining table with four dining chairs, a TV, a small kitchen, and a large bathroom. I was sick our first day there, so was not really in the mood to go out. We called down to the front desk to see if it would be possible to order room service. The attendant at the front desk brought a menu up to our room and took our order down to the restaurant. Our food came up fairly quickly. It was a bit more expensive than we were expecting, but given my condition at the time, I was grateful to have this option available to us. The location of the hotel is pretty remote and secluded. It was very quiet (except for the kids screaming in the room next door, which we could hear very clearly from our bed up in the loft area) for the most part. The staff was always very helpful with any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again when we return to the area.

We could not have been happier with our stay at Borgo San Luigi. It was perfect for our purposes, which were to get away and relax from an incredibly stressful work and family care life in the States. The place was exactly as, or actually better than, it looked in the Web pictures (we were there off season - for nine days in October), plenty of room, lots of character, and really beautiful and spacious grounds (my wife even braved the pool in Oct. -- we lucked out on the weather - it was supposed to rain the whole week, but in fact we had only a couple of days of damp and cold and the rest was beautiful). The staff were just super - particularly Douglas (an American expatriate) and Francesca. They gave us a wide choice of rooms within our price range (not crowded in Oct.) all for the same good deal Venere price (they even added a day at the same price), and we tried a couple before settling on one we loved. Douglas really went beyond the call - helping us get the treadmill in the exercise room going (we seem to have been the first ones to want to use it in quite a while - and it was essential given the quality of the food, both at the Borgo and in Siena, Monteriggioni, and Colle d Val d'Esta, all nearby). He also helped with car starting and tire replacement, along with his porter staff/colleagues, necessary because of the incompetence of his clients, -- no problem was too difficult for them, so we were deliriously happy and well served. The grounds are beautiful, as, of course, is all of Tuscany within reach outside of them. The meals at Borgo are fine - no need to go outside, but it would be foolish to miss what else is around (including, nearby, Arnolfo in Colle - expensive, but Wow!). Just don't try to find one end or the other of Colle Alto (the old town) at night for the first time - do a trial run in daylight ! Oh, and the resident dog - Lui (i.e. "him" in Italian) - is charming. Try it all!

Character room and beautiful surroundings. Food and service were excellent. Hope to return one day.

Location and rooms were excellent. The service except Reception was not very good. Just 2 waiters were speaking englisch. Breakfast was horrible - to less (e.g. eggs run out - no refill done) and no good quality food. Dinner was good but in no relation to the price. After 3rd day no full breakfast we went off a day earlier as usually planned.
