Average budget hotel - clean, friendly enough, though crowded tiny en-suite room with everything for a studio apartment shoved into a shoe box. Big pluses - free wifi in the room, cable TV, kettle with coffee/tea/cocoa. Big minuses - the street it is on is Marseille's unofficial red light district -- prostitutes sitting out on stools all day long, and you can sometimes hear their business going on outside your window through the neighborhood's shared courtyard. Oddly enough, it's better at night. Even if there weren't a whorehouse next door, the location isn't the best. You can walk everywhere from there, it's kind of central, but it's not actually too near anything.

Basic Accommodation at a Good Price! Not far from the Old Port and Train Station although its not the best street, there are a few ladies of the night but they wont hassle you! The room itself has a TV, fridge, Wardrobe, small kitchenette with sink and coffee/tea making facilities! Bathroom is small and just about usable in terms of space however there is no proper door, just a curtain. I wouldn't recommend this to a group of friends staying here or if you don't know the person you're staying with all that well! Friendly Staff. Didn't try their breakfast, we went to a cute cafe/chocolatier down the main street.

Hotel is clean ,well cared for and quiet. Our room was air conditioned. Service was helpful and courteous. Hotel is on steep narrow street, rue Curiol and close to main street, Canebiere. The few "ladies" referred to by other respondents just sit on their doorsteps and chat; they are not a nuisance at all. we think this is excellent value.

I would recommend this hotel only to those who like the excitement of being in the ghetto.

First time in Marseille, the Hotel owner was perfect translating for me as my French is poor. Good area for being in the centre of the tourist part of Marseille, 2 min walk to the port, 3-4 min's to the closest beach, train and bus also close. Popular area for ladies of the night who are extremely polite and well mannered for their line of work! Even breakfast is served to you and its not in short supply. Varying places to eat only a few minutes walk away. And yes, i would definately go there again.

This was a nice hotel. I had some problems with the hot water in the room on the first day but this was sorted out. The hotel is about 10-15 minutes walk from the Vieux Port but there are plenty of buses or trams available on the Canebiere to take you down there if you don't want to walk. The major shopping areas streets are about 10 minutes down the Canebiere. Breakfast was nice with fresh pastries, fresh orange juice and a choice of tea, coffee or chocolate. The staff were helpful and nice. Some people have mentioned the ladies of the night on the street near the hotel but once they were aware I was staying in the hotel they didn't talk to me...well, except to wish me Bonjour and Bonsoir!

The Rue Corbuil is an area of open prostitution so I would not recommend this hotel for families.

Nice people, good breakfast but sorry - this is not a good place to stay. The accommodation was cramped, especially in the bathroom. The worst thing was the lack of soundproofing - you could hear telephone conversations (and more intimate things!) from the other rooms. We did not enjoy our stay. I think the staff are trying hard, but they should reduce the price for this standard of accommodation.

Taxi driver was right, "Good hotel, bad neighborhood." There was loud music at night from the nearby club. The breakfast area was jammed up and we had to wait for seating. The rooms were nice for the price.

Management very helpful giving us computer walking directions to a splendid restaurant. Tea making equipment in our room which was warm and roomy with a very comfortable bed. Easy walk to and from the station. Area may seem rough but we walked back from le rue Trois Rois after 10pm and had no problems. Will stay there again

Made a booking on the day of travel for my son who was in Nice. The person i spoke to on the phone spoke good english and was extremely polite and helpful. My son was pleased that the room was very clean and comfortable and although he left very early for the airport he was complimentary about the friendliness of both the person on reception when he arrived rather late and the person he dealt with on his departure. All in all good value for money. Having stayed at other hotels in the South of France he would recommend it for anybody visiting the area.

hôtels surroundings quoted 4 only because of the immediates surroundings (street...) but an excellent location with Cannebière and Vieux Port at very short walking range. very nice place in Marseille and very helpful "native" guests

The hotel is in an unattractive area, but just a few minutes' walk from the Vieux Port and Cours Julien. Excellent breakfast, no other meals, but there are plenty of restos near the port. Hotel employees and owner were very friendly, helpful and reliable. I felt entirely safe, despite the "ladies" on the street. My room was very small.

Grillon was decent for the price we paid (80 Euros). It was basic, clean, quick walk to the train station and Vieux Port. However, the street was a little dark and slightly seedy at night; it was fine walking with someone else but I wouldn't walk it alone at night as a woman. Also, while our room had a little sink, oven and fridge, it did not have a door on the bathroom! And while the windows were nice and big but we didn't open them at night because there are rooftops so close, it felt a bit dangerous. Finally, no elevator so you walk up the winding, narrow staircase with your luggage.

hotel staff very friendly and helpfull. Do not get a taxi from the bus station to the hotel, barely in the taxi and we were charged 28 euros. Once we got maps it was only a 10 min walk. There are prostitutes in the street, they do not bother the tourists

I´ve really enjoyed my stay in the hotel. So much, that I came back one week later! Staff is very friendly and ready to help. Rooms are very clean and cosy. The Hotel is very well located -and the neigbourhood, it´s a bit strange, but take it easy and give them a smile, I felt very safe- and I´m hopefully and think I´ll come back soon to magnifique et bizarre Marseille and this place! And I say thank you for this pleasant stay! Michaela
