This place worked for a few days but was merely average overall. Mestre isn't a great part of town and as a single traveler I was a little concerned while I was there by the street noise and creepy park nearby. However, overall it functions as a hotel and even though my room was small it gave me everything I needed. Great public areas and internet access, breakfast is 10 euro each time you go and the staff can either be rude or friendly depending on who you talk to.

Good location for Mestre - train/bus, number of local restaurants within walking distance on Via Piave + one next door (boisterous but ok). Getting into Venice can be pretty hectic but thats half the fun - beware of Vaporettos that travel in both directions, we got an unscheduled ride right around the outside of the city! Not much contact with anyone; only one small lounge area that I saw but apparently there is another upstairs. Euro hotels in old buildings are small, so don't expect US style expanses. Our room had air con and was very clean and neat, not too much street noise. The area is a little tacky and drab but hey thats Italy too; nothing can compete with Old Venice for wow factor. we've never stayed in the Venice proper so I can't comment on what it would be like. The staff were very helpful, although breakfast lady laconic - aren't they all- and the breakfast plain (mostly prepackaged but the coffee was ok. I would be happy to stay here again

the only good thing about this hotel was the fact that was 5 min walking distance from the train station that connects to Venice and 10 minuts driving from the main airporto Marco Polo. The sorrounding area was quite rough though. The pictures on the website give a better image of the rooms then they actually are! the bathroom is too small and no bath just a small shower.

This was our second visit to the Roberta. We chose Mestre again because of its convenient location on the rail network which enabled us to take the train to Vicenza and Ferrara. Venice is a fast, cheap train ride across the causeway, for a stress-free visit. We explored the old centre of Mestre which is delightful and well supplied with restaurants. Some rooms can be noisy, but we slept well. The breakfast room is small but the staff work hard to clear the tables quickly and you can always have a coffee and wait in the comfortable seating in the hallway. Another good visit.

Hotel is very close to the railway station. Trains to Venice are every 5-10 minutes. Considering the prices in the area, the hotel offers very good price/ quality ratio. It is clean, confortable, cozy. Still, we were lucky to have had quite neighbours; walls are very thin and one night we could hear neighbours talking a little louder. If we returned to Venice, we would choose the same hotel without a doubt.

Room were very dark and cold. There was no lift so we had to carry our lugagge two sets of floors and across a corridor to another entrance to the rooms. Overnight the temperature dropped to 5 degrees C and the heater was not switched on. The following night they switched on for 10 min and turned off again. On the same day we went to do our laundry and when we returned there was this unbearable smell of faeces all over the room as they were pumping sewage outside. We did not have a good time. Breakfast was ok. However the internet access was not located at the hotel it is outside in a internet caffe and costs about EU 1.60 for 1/2 hour.

This place is in Mestere Which contrary to Rick Steves reviews of NOT staying there I found to be a relief from the crowds of Venice. It's a 10 minute 1 Euro train trip which runs every 10 minutes. the station is about a 3 minute walk from the hotel. This Hotel was nice and inexpensive. BUT DO Not get a room that faces the side alley. It is the back part to a restaurant and customers and owners of the place are out there at all hours yelling and smoking cigarettes. I was awakened at 1 Am by several people yelling and making waaaaay too much noise. I would stay there again Just NOT on the alley. also I was given a Single room with a bed so small I could hardly roll over.

Firstly, the website says the hotel is 200mtrs from the train station. It's close but not that close. We had to walk for quite a while to find it late at night and the area isn't great so we were a little bit nervous. From what I saw on the website I was expecting a big hotel on the main street, it's a tiny hotel on a back street. Also, while the staff were nice we didn't find them very professional.

