We loved this place. Sure it is a short/steep hike to town but earns you the privilege to eat more great food ! If you are not in good health or have limitations for the walk to the town center, this is not the place for you unless you drive to one of the main gates and then explore the own on foot. It is a great place to saty to explore surrounding hill towns. We loved our room ; great breakfast; very friendly, helpful staff/owners....

Our stay was lovely. Very quiet location, and only a five minute walk to the ''centro storico'' . We arrived exhausted from our overnight flight and drive from Rome, and were warmly welcomed. Our host served us cappuccino in the garden upon arrival. We were given a good recommendation for dinner and reservations were made for us. A very good breakfast buffet was served in the small dining room. All in all, a perfect start to our Tuscany vacation! I would recommend highly.

Great hotel at rural edge of town. Thursday market was just up the street a block away. Couple of blocks uphill to enter town (we drove) and ate just inside the gates at a local restaurant the hotel recommended - twice, it was that good! Owners arranged a great wine tour with good directions to find the vineyard.

As part of a driving tour around Tuscany we stayed at Il Rondo for three nights in June 2009. The hotel is set in a quiet area (previously orchard?)in easy walking distance from the entrance gate to Montepulciano and has easy access to the other lovely villages such as Pienza, Montalcino, Cortona etc.It is an excellent base for visting this beautiful area of Italy. The owners are very friendly and couldn't do enough to make us welcome.Rooms, food, service and value for money is excellent.

Il Rondo was hard to find, but the out-of-the-way location added to its charm. Our room was clean, quiet, and beautifully decorated. We stayed for five nights, wished we could stay longer, and will return if we ever have the chance. We have nothing but praise for the host, food, and surroundings. We recommend Il Rondo highly.

We had a wonderful four day stay with Amerigo and Vanna at Hotel Il Rondo. They were simply delightful hosts, and Amerigo was so helpful in suggesting places to eat in Montepulciano and in helping us plan appropriate one day trips using Il Rondo as our base. He even served as our intermediary after we received a parking citation in Montalcino due to our lack of understanding of "pay and display," actually taking our ticket to the post office and paying it for us to save us the hassle. What a wonderful host! Vanna serves a delicious breakfast every morning in a lovely breakfast room. We loved the setting of the hotel, within walking distance of Montepulciano but in a very quiet and private location. We had located this hotel from the internet after reading many positive customer reviews, and can only add our own: we would recommend this to anyone 100%. When we left, we felt we had made two new friends.

The only reason I gave the hotel a "5" for surroundings is that it is in the middle of an industrial area. Nevertheless, the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. He greeted us with hot tea in the bar area. The grounds were well manicured and full of beautiful flowering plants and trees. The hotel itself was very quaint and homey. The only reason we would not stay there again is the location; it is just far enough outside of Montepulciano to be inconvenient. The walk into town was manageable but we had to take a taxi to San Biagio.

Ci ritornerei sicuramente.

This is a wonderful B&B! It is family run and they are so nice and helpful (they lent us their umbrella when we got stuck in the rain). The husband and wife don't really speak English, but the son does and he was around during the day. The breakfast was great; typical of what you'll find at an Italian B&B. The official gate to Montepulciano is a bit of a hike from the hotel, about 10 minutes up steep hills. We had a rental car and drove there and parked with no trouble (we were there in mid-April). The room was large with a big bathroom and closet. It was VERY quiet, since it is an isolated location. It's easy to get in and out of if you have a rental car and are exploring the area, although tough to find at first (bring a map!!) I recommend it for travelers looking for a quiet, clean hotel room.

It was a perfect place for visiting Montepulciano. You can walk up to town in less than 10 minutes (if you can't, then bring your tennis rackets and work out on the public courts right behind the villa). The hosts were charming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh fruit salad and - I was there at the right season - fresh figs from their own trees. Tea or drinks in the garden.

This was our second stay at Il Rondo. The first time my husband and I went for a romantic wine-tasting trip and it was the perfect location. The owners were so welcoming so we returned with my family and stayed in 2 triple rooms with large bathrooms. The owner offered us great recommendations for eating and allowed us to sit outside in the garden for an appetizer and later a glass of grappa! It is a fantastic family place or a romantic getaway. Thanks so much!! We will be back.

