Hotel Steiner - Meran
Via Laurin 58-64 - Meran
877-662-6988The hotel is an ideal vantage point for a promenade walk, hiking tours and hill walking, for instance, to visit castles, churches and other cultural and historic attractions of the area. The hotel also has a locked bicycle shed, just in case you prefer this kind of locomotion, during your holidays in the Tyrolean Merano.
At the Steiner Hotel in Merano there also is a restaurant, and a swimming pool with a sunbathing area with beach umbrellas and loungers that are ideal to chill on hot summer days. Only a few steps further you will find the Steiner Café with terrace, which you are free to come to as a hotel guest.

Charming family hotel nice located at the border of Merano. Lots of walking possibilities. Walking distance to town center about 20 minutes. There are also busses but the time schedule is very free interpretated. Two times the bus took another route and didn't stop at our busstop, so attention for this! There is a restaurant in the hotel but dinertime is not flexibel: you can only have diner from 18.30 till 19.30 h. Even so the café/bar: don't think you can take a drink at 22.00 h, the café is closed at 21.45 h. However Mr. Steiner is a good host, he is always in the hotel and you can ask him everything. Mind that Merano is in the north of Italy so the atmosphere is more Tirol/Ostenreich than Italian

The hotel is at the bottom end of the three-star classification. The staff was friendly and helpful and the location is convenient to bus routes and downtown. The room was small and not air-conditioned; the rug, chairs and draperies quite worn; and the pool tiny. Many guests were part of a bus tour. The breakfast was OK, but the dinners were very mediocre, much less well prepared and imaginative than other 3-star locations in Italy. We would look for another hotel on our return trip to Merano.

Personale cordiale e disponibile. Ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo. Consigliabile la mezza pensione per la varietà e bontà della cucina.

Overall good value. Breakfast was not really up to 3* standard, but the evening meal was a four course affair, (no choices), with very large portions! Traditional Italian fare, well cooked. In this part of Italy, German is the main language. Only the owner spoke English, but was very helpful. This hotel is situated in a residential area surrounded by apple orchards. Merano is a lovely town, and there are delightful areas to visit, all no further that a days round trip.

When you read the overview it says "The Hotel Steiner is located in a quiet valley, surrounded by coniferous woodland..". I think that is a bit misleading as the location is actually fairly suburban. Also it is a bit far away from the centre of town but there is a bus service past the door. However in all other respects the hotel was quite good. We had dinner there twice and the food was very good home style cooking and big servings. The views from the balconies were excellent. The coffee shop/bar is closed on Tuesdays but very reasonably priced. Mr Steiner spoke good English as well as German and Italian and was very helpful in providing directions around town as well as printing detailed directions to our next destination. Our room was made up each day with the beds done in a very German style that I had never seen before.
