impossible to pay by credit card, impossible to have a bill, room hot and only little ventilator, bed unconfortable with wooden plank under mattress, no water pressure under shower, shower with only 1 door so impossible to close it. Receptionist was sleeping when i arrived at 00h15, and seemed to be surprised to see me. DO NOT GO THERE !!!

the first reservation didn't work out well. That is to say, the day of our arrival the employee told us that he has no room for us because the was some confusion. Hi asked us to go to a friend of him, who has (single)rooms with almost the same price. This "almost" the same price was 25 Euro higher.

I arrived late in the evening, just before middnight. Eventually the man at reception opened the gate. He didn't have a clue about my reservation but gave a room at the price agreed on internet. Althought there were stickers everywhere at reception, I couldn't pay with a card and I had to go to the nearby cash machine. The smelly at reception was not promising.. but the room was clean, with shower and sink.

Good value for the money, although a bit further from the Central Station than I expected. Located on 1st and 2nd floors, stairs are narrow and awkward, no elevator. Pleasant residential area, lots of restaurants nearby.

Didn't like the location. It's not as close to the subway as i thought. The guy at the reception wasn't very nice. Just stayed for a single night. I payed the night when i arrived and the guy didn't even wanted to give me a receipt for the payment! The room wasn't so bad. Sufficiently clean with a shower stall included. I bit degraded.

THIS IS HORRIBLE HOTEL, I WOULD NEVER LIKE TO STAY ANYMORE, THE RECEPNIST I MET IS AN OLD MAN OVER 70 YEARS OLD, HE CAN NOT SEE ANYTHING, WHEN HE SEE YOUR LETTER, THE PAPER ALMOST TOUCH HIS EYE. HE CAN NOT SPEAK ENGLISH AS WELL. THE LOCATION IS NOT BAD, BUT ACTUALLY THE HOTEL IS RENT BY THEM FOR SEVERAL SIMPLE SMALL ROOMS, THE TERRIBLE THING IS THAT I HAVE TO CARRY MY HEAVY LUGGAGE BY MYSELF TO THE 3RD FOOLER, THERE IS NO LIFT, THE FOOLER IS VERY NARROW, THE ROOMS ARE ALL IN THE 3RD FOOLER, YOU CAN FIND ALL THE FACILITES GOT RUST, VERY DIRTY, YOU CAN HEAR ALL CLEARLY YOUR NEIGBOURS CONVERSATION. IT'S WORTHING EURO10 ONLY.

Terrible hotel!! It is not clean at all, and the night I stayed I found lots of little black gross bugs in the bed. The room is waaay to small, dirty and I would not recommend it to anyone! It is far away from the center of milan and the price is too expensive for the terrible place. The receptionist does not help you at all and is rude. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL!!! There are muuuch better cheap hotels in Italy!

The hotel is in a quiet backyard and was very easy to reach down the street from the subway station Lima. The small rooms and corridor have floor tiles, so the hotel ambience looks tidy and clean and is OK for a few nights after sightseeing in the centre.

I only stayed for a couple of nights. It was basic and fair value for money. The only real problem was that it was noisy. The room I had was next to a garage (I think). As that started work at 730am it wasn't quiet. My neighbours also seemed incapable of closing doors quietly, having the TV's on quietly. You get the picture. However, others I hope may not have that problem.

Not a bad choice if you are just looking for a place to sleep for a night. A fairly long walk from the station. Location off the main street in a courtyard. Room was basic with sink. I needed a cheap quiet clean bed near the station so I could catch an early flight. Ambrosiana fitted the bill perfectly. It is in a courtyard off the street therefore is extremely quiet. Staff were not overtly friendly, but answered all questions and were efficient. No breakfast but just up the road from several bakeries and a great yoghurt shake shop - perfect!

This was perfectly adequate for my cheap 1-night stay before travelling on, and isn't too far from the main station. As it's tucked round the back of a courtyard, it wasn't that easy to find when I arrived in the dark, but that's only a minor quibble.

Our room was actually better than what I saw on the pictures before reserving it. I assume that some rooms are modernized, or the hotel just didn't update the pictures. Otherwise, the room was spacious, the bed was good, the bathroom was small, but okay. It's a budget hotel and you get somewhat a motel quality for it, only Italian style - in an old building with cathedral ceilings and the "real" life of Milan's residents just behind your window.