Perfect B&B with most hospitable owners. Appreciated the free car parking on premises. Loved the home made food on the breakfast buffet, which included fresh fruit salad, omelette, cake, breads and cappucino! Admittedly the property is located a 10 min walk up steep hill to the town centre, but for a fit young couple like us it didn't matter at all - we walked it twice in one day. It was nice to be staying slightly away from the town centre in this little oasis, where the owners have kept a beautifully tidy house and garden. Out of the 5 properties we stayed at in Tuscany, this was probably the best in terms of comfort, homeliness and value for money. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

Our first and favourite b and b in Italy, wonderful grounds, an easy walk to the supermarket to buy goodies for lunch alfresco at Il Rhondo, provided breakfast was the best anywhere on our 6 week holiday to Italy and France. Beautiful bed and breakfast type hotel close to old town of Montepulciano, although not really within walking distance. We had a car, so was not a problem. Wonderful scenery on the way to hotel. A short walk -- downhill -- from the bus station, so it was very easy to get to. Even with luggage, the walk back up to the bus station was not bad. The rest of the town is above the buses, but if the walk up is too daunting, there is a shuttle which will take you to the top. We liked the walk up through town nicer since that means you appreciate the views and the glass of wine at the top all the more. The gardens around the rooms very lovely, the owners obviously put a lot of care into them. Very nice to relax in between touristing during the day and getting dinner.

Charming little hotel just outside of the hilltop town of Montepulciano. The hosts were nice and the breakfast offered was our best in Italy! Beautiful gardens outside to enjoy a morning coffee or evening drink. The hike up the hill to town gets you some exercise but isn't for the faint of heart. This was our favorite place on our trip. The new facility was immaculate and well decorated. The hosts, Amerigo and Vanna, were wonderful. Breakfasts were abundant. The uphill hike to the town was a bit much for us, so we drove to a town lot, which was not a problem. The directions to the hotel were poor, so it was hard to find at first. Once found, it's easy: Left at the first round-about, next right, left at the next round-about(which is not much of a round-about. The bus station is on the corner). Il Rondo is at the bottom of the hill with adequate signage. We considered putting in a bad review to keep this gem quiet, but couldn't. It was wonderful.

Decor was a little too 'country' for us, lot of pinks and the scented potpurri was way too strong for our tastes. Staff was nice, very informal, and we were not even sure the first person who greeted us actually worked at the property. The son spoke very good english; the parents spoke little. But they kindly let us use their computer for a few minutes to check email. Breakfast was good and they served quite possibly the best tasting cappuccino we had all trip. Bathroom in room was very large and spacious with nice soaps. Free parking was nice, location was close, but still a hike up hills to get to downtown.

What a pleasant surprise. This family owned and operated B&B was the cleanest place we stayed in in over 30 days in Italy. Fortunately we speak enough Italian to get by as the staff do not speak very much but this is more than made up for by their genuine concern and fussiness about keeping this little gem spotless. We didn't even want to bring back panini for a snack because we felt like we were at Zia Marie's and didn't want to dirty anything, but that doesn't take anything away. Breakfast was excellent and the sitting areas were charming and what else can you say about Montepulciano. Stay away, don't go there. We want to come back and don't want all you tourists ruining the place. It was one of our high spots.

Canada, Oct 2007
The photographs don't do this place justice. The rooms and grounds are beautiful. There's no noise from the street or other rooms, so it was very restful. The breakfast and cappuccino are top-notch. It's a quick 150-metre walk to the bus station, where you can catch frequent buses to and from nearby towns, or just hop the little orange shuttle to the top of the town. (Since Montepulciano is built on a hill, the shuttle saves some strenuous hiking.) The hotel is on a quiet country lane facing an olive grove, great for after-dinner strolls. The hosts speak almost no English, so be prepared to be self sufficient in finding your way around. They are polite, but not what I would call friendly. Most annoying of all, whomever cleaned our room kept moving our stuff around, as if we hadn't put it in the proper place and they were correcting us. It almost felt like they were saying "We're letting you stay here but this is our house, don't mess it up." I'm not used to having maids rearrange my toiletries, luggage and clothing. Anyway, that's a minor beef. Overall, this is a wonderful property, and I'd go back in a heartbeat. I would not recommend this property for people who aren't up for a bit of a walk -- do yourself a favour and stay at Il Meuble Ricci or somewhere right in the heart of town.

