The hotel is clean and the room not too small. there is not a proper reception area but only a small alcove in a corridor, but the owner tries his best. The bathroom was a bit dated but clean as the room. The real inconvenience is that the cleaning lady comes before 9am so woke us up every morning much earlier than we intended. The location is good, walking distance from the sea and the pedestrian street of Menton with shops and bars. It is also at 15 mins away walking from the privatly run beaches (where you can rent an umbrella and chair). There is no safe and minibar in the room which makes things a bit difficult in the summer, but considering the price, definitely lower than other central hotel, we were not unhappy with our choice. A little note, one of stops in Menton of the bus to/from Nice Airport (n.110) is very close to the hotel (by the turism office), do not get convinced by the hotel manager to walk all the way to or from the Bus station (Gare Routiere)

Be ready to sweat it out. Only 4 rooms have AC and we weren't in one, very warm in July. Pay parking about two blocks away. Close to "beach," or rocky area you can swim at. Menton caters to Italian tourists...and the "hospitality" personnel working in town are, for the most part, clearly tired of them. Restaurants are mostly italian influenced, an the french food you find is watered down. The lift broke down for a day..tough on us with a stroller and baby gear. Found hairs in our bed when we went to sleep for the first time. Would be a decent room if I paid 40 Euros.

The price we paid was far in excess of the quality and type of room offered. The street is very noisy, and it continues throught the night! No airconditioning, and maintenance is not up to standard, our room had a constantly dripping tap, and a shutter was missing completely! There were other hotels with far better prices in the area.

Booked into the hotel as Menton was a top off on the Home2Rome banger rally. Booked a twin room and was provided with a double with no alternates available a camp bed was squeezed into the room and I had a restless night. The receptionist did not know how the booking mistake happened, but at least one other group of guests there had the same problem. To make matters worse the rooms shower did not work properly or there was no hot water as it was freezing.

We stayed here for one night in mid October so it was cooler and parking was easier. The location is excellent and the staff were extremely helpful with directions and maps. The room was fine and breakfast personally served in the breakfast room. We were pleased to get a good size cup of coffee and to have access to CNN and BBC World News.

Cute room with little balcony however street noise extremely loud. This included street sweepers at 4am. When booking it said rooms were airconditioned, however upon arrival we discovered that airconditioning cost an extra 6-10 euros per night. Otherwise a nice place to stay and good location.

Rather a tired old hotel. Clean and serviceable, but with no aircon, get a room at the back or you'll have to deal with traffic noise. And they couldn't (or wouldn't) lend me an iron!

We stayed at this hotel recently and based our decision on the reviews on Venere. It did say the hotel was loud and we decided to go with it anyhow. It was not as bad as the reviews said. We were able to open our windows- contrary to one review- but the seagulls outside crow all night and they will keep you awake. The walls are paper thin and we did occasionally hear our neighbors but it was overall fine. The staff was very welcoming although at times there would be people at the desk who didn't speak any English. The shower in our room was inadequate but it was only 5 days and anyhow, when you pay for a budget hotel, you can't expect the Ritz. We were very satisfied with what we got for the price we paid. The key thing was it was easy to get to and it was very convenient to the Old Town, the train and the beach.

We stay at Richelieu at the first week in may, 2007. The hotel offers no private parking, so you had to carry vour baggage almost a long way. All three rooms we´ve booked are in bad condition: Tiny, loud and not really clean. The location is very good for a walk through the town ´cause it´s almost in the center of the town, near to the beach and the harbour.

As a small Hotel owner myself, I found the Richelieu very good value for money.Especially with the free breakfast offer. The Proprietor could not have been more helpful. We would definitely stay again.Menton itself is delightful, and the Hotel is in an excellent position, easy to get to by public transport, and very near to the sea and town.

Our stay was wonderful. A good location to take side trips by bus to the village up the mountain. Service was excellent and the staff aimed to please. The location in Menton was centrally located to the train, bus, shore and shops. We would stay there again..

Our rooms were comfortable, clean, and basic. This was our expectation and we were completely satisfied. A good value for the money. Location of hotel is good; walking distance to all points of interest in this lovely seaside town. Staff very hospitable. This was the first time we visited Menton and stayed at the Hotel Richelieu. We would gladly visit/stay again.

The rooms are very small, even for europe standards. There was roadworks going on ourside very early in the morning and late into the evening, and with no aircon it was too hot when the window was closed and there was no double glazing. However, it is only a short walk to the centre, beaches, casino et cetera. I would not recommend this hotel.

This place was fine for a short stay. It was, as stated, a short walk to the beach and restaurants although the street didn't feel particularly safe at night. Still, good value for money considering the expensive nature of the location. Just a 5 minute drive to the Italian border!

We had a great stay at this hotel. As usual we found venere efficient and accurate, although the website pictures did not do the hotel justice! All staff were welcoming and helpful and the rooms comfortable. The only downsides were the size of the shower cubicle for two biggish guys were very small!, and the fact you could hear most things going on next door to your room and outside it. This fact did not bother us though but did some other guests.

Nice hotel + room, ideally located to train + town centre, looked much better than on the photos, very friendly staff. Yes, there is street noise, but it didn't matter to me. Breakfast with croissant, baguette, toast, coffee, orange juice was € 6,-. Would choose it again.

We had a very good trip. The hotel was fine in every respect, and the room was much nicer than we expected from the internet photograph. Apart from that, the internet site and sales service were excellent. We found the hotel easily. We will definitely go back there if we return to Menton, and I will definitely use the Venere website again. Thank you.

This tiny spot, just 5 minutes from the beaches, and around the corner from the Tourist office, was a wonderful place to stay. France is noisy; here, my room, on the back side of the building, was, for the most part quiet and nice. Earplugs saved me from early morning bangs and crashes from delivery trucks and workmen. Location? Divine! The proprieters? The sweetest you could find! The price? Really reasonable for this area!
