We had a 2 night stay with Hotel Berna. The location can't be anymore convenient, it's only a couple minutes walking distance from Milan Central Station and there is a metro right at your door step! We had a very warm welcome by the staff during check in. The room itself was quality, clean, shower was powerful. Any soft drink and snack from the fridge was free and they replenished it the next day for you. The very only downside of our room was small but we were OK with it. The overall experience was lovely and we'll be staying with Berna again if we come to Milan.

Great position being only a short walk from railway station but getting a bit dated. No outside area available to sit in which we like but bar area a great place to catch up with like minded travellers and hotel provides some tasty food to have with your drinks. Bar service was great

Great hotel, really welcoming and helpful staff - in fact, exceptional staff. Every single person who worked in the Hotel Berna seems to enjoy it and take pride in doing their job really well. Smiling, friendly, helpful and really engaged in providing quality service to all the guests. There are quite a few organisations that could learn a lot about customer services by staying here. I booked this hotel after looking at TA and seeing that this was such a highly rated hotel - number 6 out of 437 hotels in Milan, based on almost 3000 reviews - that is a serious recommendation. Excellent room, very quiet at the back of the hotel. Other good points were a spacious bathroom, fantastic breakfast with a choice of almost everything, access to the internet on their computers, and very close to the Central Station and the Underground, as well as within walking distance of the centre.

Pleasant enough staff, but an overpriced, small room, with noise from other rooms and corridors. Perhaps that is Milan for you - expensive and not actually that nice! I won't be coming back to the city

We were pleased to find the Hotel Berna so close to the train station, especially as we arrived around 11 p.m. The immediate area is not that appealing, but the hotel is clean, attractive, and comfortable. The bar is cozy, a good spot for a cold glass of prosecco (recommended!). Breakfast is excellent, as is the service.

Hotel Berna was a nice hotel near the train station. Unfortunately I had my cell phone stolen as I was nearing the hotel and that put everything into a dark perspective. Andrea M. did all he could to make me fell better about my situation. I was somewhat disappointed that the managers of the hotel didn't help more.

We have nothing but praise for the Hotel Berna. We stayed 3 nights while visiting Milan as part of a three week visit to Italy. Staff all speak English. Reception staff were exceptionally helpful presenting us with maps, tour options, and hotel information (something that is generally lacking in Italian hotels). The porter was also very helpful with information about the room. The room had tea and coffee making facilities and the non-alcoholic contents of the room minibar were free(juice, water, softdrink) and replenished daily. WIFI is also free. The choice at breakfast was abundant - and coffee and tea were served HOT (the first place we have been in Italy that has served HOT, hot drinks - thank you). The hotel is located 200m from Milan Central station and there are numerous cafes and restaurants close by and a small grocery shop across the road.

Reception was excellent except for one or two. Room a little cramped but otherwise sufficient for the night. Breakfast spread was good and staff there were very helpful and even prepared gluten free food for my wife which is celiac. Check out was a snap and will definitely stay there again in our next visit. Overall had a very enjoyable stay.

My wife and I enjoyed two nights at the Hotel Berna in January 2012. We found the hotel to be well located with just a short walk to a nearby metro station, giving easy access to all the sites of Milan. This well-appointed hotel delivers to both tourists and business people, of whom we saw many at breakfast. Our room was quiet and comfortable, with good bathroom facilities. We had some difficulties with the television set, but these things happen in large hotels. The breakfast was the best we had in on our Italian trip, featuring a full range from bacon and eggs right through to every healthy option you could think of. Staff were welcoming, courteous and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Internet facilities, including computers in a room off the foyer, made our travel easier. Juice, mineral water and coffee/tea was available in a very comfortable room off the foyer. The parking attendants were very kind and efficient and had our car parked and retrieved right on time and quickly. This is a very nice hotel, with touches of prestige in a nice neighbourhood in Milan.

Obliging and helpful, combining Swiss-type efficiency and cleanliness with Italian style. Compact rooms with everything required, supplemented by spacious guest lounge. The best hotel breakfast at an inclusive price that suits every palate. Perfectly located by Centrale railway station with ready access to shops and the centre of Milan. Suited us well travelling with 3 adolescent/ young adult children.

