stayed for a 2 night short break, hotel was just what we wanted, great value, clean, good location, nothing special but everything we needed, and breakfast included in good value price, would happily stay there again, looks like they are expanding the place too. got train to lake como for the day, just 8 euros each for first class ticket, and walked 10 mins into town, a definite recomendation to do

Very confortable, clean and silent hotel. Friendly staff. Centrally located; you can walk to the major city attractions and points of interest (Duomo, Galleria Victorio Emanuelle, Via Monte Napoleone and luxury shopping areas, train station). Bookshops, supermarket and pharmacies also very close. I would surely recommend the property to friends, and would definitely stay there again if I ever go back to Milan.

È da diversi anni che frequento il Hotel Serena di Milano. È situato centralmente, vicino a stazione MM. Silenzioso e pulito.

The staff was wonderful, the room was clean and comfortable and would be a great value for the price if it weren't for the construction happening on the building, which we were unaware of at booking. The problem with this is the workers could (and would) look in our room window! and the banging started at 7am and lasted 'til 6pm, which is a problem if you have jet lag!!

Hotel was being renovated from the outside. But no working noise. Single room was very small and the TV didn't work properly. Service was friendly. Can't argue much about the price: 45 euro p. night.
Turkey, Apr 2009
Hotel Serena was the best hotel we stayed during our 11 day holiday in Italy. Although it has two stars the service provided was above my expectations. The staff can speak English very well. They welcomed us friendly. The room and its private bathroom were very clean and spacious. The location of the hotel is very near to Lima subway station and you can reach both Duomo and the railway station in 5-10 minutes. The neighbourhood is busy and safe but not disturbing. Breakfast was also very good. The only problem may be the fact that the hotel is being renovated and the sounds can be a problem for those who prefer to wake up late. The quality-price relationship must be one of the bests in Italy so I highly recommend this hotel.

Good value...Great location! Easy Metro transportation to central Milan attractions. Close to shopping strip...great restaurant right across the street. We're mid-sixties seniors that enjoy walking, so we walked to and from central Milan. Always felt safe, even at night. For us it was an easy 10 minute walk from the train station (Stazione Centrale) to the hotel.

Front desk was very nice and welcoming. A lot to be said especially for my first visit in Italy. However, the direction to this hotel is a bit off and in result, hard to find at night. Room was relatively clean and looked like quiet at first until more guests coming in, then it was hard to get back to sleep. Bathroom was okay. A nice update can definitely be used with the room. Bed wasn't comfortable to sleep in. Breakfast was good for selection and location as it was on a roof-top. Staffs working during breakfast can use a few more smiles, especially with non-native Italian speaker (like me).

Serena is a nice place with a friendly reception. The showers were kind of small, I'm 5'8" - 170lbs and whenever I moved in the shower, there would be a chance that I would knock the handle of the shower, either shutting off the shower, or hitting it and changing the temperature of the water. the rooms looked clean but I had an early flight and when I woke up, there were also some bug on the floor of the room, roach or something. However, the price was really cheap, and otherwise clean.

Hotel rooms were very clean but basic. Breakfast was excellent and overall service good. The restaurant recommended to us had good food but was the most disorganised I have ever been in and relatively expensive. Better rely on your guidebook for restaurants (we went to the 'Chandelier' nearby and had an excellent meal in stylish and unusual surroundings. The distance from Central Station is quite walkable unless you have very heavy luggage. Overall happy with the hotel and staff.

Very good place for a short city vacation!
Ireland, Dec 2008
I have stayed at this hotel several times because the location is excellent and the value for money is almost unbeatable. The only two areas that could do with a little improvement are the breakfast, some ham or cheese would be nice, and the noise outside the bedroom door early in the morning from the cleaners. I was near the lift and from about 6am I was constantly disturbed by the cleaner dragging plastic bags of linen and towels until I eventually got up at 7.30am as it was impossible to sleep. I think this is only a problem if you are in a room near the lift as on previous stays, when I haven't been near the lift, I haven't been disturbed. I must say that I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a budget hotel in a good location for shops and restaurants and not too far from the main station. There is also an excellent restaurant directly opposite the hotel.

The room was quite small for 4 beds (it was like a two-bedded room with 4 beds). The view from the room was awful but it was quite quiet. The bathroom was nice and clean. The breakfast room located on the top of the building had quite nice view and eating breakfast while watching sunrise was considerably pleasant. The food was tasty. The staff recommended us a restaurant in which we paid 20% more than we ordered, so i don't advise anyone to ask for restaurant recommendations :). The only unpleasant thing that happened to us in Milan was that one of us got pickpocketed in Milan metro, so a BIG advice: keep your wallet in safe place or avoid crowded metros...

