I loved this hotel: welcoming and very courteous staff, spotless and quiet room, spacious bathroom, most excellent breakfast buffet, easy walk to Milano Centrale station, and great weekend rate. The only drawback is that the neighborhood is a little dead at night. Nevertheless, I recommend it highly.

Comfortable, friendly business hotel near the central train station that is very convenient for day trips from Milan. Nice amenities in room (30" HD flat screen tv, free beverages), free computer access, and a lavish breakfast. Metro stop is half a block away. Area is not good for fine dining. Parking is expensive at Eu 18 a day.

When we came to check in our rooms were not ready. We had a tour booked so we left to go to the tour at 2:00. When we got back at 6:30 we got our rooms. They were all smoking rooms. WE had requested non smoking rooms. They said they were all gone and nothing was available. Will not stay there again. The room smelled horrible.

Stayed 2 nights. Great hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff who spoke good English. Very good location close to airport transport and train station. Great extras such as complimentary mini bar (excluding alcohol beverages) which is topped up every day, and guest area with coffee, tea and cakes. It was recommended to us by friends and we would happily recommend to our friends.

The Berna was a great choice for Milan, we had no trouble finding it and its close proximity to Centrale Train station meant that the rest of Milan was within easy reach. The rooms were average size but adequately furnished with a good size bathroom. There are quite a number of nice restaurants within short walking distance to eat in of an evening, just ask at the desk and the breakfast at the hotel was very nice, plenty of choices for all tastes. Staff were very helpful and we would stay here again if ever we are in Milan.

The service was outstanding. The breakfast is the best I have ever had in a hotel in Europe. The location is very convenient, even if the surroundings are not particularly attractive. I can recommend this hotel without any reservation. The room was small, but well laid out and served my needs perfectly. The complimentary mini-bar service is a very nice gesture.

Excellent hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Easy access to landmarks and restaurants. I would most certainly stay at Hotel Berna again when in Milan.

Conveniently located for Centrale station (so a bit of a walk to the town center). My single room was a little on the small side given the cost, and a little noisy (perhaps inevitable given the location). Breakfast was good, though.

The hotel was perfect for our needs as mother and daughter away for a long weekend. The hotel is of a very good standard and excellently positioned near Central Station and good transport links. We like to walk and found that the centre including the opera house etc was a walkable distance but we did get the tram a couple of times and taxis back at night. I would highly recommend this hotel as the staff are very helpful and pleasant.

Exceptionally handy for those arriving by train or by airport bus. Front desk is competent and polite, and generous with the initial free Internet time. Rooms are small but well laid out; the street gets flakier by the year but is well lit. Highly recommend the Berna for price-quality ratio and politeness of staff.

The hotel is ideally situated near the station, metro and airport shuttle buses. There were some thoughtful extras included in the price eg half an hour of internet use and regularly replenished minibar. The breakfast was excellent with a huge amount of choice. I found the staff very helpful.

The wireless internet was spotty. The location is close to the central train station and there is some life around the hotel but most is located towards the Duomo. It is very quiet at night being a mostly business district area. Transportation is very accessible via the central station which is a short 2 minute walk.

We thought the hotel was good value for money, for Milan. The staff were excellent, providing good service. There was a free mini bar(non alcoholic)which was welcome as were the tea and coffee facilities. Excellent location close to station but in a good area. Will definitely return for our next trip to Milan.

Very convenient location - just a few minutes on foot to metro, tram and train. Friendly staff. I arrived quite early, but was allowed to check in right away without any drama. I got a single standard room - it's a bit small, but good enough if you just need a place to sleep (Milan is a wonderful city - you are not supposed to stay in the hotel too much!) I was amused by the shower cubicle, which was tiny even for a petit person like me (the bathroom as a whole was OK though). The breakfast was quite abundant.

When we arrived there was a smell of sewage in the bathroom but the second day it was gone. Also, the room had not been properly ventilated and it was a bit smaller than we expected. Besides these issues, everything else was perfect: great service from staff, 30 minutes of free Internet access, and a huge breakfast.

Great location, very close to main train station and metro. Buses run from both airports to station. Local area built up and not very pretty but you can't have convenience and rural charm. Hotel top class, all the staff were helpful and pleasant. Rooms clean, wide choice at breakfast inc. scrambled egg, bacon, cereal, fruit, cake, croissants. Bar a bit pricey but includes complimentary snacks. Free coffee and 30 min. internet access in lobby. Reasonable local restaurants. 10 people in my group and all very happy.

This is an excellent hotel. One of the best I have ever stayed in. The metro station is a minute away, getting around Milan is so easy using the Metro. A one-day ticket is approx 3 euro. The non-alcoholic minibar in the room is free, we were given free cake in the hotel bar and invited to a free drinks reception for New Year's Eve. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. They would not pass a hotel guest without saying hello or good morning. The breakfast was excellent. The reception made a reservation for us at a superb authentic italian restaurant. We were treated like royality. I really can't say enough good things about Berna.