A bit pricy but totally worth it. We had many many pillows to choose from to try. They left chocolates on our pillows each day! Wifi is totally free in the comfort of your room. I remember the website said we had to pay for kettle but we were pleasantly surprised to find one clean new kettle in our room. Our room had a huge toilet with very good heater. The staffs were all very patient with us. We asked to pack breakfast as we checked out at 6am and they gladly agreed. Breakfast when eaten inhouse was awesome. You can order caps or latte from the service staffs. They have hot choc too. Eggs were awesome. Only draw back is that they have real tiny lifts.

The heating/air-conditioning system was alittle noisy. The Quality room was generally very clean though not too spacious. It was great to know that the minibar was free and topped up each staying day. We had a great winter deal for 3 nights stay. Reception and Breakfast Staff was very helpful and polite. This hotel is 5 min walk from Stazione Centrale (airport bus arrives & leaves from Centrale) and approximately 40 min to main shopping area & Duomo (or there is the Metro). It is a big hotel, but has personalised service (including your own preference page, which was emailed to me after I booked). The staff are pleasant & helpful, the single room was spacious & had a king single bed, the bathroom is spacious. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and I often noticed customers being welcomed back to the hotel. I would definitely stay here again. I didn't notice any clients with children, so can't comment on suitability for families.

The room was a little small, but all staff were cheerful and friendly, from reception clerks to doormen to waiters/waitresses at the restaurant. Value for money. Certainly on our choice list of hotels next time around.

This is a gem of a hotel, conveniently located near the central train station. While convenient, the location is the least appealing of its attributes; the neighborhood is deserted at night. But this is an extremely elegant hotel that seems to attract an international clientele. The staff was extraordinarily attentive, professional, and friendly. I don't think I've ever received such concern for my preferences (from pillows to how to stock the minibar) and interest in my feedback from a hotel, in any price range or country. I highly recommend this hotel, especially if you want to be near the train station.

The staff were so welcoming on our arrival- we even had an email message from them 2 days before our book in date. On European standards this hotel was wonderful- we have just spent 4 weeks in France/Italy and believe me this was so much better than the majority of hotels booked through our tour company. Room excellent, bathroom new and spacious on European standards, free wifi and the breakfast was one of the best we had- a great deal of choice. It was the first timw we had stayed there and would definitely recommend it to other travellers, especially considering its proximity to Milan rail station- we walked with our bags to hotel(once we worked out which exit to use from the station! A wide range of people were at the hotel-many different nationalities, families with babies/young children, middle aged couples such as ourselves.Probably too small to suit a large group.

The room I stayed in was a single room. The bed was spacious but a little bit too hard. The biggest problem was that it was too hot in the room. We chose Hotel Berna because of the good reviews on TripAdvisor, and they are justified. Despite the proximity to the central station (which is very convenient), many of the rooms are very quiet, and the staff are unusually friendly and helpful. If you don't have to leave very early in the morning, make sure to try out the breakfast at the hotel, which is fantastic: fresh juices, fruit, and a huge array of hot and cold food. Hotel breakfasts are rarely worth the extra charge, but this one is definitely an exception.

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. It was a little more than we had been paying for other hotels on the trip, but the value for the additional money was well worth it. The breakfast option is worth it too. By far, the hotel offered the nicest breakfast of any we had on the trip. Internet access worked well. Staff was very professional and welcoming. Room had a safe and a refrigerator. We had a little difficulty finding the hotel after we exited the train station, but we learned that we need to write and obtain good directions before we leave home -- and print them out! We'd stay at the hotel again without question. Highly recommend. We chose to walk to the Duomo and to the Castello; however, there is a metro stop on the block.