This a lovely little family run hotel. Don't expect too much from the reception or surroudings, however the staff are helpful and the rooms very spacious and comfortable. It's in a great location, only 500 yards from a metro staion, that takes only 5 minutes to get to the Duomo.

The woman is very nice and capable, unfortunately occasionally an old, partially blind and deaf man who speaks no English fills in if she has to leave the hotel. This is 20 minute walk from the train station which is no problem if you don't have much luggage. In a quieter part of Milan but easy to get everywhere you will want to go. The facilities here are basic, basic, and basic, but that's what you pay for. Toilets are not in rooms even if you have a shower. Very clean and very friendly. Australians should quiz the owner about his All Blacks shirt. There are also very few grocery type stores for supplies anywhere near the hotel but plenty of cafes and bars. Closest place for that is at the train station.

Given the low price for the hotel (especially relative to other hotels in Milan), the hotel wasn't bad. Pros: - Hotel near metro stop - Hotel and room were clean - Room overlooked school, with kids playing Cons: - Bed was uncomfortable - lack of box springs made it sink in the middle - Shower door broke on first use (had been previously fixed using glue) - "Towels" were flimsy, and more closely resembled tablecloths/large cloth napkins - No breakfast provided, as described in previous review that I had read

The locality of the hotel is quite good and easily accessible from the train station. The one star hotel is actually within the residential area and the web-photo is rather deceiving. Got a shock when I saw the actual building as it is kind of 'old'. The employees are very friendly and helpful. For the price I am paying, the room provides the basics and it is adequate for me. Rather spacious for a single room and comfortable except the blanket needs extra cleaning as found strings of hair left by previous users. Need to improve upon this.

Overall, I was happy with the Ambrosiana. The room I stayed in was very small, but adequate for one person only staying two nights. The room was very clean, as was the toilet down the hall. The staff I encountered were friendly, although their English was as limited as my Italian! Be warned, the map suggests that the hotel is near the corner of Via Plinio and Corso Buenos Aires. However, it is a full block further away down Via Plinio, away from Central Railway Station. The picture of the twin room on the hotel's website is somewhat more attractive than my single room was. However, as the room was clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable enough, and it only cost 36 Euro a night, I believe that I got value for money.

Ambrosiana was a short walk from a metro station, good shopping, cafes, fastfood and a supermarket. The area is quiet during the evening as there are few bars and no nightlife that I saw. But its easy to get to more central locations by Metro or taxi or walking. The accomodation is a Pension not a hotel and appears to be run by a family. The manager speaks reasonable english and he was friendly and helpful. The rest of the staff speak little/no english. The rooms were clean and warm. Single rooms do not have a toilet but do have a shower. A shared toilet was located at the end of the hall. Overall a reasonable price for a reasonable service.

Some reviwers have said that the Ambrosiana is close to the station and some have said that it is far. By scaling from the map, I find it to be 1.3 kilometers from the middle of the front entrance of the Stazione Centrale. It took me 25 minutes to walk from the station with a rolling suitcase. You start out on via Vitruvio which becomes via Plinio. Get a map from mappe.libero.it. The Ambrosiana is, however, only about 300 meters from the Lima station of the #1 (red) line of the Milano metro, where via Vitruvio becomes via Plinio as it crosses via Buenos Aires. Bus #60 runs from the station past the hotel. Transportation from the hotel to the Linate airport is via metro from Lima three stops to San Babila, thence via bus 73 to the airport in another 20 minutes. (If you are a tourist, I recommend the 3-euro 24-hour pass on the metro and buses.) On via Vitruvio and Plinio, there are ample opportunities to buy pastry, groceries, pizza, books, or clothes. It is a pleasant street. The hotel, on the right side of the the street as you approach from the station, is marked on the street by a small but lighted sign, about 60cm wide by 30cm high. You go through a doorway into a the courtyard of a once elegant building, cross the courtyard, go out the back and look to your right. The hotel is up one floor (27 steps) in the building behind the once-elegant one. My single room without bath actually had a shower, bidet, and lavatory. It was simplicity itself but spacious and very clean. A large window looked out on an building that seemed to do some sort of automobile maintenance. The TV in adjacent rooms was clearly audible. The hotel has virtually no public space that I saw, just a tiny reception desk at one end of the hall from which the rooms open. I did not try the breakfast, preferring the attractive fare on the street. The Ambrosiana is decidedly simple, but clean and friendly. I would certainly be happy to stay there again if traveling alone,

