Classic french small hotel - and I like that - with updated facilities (good radio, TV, bath etc.) not at all your large international chain. The area is 'interesting' but conveniently situated between the railway station and the old port. Good transport facilities and a useful Monoprix food market opposite besides the many arab food shops.

Room was very nice and clean. Hotel is in centre, 5 minutes walking to old port, next to shopping district. Right next to hotel is some strange street, but it doesn't spoil much the overall impression. Close to hotel is very good sea food restaurant.

We stayed in Marseille for two nights. The hotel was located within walking distance of everything we wanted to see during our stay and was close to restaurants and shops. Both bedroom and bathroom were generous and comfortable and the hotel pleasant although a little drab. The service was adequate.

The free wi-fi was hardly for use in my floor and some stray animals made noise while the night, but not big deal. Really good location of the hotel I think.

There is a flight of stairs to climb from the main street which if you have heavy cases, makes things difficult. There is a lift once you get to the 1st floor.

Very spacious room for family of 4, but very noisy location with the windows open. Very close to the harbor and major shopping street. We found an excellent restaurant close by for lunch and got a good recommendation from the desk clerk for dinner.

Stayed for 3 nights in July 2008. Good hotel with excellent seafood restaurant just across the street. Noisy and somewhat rough street although felt safe as there were always lots of people around. Clean room with good bathroom. We stayed on the same level as reception so it was quite busy. Free internet provided with French version keyboard. 10min walk to Old Port which was very convenient. Would stay there again.

Not a pleasant area to stay as the streets were dirty and at street level of the hotel there was a diry bar. This bar had no association with the hotel but was frequented throughout the day and night with what appeared to be 'heavy drinkers'. Although this was a convenient location for the Centre/Vieux Port, I would not recommend it. The W.C. could have benefitted with a serious dose of bleach.

This was a great value and filled our needs perfectly. As mentioned in another review, you have to go up a flight of stairs to get to the lobby and the lift. The room was clean and spacious compared to others we stayed in. It is a quick walk from the hotel to Vieux Port, and was ~10-15 minutes walk from the train station. This was the first time we stayed at Hotel Saint Louis, and I would stay there again if I ever go back to Marseille.

We only stayed for one night at Hotel St. Louis, but this was the one hotel on our whole itinerary that we wished we could have stayed longer!Nice decorated inside the hotel as well as the rooms and the location is excellent. About 5 min walk to the docks. Would definitely stay there again!

We did not receive a service oriented attitude from the hotel. Because of a delayed flight, we had to cancel our reservation with Hotel St Louis. In spite of our proposal to change our reservation for a later date, the hotel insisted on charging us full rate for the night we had to cancel, which, for our family, meant quite a few euros. We would have appreciated a more negociable attitude. We will not choose St Louis again and for obvoius reasons, we will give the hotel a mid-rate of 5.

Excellent Location, OK Hotel- But Beware the Steps! Hotel St. Louis is a prefectly adequate 2-star hotel once you enter it - but to enter it you must drag your luggage up 21 steps, as reception and elevator are on what Europeans call the first floor, i.e., one flight up, a fact not indicated in the hotel description. Only the desk clerk was on duty when we checked in and when we left, and no one was available to help with luggage. Therefore I would recommend this hotel only for the young and able-bodied, or for those traveling light. Wi-fi connection did not work well in our room on the top (5th) floor, but availability of PC in the lobby mitigated that problem. Double pane windows did a good job of shutting out street noise, but when someone played TV in the next room, it could be heard. Mattress quality was above average.

Nice hotel in the centre of Marseille. We had a triple, which was big enough for three. Staff was friendly and room was clean. Recommended.
