Dei Capitani was a nice and clean hotel, with exceptional views of the valley from our room window. The hotel itself reflected its age, however was kept clean. But given the exceptional beauty of Montalcino itself, and it being such a historic town, one should not go with an expectation of getting any more modern amenities.

A nice hotel with a fantastic view. Splendid breakfast. God service for example to get us a taxi from a restaurant outside the town at night. OK with the parking places.

We stayed at the Capitani for one night- and could not have found a better location. It was very central and the views from both the room and the pool area was fantastic! The staff were friendly enough and answered any questions we had. The car park is tight, but we managed fine. The decor is somewhat tired and dated and would benefit from a makeover but we had a pleasant stay and would stay again if in Montalcino.

Bottom line; the staff was at best grudgingly helpful, and at worst arrogant and dismissive. Our family of three stayed four days and is not by any stretch of the imagination the “demanding Americans” that have been stereotyped. If anything, we appreciate how difficult dealing with a constant onslaught of tourists can be and act respectfully of hard working service people. The location is marvelous for views and centrally located (down a very steep Tuscan hill. It has a pool that was a major selling point for us. Montalchino is a marvelous, less tourist-oriented town with good, though not plentiful restaurants. The hotel is pleasant enough, standard breakfast with simple fare. The front staff is the sore point. They are either grossly underpaid or need to be in a non service oriented field. If you need absolutely no assistance, this hotel and it's beautiful location is for you. We would look for another hotel next time we visit.

Only negative was the lack of parking. Connect the public parking area to the street in front of the hotel and things would be fine. A walkway would do it.

We loved this adorable hotel. The location is wonderful and our small deck view of the Tuscan hills was outstanding. Breakfast (included) was served on the patio overlooking the valley and it too was lovely. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Hard to find, at end of town, down a steep steet. Parking lot was impossible to enter - 45' angle straight down. No parking on street, but left car there with key at desk and they moved it once, but no problems. Otherwise great little hotel, with a pool on the edge of a cliff. Close walking to great restaurants.

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Dei Capitani Montalcino. The hotel was of a very good standard, we received a warm welcome and it was as good, if not better than we expected. Parking was good - we were in a park right next to the Hotel (although if this is full you may need to park outside). The staff provided information for us on the area and were helpful when we wanted to know more. They gave us a map of Montalcino and also directed us to restaurants, which were all very good. The room had a gorgeous view of the panorama of the surrounding valley - pretty as a picture with rolling hills, cypress pines, typical tuscan farms and villas and winding, narrow roads and driveways. Breakfast was a typical, good Italian breakfast with plenty to choose from, including cereals, croissants, fruit, etc, etc. Coffee and service were excellent and the view from the breakfast room was exquisite. The main street and piazza in Montalcino is a short 2-5 min walk away (depending on how quickly you can walk up the very steep hill) but at least it's downhill back to your room after a heavy meal! Montalcino is a beautiful, authentic, friendly town well worth visiting. We would recommend the hotel as a good base to explore Montalcino and the surrounding area.

Parking is a great problem, although hotel tries very hard to accommodate. Noise level between rooms is loud. Need some padding on the walls or something to diffus the sounds. It would be nice to post a sign on the doors for people to keep noise level down after 1000pm. We enjoyed the location and your staff was extremely helpful.

The view from the hotel is extraordinary. Swimming in the hotel pool with a great view on the Val d'orcia is something really nice. From the hotel, it is easy to find good places to have dinner, and the reception staff can advise you some good ones.

We had a wonderful stay at Dei Capitani. The view from the guest rooms, dining room and terrace is breathtaking! The hotel's location on the edge of a cliff overlooking the vineyards provides a wonderful post-card view. I would recommend staying for more than one night so that you can take advantage of the pool and Tuscan sun in the most idyllic surrounding.

We had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking a beautiful view of the countryside, and of the pool area. The bed was comfortable, the room quiet and the breakfast very good. We arrived by bus and the hotel was conveniently located just a short walk down a hill from the bus stop. The town was very appealing and we enjoyed both the shops and exploring the town. No negatives at all for us.

Make sure you request a room with a view, the Tuscan countryside is spectacular. Sabina at the front desk was very helpful, recommended several good restaurants and even checked with a friend for the best route back to the Rome Airport. Spacious breakfast room and patio in back were a great place to enjoy the countryside over a bottle of wine. Free internet also great. Montalcino is a great little town and we would stay here again.

The views are beautiful - the pool area is very nice too. The room next door's toilet sounded like it was on top of my head when the toilet flushed.
