Basic digs in a lively, colourful area with a touch of the dubious. Walking distance from train station. Nothing special here, good for sleeping and windows block out street noise. OK.

Reception friendly and helpful, but lift was broken and we were on the 3rd floor! Tiny room but adequate for 1 night stay. Would not feel safe out late at night in this area, but OK earlier on. Handy to railway station - can walk.

Very happy with hotel, close to station St Charles without actually being in a run down area, good too for wonderful market, Rue Canebiere and 5 mins from main shopping streets, 10 from Vieux Port. Caught Noailles metro to Prado area to go to seaside so all in all very well placed. Reception very helpful with maps and advice [and ioniser to clear the air in room smelling of smoke, not hotels fault]. I recommend Hotel Lutetia.

Excellent city center location. Hotel seems to have been refurbished quite recently (walls, double-glazing windows...) but wall painting in the rooms and furniture are already rather degraded.

A very comfortable hotel for the price. Very close to the railway station and easy walking distance of the Old Port. Breakfast a little pricey, but good quality and more than adequate. We would certainly use again.

Really handy to the train station, and a really nice place. Overall, though, we felt uncomfortable in Marseille, and so this hotel was a bit of a refuge for us! Were only there one night so might have been a bit more relaxed and used to it if we'd stayed longer. Free internet in the lobby was fantastic. If I went back I'd definitely stay here again.

The Hotel Lutetia forfilled my expectations and needs for my stay in Marseille. The room was in need of a bit of redecoration, but overall not too bad. The recepetion staff were very helpful and polite and spoke all spoke English.Breakfast was ok but not worth 8 euros. The centre of Marseille was within easy walking distance and there was the tram down the main drag.

We were in town for three nights and had a very tight budget. This hotel is next to a few others, just off Canebiere Street and adjacent to the Saint Vincent de Paul church. The location is rather gritty and we didn't feel comfortable wandering late at night, but it's close to Vieux Port and there is a great pizza shop "Chez Noel" just behind the hotel (but in front of the church). The hotel is also a short walk from the train station and Cours Julien, a recommended bohemian and cafe heavy area. There is also a small grocery around the corner. The staff were helpful and all spoke english. We did not eat breakfast there but it seemed to be a robust offering. The hotel is great but the location is very urban.

We chose to pass on the breakfast and instead visited the market and picked up picnic makings. The hotel room was very comfortable and although our window opened to the street there was a pleasant ambiance in the neighborhood and it was reasonably quiet.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpfull. Breakfast very good. Room a little small if you were staying a long time- however supplied a double bed as requested. Location near to main centre and within easy walking of the Port. Recommended- would stay again as the price was very resonable.

A great, clean and well maintained little hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Yes, if you have lots of luggage, squeezing into the lift may be problematical but it's a small detail. Well placed for the train station, shopping district and Cours Julien which is one of the more tranquil, 'cafe-society' parts of the city. A longer walk to Playa des Catalans, the nearest small strip of beach but still accessible. Good bus service if you prefer or want to visit the beaches further away.

Good location if you need to be near to the train station as it's only 5 mins walk, and very easy to find - if not, then you may wish to be in more 'up-market' areas of town (the La Corniche area is absolutely beautiful, for example, but a little further out of the city centre area). The rooms are all very small and neat. Quite a few drunk types hanging around the local streets in the evenings(typical of a big city), but it's quite safe. We stayed for 3 nights in September 2008, and would stay again as it was well priced and worked well for our needs i.e. close to station so we could go on day trips. Probably wouldn't recommend this hotel for persons with children due to area / room sizes. Staff were all nice, helpful and friendly.

I was really impressed by the friendliness of the employees working at the hotel. They were extremely helpful and made our stay really enjoyable. The only things which bothered me about the hotel were the lack of space and the noise coming from outside since the hotel is located in a busy area. Otherwise, it was a very positive experience!

While we booked the 'traditional' double we were upgraded to room 505, definitely the best room in the hotel and worth the premium (which we didn't have to pay!). With a terrace view over to Notre Dame de la Garde it was ideal to sit out in the heat. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Highly recommended

I was traveling with my 25-year-old son, and we both were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It is located within walking or short tram ride to the train station, Old Port, or central shopping/social area in Marseille, and easy access to other places where we visited. The hotel is well-run, thoughtfully appointed and serviced (e.g. good bathroom facilities, internet and reading area in lobby), and the room was compact but completely adequate.

Sweet, petite Hotel Lutetia, amazingly small lift - only 2 people. Area a bit dodgy, watched cops from our room visiting the neighbours but it is a safe hotel and it is after all Marseille. Great for the back packer.

When we arrived, we were greeted by a staff who cant speak a single english word....so we talked like deaf and dumb. our room was on the fifth floor...yet the lift was not working. so we have to carry our luggage to the fifth floor...!!! the location is in the big street, but it is close to where youngsters hang around in the night....the bathroom is clean, but the bedcover and the upholstery need urgent refurbishment.

Lutétitia was a really nice hotel. It is not far away from the train station (and the bus stop) that it is excellent for young travellers that are arriving by public traffics. The staff is quite competent. They are always friendly and open for your questions.

Unfortunately I could stay only one night.A little noise because it's near busy road. Check out Chez Picone(out, right onto Canabiere, just across the road.)Also Hacienda in port area. Canabiere a bit dug up at the moment. Will look special when work is completed in 2007. I'll be back in July. Question: Why,if you're not French,do people automatically conclude that you are English? Notice the change in attitude when they discover you're Irish!

We thought the price paid for a location very close to the port was very reasonable and the rooms were small but clean. The 24 hr free internet helped with our opinion also. The only small problems we had had to do with the noise from the old elevator and the type of area were were in which we also realize now is almost impossible to get away from.

The hotel was corresponding to what we were looking for. The rooms were clean and tidy and the price was reasonable. However, we found our room a bit small. The employees were really welcoming. The hotel is not located in the best area, but is close to the old port of Marseille and there is a secure parking just at 50m. Also claustrophobics avoid the lift!
