The location, right on the lakeside was spectacular and the ferry terminal added extra interest! The hotel was well maintained, although a little more attention to small details (e.g. charging for a very poor wifi connection)would have made it perfect.

Wonderful hotel, beautiful location, old school charm, nice staff, especially "Danny DeVito" at front desk, good restaruant. Breakfast could have been better, no OJ, not great coffee. Also, right next to boats to other towns and walking distance to charming town with newstands, etc. GREAT little convenience store next door, had EVERYTHING in a tiny space.

I stayed here two years ago and was given a room next to the lift shaft which was very noisey and we had to change rooms. Despite requesting a room away from the lift for this second visit we were still given the room directly next to the lift. After three attempts and some heated conversation with reception we were finally moved ! What was strange is that we were told the hotel was nearly empty but the staff were very reluctant to move us. The hotel is great and the location and views are fantastic but i was disappointed by the room allocation again and i am not sure if i would stay here again as i really dont want to battle with reception every time i stay. There are a couple of other lovely hotels in the area to consider.

We got to the hotel and the room we had purchased through Venere was a shoebox so we upgraded to a suite with a balcony for 90 euros more/night. Well worth it for the spacec.

The hotel was beautiful and right on Lake Como. The location is perfect, next to the ferry and a two minute walk to restaurants and shops. The pools was well maintained and staff very friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Don't be taken in by the name "Grand Hotel" - quite simply this does not apply anymore. It is a hotel of faded glories which once might have qualified as a "Grand Hotel" but not anymore. Rooms were small & in need of renovation. We had to ask to be moved from the room initially assigned to us as it was simply just too small for 2 adults & a baby (with crib) - the room we eventually were assigned had a damp damaged bathroom door & a bath that you hit your head on the ceiling everytime you got out!...The carpet on the 1st. Floor corridor was badly & extensively stained. On the plus side the service was pretty good particularly in the Veranda Restaurant where the 2 people waiting-on were superb. Breakfasts was pretty good & dinner in the Veranda Restaurant excellent. Did not eat in the main restaurant so cannot comment. Menaggio is a great place to stay for a few days whilst Bellagio is worth a visit. Whatever you do don't miss a visit (or indeed stay) across the lake at Varenna - it's still like stepping back in time.

Ideal location of main road running behind hotel with gardens, pool and finally the lake and it own jetty. Pay the extra for a lake view, it really is stunning. No balconies though but floor length opening double windows and the mini bar made for a romantic setting.Adjacent to ferry landing, try across the lake to Bellagio and Varenna for a day out.Typically a very English hotel more suited to older couples though isn`t the whole area?

Excellent Hotel but must have rooms lake facing at back of hotel. Hotel meals excellent. Didn't like people putting towels on sun loungers at 8:00am and then not turning up until 11:00am. Hotel should have a policy on this.

Hotel lovely, position beautiful, staff v helpful. Had a special birthday celebration there, and staff couldn't have been more helpful. Printing special menus, making a cake and setting a table for our 16 guests on the terrace for dinner. Lovely. Only critisism is with Venere. We booked online with them and when telephoned the hotel to confirm booking was told that my room was not booked. When I booked, I was quoted a price for a superior double with lake view and balcony, 260 euros per night with breakfast. As far as I was concerned that was what I had booked and I had the confirmation from Venere online and printed it out. The hotel did find me a room suitable to requirement but charged me 300 euros per night. I stayed 7 nights so a substantial difference. All other rooms booked at the same time were confirmed. Perhaps Venere could explain how this happened and why I was charged so much more. Carol Hatton.

Room we received was next to very noisy elevator and window that opened to a very busy street. We did not get any sleep. Hotel staff didn't really care and offered to options. We left and stayed at another hotel.

We had a bad experience here. Our welcome was cold and obnoxious and the room reserved was only provided to us after we made a big fuss. The woman at the front desk is only one of the reasons we would never return to this hotel. Other than the bar employees and the service and friendliness we experienced the staff appeared to care less about hospitality and our comfort. To say the least, we were VERY displeased by our experience at this hotel and would not recommend it to others.

This hotel is nice and lovely located but expensive regarding to the category, the city and the period of the year. But in Menaggio, it's the best one you could find.

We booked a balcony room. On the website it said all rooms had whirlpool spa. This wasn't true you could choose a spa or a shower. we ended up choosing a shower room because the balcony was better positioned. The bathroom was very small and no light over the shower so it was in the dark! But otherwise the hotel was lovely, fabulous location right next to the ferry. The staff could have put smiles on their faces but otherwise very competent.

We had a wonderful view overlooking the lake, but there is a discoteque virtually next door making it impossible to get a decent night's sleep.

Very very disappointing. We paid a high price for a 4* hotel. What we got was 3* facilities, surly service and bland production line food. Reading the guest book, we were not alone in this view. I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