The two nights we stayed the temperatures really plunged in milan. the the heating did not come on and when i asked at the reception desk why not, I was told that it was a 'community' heating system and it only came on at set times! there was one extra blanket provided and on asking for extra, i was refused! however, when i returned to the room the next day, the heating had mysteriously came back on for a short time before going off again as the room did not feel like a fridge. the people who work on reception are also unhelpful: there are steep, narrow stairs to get up to the top floor, there is no lift and there was no offer of help with the luggage. The room was quite shabby: peeling paintwork and drawers that didn't work. The only good thing was its location, about 15minute walk from Milan central station and there are regular buses that run along the road to the station. A metro station is only a 5-minute walk away. Plus there are nice eateries dotted along the road. However, i wouldn't choose to stay there again.

The map provided is totally inaccurate. The hotel is at least a half hour walk from the railway station along poorly maintained streets. The staff were rude to the point of indifferent. The rooms claim to be on the first floor..without a lift...but it was more like two floors up narrow and steep stairs. The noise from the next door neighbourhood basketball court went on well into the night. A very disappointing stay.

It's not near the train station, as stated. No elevators - very troublesome if you have large suitcases. Good price considering that Milan is quite costly.

it's quite run down but it's in a great location, so I guess there are trade offs.

We wanted clean, basic, inexpensive accommodation close to the centre and that is exactly what we found. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. If anyone is after no-frills accommodation to lay their weary heads then the Amrosiana is it. The entrance through the courtyard is particularly charming. Highly recommended.

The receptionist didn't seem to know if we had a booking and didn't know how to smile. The room was reasonably clean but old, the door lock ancient. The noise from other people trying to unlock and then lock their doors in the middle of the night was terrible and kept us awake. Not a pleasant stay.

Overall, not a bad hotel for the price. It was farther than we expected from the train station, but still conveniently located. The entrance was difficult to find, and no one answered the door at first. However, once we got inside, the hotel employees were competent. The room had a small shower, sink and wash basin, and the bathroom was at the end of the hall. Our main problem was the lack of air conditioning on a hot summer night in Milan, and if we opened the windows, there was a lot of noise outside. Other than that, everything was fine. Very reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the area.

The problem is that they made a stupid mistake of my check-in date. So when I went there there was no room available for me. Later I was arranged to another hotel not close to this one. I had to walk for the distance with injured feet, heavy luggages in the hot sunshine on crowded and noisy street. They claimed that the hotel is only 500 meters from the railway station by email. But this is definitely wrong. The real distance is much more. For most items above I am not able to give my evaluation as I was not staying that hotel. Only the following items are valid (as I am required to respons all questions): Welcoming Surroundings Prices quoted Location as indicated on maps Sorry for it!

Very, very poor hotel! It was out honeymoon-trip and our meaning is that Milan was super except our hotel. I don't know why it's classified as a hotel

This time I was given an older room that had not been re-done so it was not as nice as the one I had last time

Hallo, you see we did not stay in the Ambrosiana Hotel, they told us that something was broken on that floor which we should stay on. Anyway, they had made a reservation on the Piave Hotel instead, to the same price, so the answer I had put in are made for Piave Hotel. I hope you understand. Tommy H Nilsson

With the advent of the Euro the quality price relationship of lodgings has decreased considerably since last year in Milano. I hope to find a better quality of lodgings next year as this is a regular visit that iwill be making each year for the forseeable future. I would have to say that the single star tghat this hotel was rated is an exageration though, it may be merited according to the criteria now in use. To me this was a no star pension and should have been advertised as such.

This hostel is near the Central Stazionne and it's very nice when you come from Ryanair (because the bus arrives at the station). However, the hostel is quite far from the center by feet (40/45 min) but by Metro it takes 5 minutes from Lima Station. Hostel keeper are friendly and speak a little english (useful for a non italian speaker). Single rooms are nice with a big bed. TV are also provided a the room. The only thing is that is quite expensive 36 euros per night !!

The employee is really kind. That is most important. It is convenient that there is bus stop (No.60) near the hotel, and it is not so far from subway (LIMA). Even though there is a fair in Milano, price is almost same. It is reasonable.
