Hotel Napoleon - Menton
29 Porte De France - Menton
877-662-6988The Cote d'Azur resort that has been an English colony since the 1890's, but it still has an Italian feel. Above many of the luxurious yachts and fishing boats, the old town rises in a tangle of small streets, tall Italian churches and pink, cream and ochre houses.
From the hotel there is direct access to the beach where one can absorb the sun's radiance while enjoying the magnificent panorama offered by the bay.
From May until September one can experience the French cuisine in the hotel's restaurant, located on its private beach, or enjoy a cool cocktail in the lounge bar.
If you are in search of some exercise why not engage in one of the nautical sports that can be endured on the beach, have a swim in the swimming pool or a work out in the gym.
Sea view rooms are horrable noisy, located to interlocal road to Italy. choose garden view room, if you want to sleep. Rest: absolutely perfect

A very well located hotel with nice surroundings. The standard rooms are clean, yet rather small. Also you can pretty well hear what happens in the room next door. :-( The pool is outdoor and has got no heating - important detail, that is not included in the hotel description. The hotel's parking facilities are really limited, available on a first come first served basis. Being a busy weekend I have been invited to park the car somewhere nearby...

Very positive, but I wouldn't like to have been in a back room as there is building work going on behind the hotel at the moment. The staff were helpful, but don't believe the lady who tells you the station is a 15 minute walk - it's more like 45 mins!

Although not very spacious, the rooms were very clean and well decorated. Unfortunately there was a lot of building work going on behind the hotel which was noisy in the early morning. The hotel receptionists were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is very close to a small supermarket and an little train station which we used for visiting Monaco. It is about a ten minute walk in to the town, but there are some good restaurants by the beach about 2 minutes walk away. The hotel pool was small but quiet and pretty and a definite bonus.

Buona accoglienza, camere spaziose, pulite e silenziose. Abbiamo soggiornato benissimo! Peccato che il parking privato dell'albergo, essendo piccolo, max 10/12 posti era già pieno e abbiamo parcheggiato nelle immediate vicinanze senza pagare.

Really gorgeous hotel. Stylish and modern bar, pool, breakfast area etc. Rooms modern and fairly spacious. Excellent facilities at the beach and restaurant across the road. Only reason I can't rate the hotel any higher is due to a couple of 'altercations' with the staff which did not get resolved to my satisfaction. FIrstly, I reserved a double room yet was given a twin and when I questioned this at reception I was treated a bit like an inconvenience. Secondly, a metal parasol hit my husband in the face and cut his cheek and bumped his head on thier private beach and the staff didn't seem too bothered.

This is a fantastic hotel, if, and only if you choose a room at the front. We wanted a quiet room at the back, and as well as the promised mountain view we also got the sights and sounds of a massive building project immediately behind the hotel, so instead of the planned 10 night stay, we left after just one night. Their attempts to solve the problem were at best half hearted. We ended up in a much better hotel for just 2 euros more per night, and with a fabulous sea view in a much bigger and quieter room.

I stayed in a sea view room and I couldn't have been closer to the sea, what a sight first thing in the morning. Look to the left and you see the port and the mountains. Look to the right and you see the old town of Menton with the church of St Michel towering above. The rooms and balconies are beautiful. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The location is exactly right, a short walk to the old town and in a very pretty position. Absloutely faultless!!!!

Lovely room facing mountains. LOT of noisy traffic on main road at front - beware! Perturbed about an entry on hotel computer that we may (or may not?) have had a meal on last night in hotel restaurant - was this a genuine mistake? No need for taxi from bus or rail station - Bus 3 to Garavan stops outside hotel (Stade) - not bad for 1 euro! Lots of eating places in town. For pizza try Vecchio Forno, but for a super meal try Le Boudoir a bit below Gare Routiere.

We usually stay at three star family owned hotels has they offer a home atmosphere. This hotel has friendly staff and are hellpful with the guest's needs and requests. I would recommend this hotel highly. However, if you bring a vehicle, there may be a problem with parking as it is first come first severed as the parking spaces at the hotel are limited. However, you really do not need a car as public transportation is adequate and the beach and old town are all within walking distance.

The hotel was far better than the 3 stars given it - all of the hotel is very well-furnished in bright colours and the beds appear new and do not sag in the middle which is not untypical of some in Europe. The only thing to watch out for is any recommendation for a local restaurant called Le Galleon (NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HOTEL) - the food is good but be careful you actually get what you ordered/expected and that the portions are realistic - ours were not. If I were the owner of the hotel I would NOT ever recommend this restaurant.

We liked this hotel. It was clean, spacious, with good service and friendly staff. It offers good value. However, it is on the edge of Menton and might not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties. If you travel by train get out at Menton Garavan, not Menton. The only other downside was the sea view was across a 4 lane road and a car park. If you like pure peace and quiet this hotel may not be for you.

Although only an overnight stay, the hotel was excellent, on the sea front and a short walk to the town. Breakfast was in or out in the small courtyard. Would use again if in the area.

A great small independant hotel. Recent renovations really help make this place seem a higher star hotel than the 3 it has. Very helpful multi-lingual staff. I'd stay here again without a doubt at all.

Overall a super stay. Hotel lovely with relaxing and beautifully furnished public areas (Venere website photos not up to date in May 04). Hotel location meant a pleasant evening walk along promenade into Menton (10 mins). A road between hotel and beach quite noisy day/evening. Double glazed rooms with air-con proved adequate against noise. Only drawback, the hotel beach restaurant & private beach closed earlier than stated (4/10/04 - re-open May 05).

My friend and I had a lovely holiday, location of hotel excellent, near to Old Town of Menton and rail link to Italy and further down the coast only round the corner. Staff very helpful, rooms at the front were a bit noisy as near the main road but excellent double glazing. We would recommend this hotel and have no hesitation in booking again.

Breakfast should have been included in the price. Better quality of breakfast in room service would be a good idea. Example no cheeses or cold meats provided-only pastries and bread. Would have no hesitation in returning and we are already planning in going back at Easter.

The hotel came as a nice suprise as it looked much better than its photos - something that rarely happens - as it had been recently renovated and looked very chic and elegant. It has excellent facilities, having a pool and a beach restaurant across the road. It's also a 5-minute walk into the main town of Menton.

If you take seaview you can see the see but also a four-lane-road - and you can hear it! Parking only for about 10 cars (the hotel has more than 40 rooms!) Beautiful hotel.

The Napoleon is a delightful, well run and tastefully decorated hotel. The downside is it's location on a very busy main road which is noisy at the front of the hotel where the pool and rooms with balcony and seaview are located. We would stay there again but choose a mountain view room which would be quieter and not incur a supplement for a scenic but noisy location.