As a single woman looking for a place to stay between evening arrival at Milan Central railway Station and a morning flight, the Berna is "borderline: close enough to walk to if you are reasonably fit/fresh, BUT (a big but) it is off the main square, and requires one to walk for about a block on a fairly dark and empty side street. There are several better choice, at various price points: closer to the station and on the main square proper.

I used to visit Milan on a regular basis 4-5 years ago, and I always stayed at Berna. I was very pleased to see that is was as excellent as always, and had even added some nice little extras - half an hour of free internet use per room is a excellent idea and very much appreciated.

Very disappointed. On arrival we were told they were very busy and they had to give us another room but would move us the following day. The room we were given was a smoking room and we assumed it was the only available room. Very difficult to sleep and the following day our clothes and hair reeked of cigaretes. Reception staff had a dismissive attitude, and were rather rude. They offered us 10% off and my husband commented about 10% and the receptionist said "you want it free do you". The dining room staff and the bar attendant very helpful but we would not return because of front of house staff

I stayed in Milan on my way to and from Bellagio on Lake Como, and stayed at Hotel Berna on both ends. I was extremely pleased with the property and the staff. The room on the front end was large and newly renovated, and even had a jacuzzi in the bath; the second room was a bit darker and older. Both were very clean. The breakfast choices were similarly large. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and spoke good English. Its proximity to Stazione Centrale is also a big plus. I would definitely return there

Hotel Berna appeared to have had a recent renovation when I stayed. The room fit out was to a high standard and the room (which looked out onto an internal courtyard) was very quiet except for a suggestion of a lack of soundproofing between floors. There are rooms which look out onto the street but the hotel is well soundproofed and Via Napo Torriani is not a busy road. Free non-alcoholic drinks in the mini-bar was a nice touch. There is no restaurant in the hotel but there is a selection of eateries nearby. I had two good meals at Ristoranti La Buca just around the corner. The location is very handy if you arrive by train: a short walk from Stazione Centrale. The centre of the city is within walking distance (about 20 minutes) or five minutes by metro. Overall I though Hotel Berna was good value for money and I would stay there again.

What an unexpected pleasure to find such a well managed hotel in Milan near the Central Station. The security system for access to the dependance across the street from the main buildng is well designed, the room was super clean and contained every amenety you could think of. No nickel-and-diming here with a gratis minibar, sans alchohol. Criticism: I forgot the charger for my electric toothbrush in the room upon departure and was unable to return to pick it up. Hotel Berna does not respond to my e-mails with request to send it to me at my expense.

Well situated between Milano Centrale and Corso Buenos Aires, personal very professional; free non-alcoolic drinks in mini-bar (I travel a lot all over the world: no one other hotel I've stayed has this offer!)This is a little thing, but it makes pleasure;)... Wonderful breakfast where You can even make yorself in 1minute a carrot juice! Internet facilities for free: even if it is only half an hour downstairs and 1h wi-fi with Your computer,in many places in Italy it is not free at all, so, that's a good point as well;)! My room was very small, but comfortable with a large bed. I've liked the welcoming, the hotel's central position, and specially...a very healthy breakfast:)! I'll come back for sure!

For a single female traveler, this is a good choice! It's a businessperson-oriented hotel very close/convenient to the train station, and the neighborhood has a few 3 and 4 star hotels, which means it is not as sketchy as one would think. It's close to the Metro with quick access to major sightseeing spots, and there are some good eating choices in walking distance. The single room was small, as you would expect in Europe, but for only one night it was perfectly fine.

What a great hotel! 5 min. walk from the train station. Nice lobby, friendly staff. Cozy, clean bedroom. But the best part by far was the breakfast! What do you want for breakfast? It's probably there. Iced chocolate drinks, fresh squeezed juices - or make your own at the juicer. Quiches, grilled vegetables, deviled eggs, and many other savory dishes. Then for those with a sweet tooth, there's a huge selection of pastries, biscuits, cereals, yogurts. It was delicious!!! Best breakfast in Europe.

The Hotel Berna is near Milan Central Station on a quiet road filled with similar hotels. The hotel décor is very 70s but the rooms were clean and the staff friendly and welcoming. We have stayed in slightly more expensive hotels in the same area, all have a similar dated feel about them but the Berna stands out because of the service, all hotels in the area will provide you with a street map but here they recommended areas to eat, drink and shop without referring to “partner” restaurants or by simply giving you a booklet of adverts. Also because of the excellent buffet breakfast, they have almost everything and serve ‘til eleven, the bar wasn’t bad either, not somewhere you’d spend all night but not bad for a quick night cap after a four course meal. If I needed somewhere relatively cheap to stay in Milan in a safe area with handy transport links to the city centre (35 mins to walk to the Duomo, under 10 on the metro) and to the airports I would pick The Berna over every other similar price hotel in that area.

