Hotel Sassi - Matera

Room and wievs were nice, fast internet connection adds pluses, but dragging bags first down stairs for some 200m and then next day upstairs same 200m till car was not fun at all... You have to be in good health and with strong legs and prefereaby with very light bags to stay there. Staff was very welcoming and breakfest very good.

The vista was amazing. The room were clean but the furniture was from a single star hotel, not a three star one, and always full of humidity. The bathroom was very, very, very tiny. Breakfast had poor variety of food and there were very little replacement. A guy in the staff didn't even help us pick the luggages up. Overall, quite a disappointing stay

I loved the Hotel Sassi. I felt that I was in a cave, and the room with view was very clean and confortable. Good breakfast. Great location, and the Brazilian manager very nice and very helpful. I enjoyed my stay in Matera very much, and I will be coming back and I will stay again @ Sassi Hotel.

We only stayed in Matera 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. Both the office and dining staff could not have been more helpful. It was a most interesting experience.

Wonderful location, must visit Sassi! We stayed 30 may 2011, was raining most of the time, but Sassi worth seeing in any weather. Hotel is situated at the top of Sassi historic village, overlooking the site. We stayed in room no 508, with a terrace facing the Sassi. The room was quite small and humid, but totally accept as it is in the old cave house. Just a shame the doors are thin, so could hear people in the bar (room close to the bar) and nabour kids. Another downside of the old building was the tiny little ants that we were eaten by.... overall, take protective spray from the insects if u wish to stay there, or stay anywhere near the Sassi and POP in to Sassi hotel fotlr a drink, the downstairs restaurant is in a big old cave. You will be able to explore the Sassi in a day. By the way we paid 90eu per night.

Great hotel. Rooms are fantastic, and they are located in the actual sassi. Front-desk staff was friendly. The breakfast was excellent. May be difficult to get to for older people or people with disablities, as there are stairs involved since it is right in the heart of the sassi district.