One positive that I can say is that it is near the train station. I am glad that I did not stay at Hotel Berna on the tail end of the trip as I was able to find a different hotel in Milan in a different area that offered more spacious rooms, cleaner and larger bathroom, more service, better breakfast in a nicer location. It's difficult to imagine that they were both 4-star hotels. I felt very claustrophobic in our Berna room. Our stay was less than a day so it didn't matter too much. I think that this is much closer to a 3-star hotel than a 4-star. the other 4-star hotels in Italy were much nicer and the staff were much more helpful. I would not be returning to this hotel again.

The Berna was a great choice for Milan, we had no trouble finding it and its close proximity to Centrale Train station meant that the rest of Milan was within easy reach. The rooms were average size but adequately furnished with a good size bathroom. We like to walk and found that the centre including the opera house etc was a walkable distance but we did get the tram a couple of times and taxis back at night. I would highly recommend this hotel as the staff are very helpful and pleasant.

Disappointingly small room with single bed. A bit dog-eared but clean enough. Very close to Milan Centrale.

Exceptionally handy for those arriving by train or by airport bus. Front desk is competent and polite, and generous with the initial free Internet time. Rooms are small but well laid out; the street gets flakier by the year but is well lit. Highly recommend the Berna for price-quality ratio and politeness of staff.

The hotel is ideally situated near the station, metro and airport shuttle buses. There were some thoughtful extras included in the price eg half an hour of internet use and regularly replenished minibar. The breakfast was excellent with a huge amount of choice. I found the staff very helpful.

The Hotel was great. Close enough to the Train Station to walk and easy to find. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Easy walk to the Duomo and the Galleria. We will stay here next time we are in Milan.

The wireless internet was spotty. The location is close to the central train station and there is some life around the hotel but most is located towards the Duomo. It is very quiet at night being a mostly business district area. Transportation is very accessible via the central station which is a short 2 minute walk.

We thought the hotel was good value for money, for Milan. The staff were excellent, providing good service. There was a free mini bar(non alcoholic)which was welcome as were the tea and coffee facilities. Excellent location close to station but in a good area. Will definitely return for our next trip to Milan.

Very convenient location - just a few minutes on foot to metro, tram and train. Friendly staff. I arrived quite early, but was allowed to check in right away without any drama. I got a single standard room - it's a bit small, but good enough if you just need a place to sleep (Milan is a wonderful city - you are not supposed to stay in the hotel too much!) I was amused by the shower cubicle, which was tiny even for a petit person like me (the bathroom as a whole was OK though). The breakfast was quite abundant.

When we arrived there was a smell of sewage in the bathroom but the second day it was gone. Also, the room had not been properly ventilated and it was a bit smaller than we expected. Besides these issues, everything else was perfect: great service from staff, 30 minutes of free Internet access, and a huge breakfast.

Great location, very close to main train station and metro. Buses run from both airports to station. Local area built up and not very pretty but you can't have convenience and rural charm. Hotel top class, all the staff were helpful and pleasant. Rooms clean, wide choice at breakfast inc. scrambled egg, bacon, cereal, fruit, cake, croissants. Bar a bit pricey but includes complimentary snacks. Free coffee and 30 min. internet access in lobby. Reasonable local restaurants. 10 people in my group and all very happy.

I could see the train station from the front of the hotel! The staff was charming, and recommended wonderful places to eat and drink. Very good for a single traveller - clean and comfy after a day of sightseeing.

This is an excellent hotel. One of the best I have ever stayed in. The metro station is a minute away, getting around Milan is so easy using the Metro. A one-day ticket is approx 3 euro. The non-alcoholic minibar in the room is free, we were given free cake in the hotel bar and invited to a free drinks reception for New Year's Eve. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. They would not pass a hotel guest without saying hello or good morning. The breakfast was excellent. The reception made a reservation for us at a superb authentic italian restaurant. We were treated like royality. I really can't say enough good things about Berna.

As a single woman looking for a place to stay between evening arrival at Milan Central railway Station and a morning flight, the Berna is "borderline: close enough to walk to if you are reasonably fit/fresh, BUT (a big but) it is off the main square, and requires one to walk for about a block on a fairly dark and empty side street. There are several better choice, at various price points: closer to the station and on the main square proper.