This hotel is a safe bet when traveling to Milan. It is very close to the Train station which will take you anywhere in Milan. The room was a little small, but just fine for my husband and I. The breakfast offered a variety of American/Itilian foods. The staff was very friendly and offered great advise. There was no complaints about this property. The excelent quality of the staff service and the great breakfast are the best points of this good and honest hotel. However, the furniture is not new and the rooms lack some space. Besides, we´ve stayed in a flat in front of the street, where we had to listen some music from a bar accross the street. It's also worth to mention some other good aspects of the hotel, suchs as the good and not expensive wi-fi Internet access and the strategic location, two blocks aways from the central train station. Overall, therefore, the good aspects are much more prominent than the bad ones, and the hotel is a very good place to stay in Milan.

This was an awful experience!! Our room looked nothing like those on the website - where are the pictures of the rundown rooms with lumpy mattress, wallpaper peeling and insulation falling?? We could not have been more disappointed with the Hotel Berna. At check-in the front desk told us they were doing some renovations and asked if that would be a problem - I did not realize they meant they were working in our hallway and in the room across from us. The noise was unbearable. The room was disgusting, with insulation falling out of the ceiling in the bathroom. You could see the matress sagging in the middle, and when I sat down it sunk a foot. After multiple trips to the front desk they moved us across the street to a room that had been renovated. This was a bit eerie however as there was no front desk - you use a key card to enter the hotel front door. Eventually someone at Berna will buzz you in. I was traveling with my teenage daughter and was very uneasy without having hotel staff in the building. Although our breakfast was included they tried to charge us. I would never, EVER stay here again.

The Berna actually has two facilities, the main hotel and an annex directly across the street. We stayed in the annex. The included breakfast, served in the main hotel, offered many choices, and the serving staff was exceptional. The bathroom and shower were large compared to others we encountered on our trip. Although clean, the room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Other travelers have mentioned "working women" on the street outside the hotel. Although there were a number of women on the street, none of them bothered us.

Ending my travel in Italy,I mentioned that this hotel is a benchmark example for presentation and facilities. Sugested that site location map in relation to direction from railway Station needed correction.

I can't believe that we stayed in the same Hotel Berna, based upon many reviewers' statements regarding the rooms. Ours, in the main building, was a Superior Double and was large by Italian standards and had a large bathroom with a large shower. For a 4 star facility it was fairly priced, and the 4 star staff was typically full of themselves. One of the best breakfast buffets of our three week vacation in Italy. Very good location near the train station in order to catch the shuttle to the airport the next morning. Although only 2 or 3 blocks from the station, the directions were very confusing.

The hotel was clean and quite. We were greeted warmly. The breakfast was very good and a good variety. The only problem we had was our luggage was delayed by British Air and the hotel received it but didn't tell us. A small error but they were very sorry. We would diffently stay there again.

Excellent location (a nine-iron from Stazione Centrale and easy walk to Corsa Buenos Aires shopping and to parks); very good service; free internet access is a bonus; rooms are "compact" in typical European style but quiet;

This hotel was very nice and comfortable. The rooms were clean and breakfast was the best we had our 10 day tour of Italy! The staff was very friendly and helpful. It so so close to the main train station, which is nice and even closer to a metro entrance which will take you anywhere you want to go!

Hotel Berna is an easy 5 minute walk from the Milan Central train station and 2 minutes away from the subway. We had reserved a double superior room at the hotel. We received a pleasant surprise on arrival when we were upgraded to a double executive room at the Hotel Berna Towers across the street (a picture of the room is on the front page). The Hotel Berna Towers is a brand new 5 floor hotel with very spacious rooms. Our room was by far the nicest room we stayed in during our trip to Italy (we also visted Rome, Florence and Venice, and stayed in hotels in the same price range). The room had a big bathroom with a spacious shower. The bed was very soft with plenty of blankets and pillows. The TV was a flat-screen and it did get two English channels. As advertised by the hotel, the mini-bar is free. Our mini-bar had cans of coke, water, fruit drinks and candy bars. The mini-bar was restocked each day. The breakfast was the best breakfast offering we had while on our trip. The choices were plentiful, including items like eggs and bacon which you don't normally see offered. Finally, the hotel does offer 30 free minutes of internet time, which is a nice bonus. Overall, I would highly recommend Hotel Berna for a traveler looking to spend around $200 to stay in Milan.
How to reach Hotel Berna
By car
The hotel is easily reachable by the Tangenziale Est. Exit at Lambrate and follow the indications to Milano Centro. Proceed on viale Rombon, passing the Milano Lambrate railway bridge. Continue on viale Porpora until piazzale Loreto. Take corso Buenos Aires, and keep on the right lane for approximately 0.6 miles/1 km. Turn onto via Boscovich (the 7th street on the right). Via Boscovich will lead you to piazza San Camillo. Go straight onto via Napo Torriani, where the Berna hotel is located at number 18, in the right hand side.
By train
The hotel is 200 metres/220 yards from Milano Centrale railway station.
By airplane
The hotel is 20 minutes by taxi from the Milano Linate airport (LIN), 50 minutes from the Milano Malpensa airport (MPX) and 55 minutes from Bergamo Orio al Serio airport. A regular bus service for all airports is also avialable at Milano Centrale railway station, and departs/arrives every 10 minutes to/from Milano Malpensa and every 15 minutes to/from Milano Linate and Orio al Serio.