We stayed at the Roberta for six nights in June 2007, and were very happy with both the room and general service. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, and spoke English well enough to be of great assistance to us during our stay. The hotel is situated just a short walk from Mestre central railway station, as indicated on the website. This proved ideal for our daily trips to Venice Island and other day trips to places like Padova and Trieste. The hotel breakfast consisted of a substantial continental buffet with coffee on tap via a superb machine, and the dining room was clean, quiet and comfortable. I think the price of the rooms is about right for the quality of the hotel, and the room was comfortable enough except that the bed was a little hard for our liking. Rooms would also benefit from the inclusion of a tea/coffee facility to be a little more welcoming. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and would recommend the hotel Roberta for a short stay and for it's handiness.

My single end-of-the-hall room was comfortable, quiet, clean, and modern as was the bathroom which was also well-lit and had a very spacious, well-designed open shower area. The hotel has a very cheerful breakfast room that is too small for the number of guests but this could be compensated for if the food choices offered were more interesting. Roberta herself is friendly and helpful but some of her staff should definately learn to smile to convey a guest-friendly and positive attitude even while attending to little annoying logistical problems like, for example, the over-crowded breakfast room. There currently is no elevator but hopefully there will be one next year. The location is very convenient for the Mestre train station and bus connections to Venice. The property seems well-kept and regularly re-invested in and is a worthy choice for both first and return visits.

This hotel was further from the station then it looks on the map. The area is a bit scary. Lots of older rough looking single guys hanging around and cat calls, etc. It could have been due to my being a woman alone, but it was not a place I would stay at again. By contrast, spent one night on Venice (island not mestre) and it was fine to walk around at night with no problems. the hotel is nice and has all the goodies, more like a holiday inn then the typical budget european room.

My husband, me and a couple of friends have spent 15 days travelling in Italy, on January/07. After passing through many cities we have arrived at Venezia Mestre and we had a great surprise. The Hotel Roberta, that we have reserved at Venere.com, was really what the photos showed: very close to the train station (2 blocks), a modern reception room, spacious and clean bathrooms and rooms and a very nice and complete breakfast. Comparing with the other Hotels we have stayed in Italy, this one was the best of them, not just for the rooms, but also the great welcoming.

The hotel is fine, but please warn future guest of the restaurant: as we wanted to have just a small dish at night, we went to the restaurant in the hotel's building. It was the restaurants owner whom we told clearly that wanted to eat just a little bit as we were tired from a long drive. He took some notes and then kept on serving plate after plate which I did not feel that I have ordered them. Upon refusing to take any more (multiple dishes untouched on the table) - we received that outrageous bill. We were "pulled over the table", with a bill of 78 Euro. Please warn other, future guests not to go to that restaurant.

Sure, the lobby is very elegant. But the rooms are another story altogether. A very cramped and oddly furnished space. 2 reading lights - one was missing, the other was not functioning. Staff was very helpful (provided all info we needed, and even arranged for some breakfast to be available earlier on the day of our departure). Breakfast was excellent! This is a small quiet hotel about a 5 minute walk from the train station. Walking w/luggage is fine, due to sidewalks. There is very little to due in this city, however, if you are visiting Venice or other cities, then it's ok. Venice is a 10 minute train ride (2 euro R/T per person). The hotel is small, but our room was spacious, clean, and on the ground floor. We spent 160 euros for 2 nights, which I thought was a bit high for this city. The staff were friendly and spoke English.

Perfect after a hot day in crowded Venice. Breakfast was also very good. The only funny thing is that the reception is all glass and chrome and it looks very modern while the rooms are old style. Anyway-I will definately come back!

An excellent hotel at a cheap price. Clean, well appointed, air conditioned rooms. Double glazing and shutters on windows keeps out noise and early morning light. Staff friendly and helpful. Very easy access to Venice via nearby train station. A real find.

It´s a very cosy and welcoming hotel. It has a very familiar environment, and the breakfast is one of the best i´ve ate in Italy, althought it didn´t had ham and eggs. It´s a great alternative if you´re visitng Venice, because it´s very near to the train station Venezia Mestre, and to Venezia Sta.Luzia it´s only €1 by train. If I come back to Venice, I would certainly come back to this hotel;)

We had two rooms on the ground floor. Very clean and nice. People at the hotel were very nice and gave us our choice of rooms. Close to train station. The neighborhood was fine during the day but a little sketchy at night. The price was great and the bed were comfortable. We would stay here again.