Overall thought hotel was excellent and great value for money. Initially welcoming was not that great but I think it is more a cultural thing, perhaps milanese mentality / not too comfortable towards overseas english speaking tourists (I try to be friendly and try to have a go at local language). But we were able to develop great relationship with owner and staff by time we left. I loved Milan and would like to come back. If so, I would't hesitate in going back to this great family run hotel.

We were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast offered bread, pastries, yogurt, juice, milk, coffee - quiet adequate. Nearby restaurants were good. Proximity to Milan Central train station was our reason for staying at this location. While this neighborhood of Milan is said to be seedy, we felt rather comfortable walking to the hotel from the train station at night with our two younger children. The walk was a bit strenuous with our luggage, perhaps it would have been worth taking the suggested bus or tram.

Really nice hotel, in a central area and yet quiet. Tramway and Metro just around the corner. Don't miss the market near the tramway station (tuesday and saturday)!! The parking is safe and makes sense at Milan (20 euros for Serena guests)! Excellent coffee, breakfast ok. We would definitely come back!

Very central, nice, quiet but with small and dark rooms. We had a very good Venere (59 EUR for a double room) price so overall it was OK. We received no invoice from the hotel's owner which we found very very strange. We didn't say anything...we didn't need it anyway but this showed us how "serious" the hotel was.

Me and friend of mine were very satisfy with the hotel. Our very first impression wasn't so good because we made the destination late at night and the reception clerk didn't pursue to us. But everything changed overnight. The staff behaved amiably, the room looked perfect and the breakfest was delicious, especially coffee. I can't but recommend this hotel but you should learn Italian language if you want to make the staff happy ;-)

We had a very dissappointing welcome to the hotel. The receptionist was not very friendly (he argued)and he claimed to have all our passport in order to fill in the registration form. We had to leave them at the reception and he could not tell us when he would return the passports. Why could'nt we just fill in the registration form ourselves? Fortunately we received our passport before we left the hotel a couple of hours later. The room had air conditioning, but it stopped in the middle of the night and the room turned quit warm. The location was very good and we walked right into the shopping area in Corso Bunes Aires. Nice local cafes and restaurants. The room had a balcony and that was very lovely!

The staff seemed inexperienced and uninspired. The room was good and away from the busy streets, therefore very quiet. The breakfast was very confusing. It was buffet style but with restrictions, ONE piece of bread ONE glass of juice etc. If you wanted more than one bread that would be extra, but no information about the cost. We arrived at the hotel very late in the evening. The walk from Milano central station was a scary one cause of the not so good neighbourhood around the station, it was the longest 800 meters in my life.

Hotel location is good, just what we waited for. But the bathroom was stinking and moisturous, because the dusch spread water everywhere. Also the breakfastroom was disappointmnet; the terasse was not in use and there were ristrictions concerning coffee and the buffe. Also the going on renovation was noisy in the mornings. Using the breakfastroom terasse and the corridor balconies would make the hotel much more attractive.

One block away from the Via Buenos Aires, and two blocks from the nearest Metro station to get into central Milan, the Galleria Emanuelle Vittorio, and the Duomo. The staff is excellent, and treat you like family. As an American traveller, I was not used to the smaller size of the rooms, but the size is normal for Europe, so it was not a big issue. The hotel and the surroundings are more than ok, especially for the price tag. However, the personnel - especially the general manager - did everything possible to make our stay miserable. It all began when a friend of ours wasn't allowed to go up to our room with us - he had to wait at the reception, with no explanations. Second, the room - at least ours - was considerably smaller than what the pictures suggest. This wouldn't have been a problem, if the management could have been bothered to turn on the heating - we were there in the January. As a reply to our requests, the heating would be turned on for around 20 minutes, and then turned back off. The consequence was that we had to sleep with our clothes on, with blankets piled on top of us - something acceptable if you're sleeping in a mountain chalet, but NOT in a Milan 2-star hotel... Breakfast was OK, although the choice of food is rather limited. If you have the misfortune of needing an internet connection, even for a minute, there's no way out of coughing up the 5 euros per hour. Ah, I think they mention that they have SKY digital TV as a default on the room TV. However, you will only be able to access a number of local TV stations (RAI and the like, no CNN, no Eurosport), so digital tv is mostly useless. Adding insult to injury, our freezing week-end ended with a tentative by the manager to overcharge us (the bill he tried to make me sign contained 4 days instead of 3). The conclusion to my review is this: if you are looking to spend a few days in Milan, don't choose Serena - I think you can do A LOT better for your money. It's a real shame, because the hotel is very well placed and the rooms look more than decent. However, the complete lack of hospitality (...and heating) will ruin it for you.