Our two night accomodations were charming & wonderful in spite of a real climb/hike into the center of town - we actually left our car at the B&B and welcomed the exercise since we ate so much of the fabulous food. Do not drive to the top of the town unless you like working your clutch on steep hills. This was one of our favorite stops-the town is charming and the people friendly. The pizza was great as well as the full dinners. Local wines were outstanding----a favorite was Banfi Brunello-a must try!!

Il Rondo was our favorite of the three Venere hotels we stayed in on our trip. The view from our room was spectacular. Our hosts, Vanna and Amerigo, picked us up at the bus station and made us feel like long lost cousins during our stay. Their property was beautiful and lovingly cared for. Vanna even cut roses from the yard to put in our room. The main center of Montepulciano was a short hike from the hotel, but either straight up or down.It is an extremely charming hill town, beautiful views of the countryside, lovely ancient churches and buildings. The Il Rondo was outstanding in every way! The staff/owners husband (Amerigo)speaks some English, Vanna (wife) no English, Nicolo (son) speaks English well - all are extremely helpful and friendly - they went out of their way to make our visit the best. The breakfast was excellent. The rooms are beautifully appointed - better than the pictures on line - large, clean, nice linens, towels are better than excellent, bath is large and everything looks new and shiny. We loved the property - lots of flowers around the hotel in an olive grove. It was quiet. It was a 10 minute walk to the gate of Montepulciano. There are many excellent restaurants in town - we loved it. Everything was so well done that we had to give them 10s for every category. We felt that they had really thought through everything that a guest might need.

We went to Il Rondo on the basis of previous reviewers comments and were not disappointed. Although not ideally located for disabled/elderly guests wanting to see Montepulciano, for all others it is only a 10 minute (stiff uphill)walk into the old town. The tranquil setting, excellent welcome and lovely surroundings more than compensated for the walk -and provided a free parking spot for the length of our stay. The room was spotless and well furnished, with a large bright bathroom and breakfasts were generous and varied. Thoroughly recommended!

This is a wonderful hotel and represents outstanding value for money. The rooms and hotel were elegently furnished and kept in the highest possible order. The proprieters could not have been more welcoming, and after 10 days we had been made to feel part of the family. Their son Niccolo often acted as go-between and helped our limited grasp of the language, and was around often enough to make sure all was OK. Their care was thorough but discreet enough not to be intrusive. The grounds are superb and allow for private relaxation at the end of a day's exploration. The town is no more than 10 minutes walk away but rather steep. However this does make for an easy walk back at the end of an afternnon's exploration or an evening's dining. It's a very interesting town with a lot of history. They have a great civic pride and, indeed, much to be proud of. It is also an excellent base with good access to the Autostrade and the railway to Florence or Rome at Chiusi. I could not recommend Montepulciano and Il Rondo more highly.

The owners, Amerigo and Vanna, along with their 2 sons were warm, very welcoming and as informative as they could be considering our language differences. My wife and I dined in two of the restaurants they suggested and thoroughly enjoyed those meals. Montepulciano and Il Rondo are centrally located among several lovely hill towns in Tuscany. The hotel was situated just outside the old town of Montepuliciano, but within walking distance (about 10 minutes). Unfortunately, we had some difficulties finding it as the road sign giving the directions was obscured by standing traffic. We ended up phoning Mr Amerigo and he came to our aid. The rooms at the Il Rondo are exceptionally beautiful. Large and tastefully decorated with spacious bathrooms. Every need is catered for with safe, mini fridge, tv and wireless internet point. Breakfast was very good with a plentiful selection of bread, pastries, yoghurt, fruit, ham and cheese. Situated in wonderfully maintained gardens they also provided secure parking. We would recommend this wonderful place to all.

We had a wonderful stay at IL RONDO. The room were very nicely decorated with tuscan antiques but with all the modern features: Wireless internet (free of charge), fridge, satelite TV and the garden was also lovely. But what made us love and recommend this place above all this is really the kindness and warmness of the owner family, the Amerigo's. They were like a family to us and we had a marvellous time there!! Although we just booked 2 days in our way to the south we decided to stay there again for extra 5 days because we felt so good. Switzerland, Jul 2006
We were travelling down Italy to Cicily with 2 kids. The owners were extremely friendly and helpfull, the place was very well maintained down to even little details. The town with it's restaurants is only a short walking distance away from the hotel (about 10 minutes by foot).