I'm not sure why you would stay here. The location is unwelcoming, and for the price you can stay in Venice proper. The rooms were tidy, but unfresh smelling and lacked temperature control. Also, no one was at the front desk after hours. This was our least favorite hotel of the trip and we don't recommend it.

The hotel and staff were great! The room was clean and large and very charming - great bathroom too! The hotel includes a free continental breakfast that based on what you might be able to get for a lot of money outside, is well worth the stay! Mestre is a charming stay outside of Venice and the price is worth the short 10 min. train ride into the city!

Photographs well with modern frontage but really is quite an average hotel. Overpriced, but I understand that Venice is like that. The worst value for money hotel of our tour of Italy but to be honest a lot of the other hotels didnt look much better. Poor breakfast selection and sheets not replaced. Reasonably close to the Venice Mestre train station though and easy access to Venice SL station

The Roberta hotel is an excellent choice for a visit to Venice. The hotel is 5 min walk from the station with trains going very regularly into venice (10 min journey). The staff were friendly and helpful and rooms well furnished and comfortable.

Excellent value for money and a very clean and comfortable hotel. The breakfast room was well appointed and a good selection of food offerred. Directions to hotel were not helpful from the motorway. The exit, Mestre-Villabona, referred to was not signposted. Once the Train Station was located the directions to the hotel were good. We appreciated the secure parking and the ease of access to Venice via the bus and train. Locally there is a excellent laundramat and several internet access points

Great Hotel,Good coffee, Very clean,Good size room and large spotless bathroom Easy reach of Station. We had a room at the front which over looked the road, but we were offered a room in quieter part of the hotel ,but as the windows are double glazed it didn't matter. On the whole a very good hotel

Simple but comfortable hotel. Well located, near train station (5 minutes walking and 10 minutes by train to Venezia S.Lucia station). Room assigned was spacious and clean, with private bathroom. The hotel doesn´t have lift. We had to carry our luggage to the room assigned in the second floor.

This is a nice place to start your daily trip to Venice if looking to avoid high venice prices. Connections are excellent (day & night). Hotel very clean. Surroundings are crowded with (apparently harmless) people from east Europe. I would definetely consider using this hotel again in the future.

The Roberta is an excellent choice of acommodation for the traveller wishing to visit Venice. It is conveniently located close to the station from where Venice is a short, inexpensive train ride away, as is Padova, well worth a visit. The staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful and the rooms clean and comfortable. The breakfast was ok with plenty of good coffee and croissants. The breakfast room was a little small,a minor point as our room was close by and we could take a cup of coffee back to the room until a table was cleared. There are two good restaurants in the same street and a lovely pasticceria over the road.We will certainly return to this hotel in the future.

Paid a very cheap price for accomodation when compared to staying in Venice. Very convenient with the train station being so close. We found the public transport both very cheap and efficient. Would recomend the hotel as an ideal location for a cost effective way to visit venice.

An adequate place to stay outside of Venice. No elevator and many stairs to the 2nd floor. The room was clean, but the spring beds were not comfortable. We found the hotel by following the signs to the train station. But the hotel is located on a 1-way street not accessible from the main street. You must work your way through the narrow streets to the hotel. The free parking is available for 2 cars, otherwise you need to find a street parking place marked with blue and pay. The staff is helpful and speak some English.

Ho soggiornato all'hotel Roberta in agosto.

Just the right hotel for our needs. Nothing fancy, but a good hotel for what it tries to be. Clean, close to the rail station, with AC and a balcony. Morning breakfast included coffee (it was sooo cool to push the button and get a well made espresso - I kept pushing it but stopped after my 3th one to avoid the jitters). Also: teas, bottled drinks, cold cereal and other "continental" choices.
