On the one hand, the price was right, the bed was amazingly comfortable and clean, and the owner very friendly and flattering ("You don't look your age!"). On the other hand, he took my cash when I checked in, failed to give me a receipt, and then expected me to pay when I checked out. I ended up waiting while he and another worker (his daughter, maybe?) counted through their proceeds from the day before to see if the numbers added up, and they eventually let me go, but that pretty much soured me on the place (and lesson learned - ALWAYS request a receipt, no matter how friendly the reception). To be fair, it was almost certainly an honest mistake, so if you're looking for a cheap place to crash for a single night, it's fine.

Basic hotel, You actually get what you pay for. arrived about 11pm streets were full of litter and hotel was in poor area. Just before we got to the hotel on the actual street a rat ran in front of us. Hotel was not easily marked. area presented a brighter cleaner safer face in the daytime, however the price for this was the sound of cleaning the street which seemed to go on all night and was very very noisy.

Fue el hotel más costoso en mi recorrido por el sur de Francia y el que ofreció la habitación más pequeña, poco acogedora y ruidosa.

I stayed 5 days in Marseille. Hotel HM is extremely well located: right in the city centre, in a quiet street just off the Canebiere, close to the Vieux Port and to the St Charles train and bus station. They are renovating the hotel's façade for the moment, but that's not really disturbing. Nice rooms, although the bathroom is tiny, but very clean. The (self service) breakfast was good value: 5 EUR for orange juice, a big croissant, half a baguette with butter and jam and real coffee! Lots of TV channels too, but who needs a TV when there's Marseille, the Frioul islands, Aix-en-Provence, Cassis and the calanques waiting to be explored?

The young lady in charge of reception during the day was excellent, very polite and helpful. The young man in charge in the evening was verging on sarcasm sometimes. We were given an inadequate room when we arrived and he showed displeasure when we told him that it would be impossible to remain in such a room for six days. We did offer to pay extra in order to obtain a better room. Presumably a manager during the day sorted it out and eventually we were given a room that was adequate. The website should also forewarn guests that the hotel is being refurbished. Heater in room was not working most of the time.

The HM Hotel is very conveniently located near old port Marseilles. Just a short block off Rue Cambriere it is surprizingly quiet. We arrived early (just after noon) and found our room ready. While small, the room was clean and well maintained. The reception is one-flight up with no elevator. This may be an impediment for some. Higher floors are reachable by a small elevator from the reception (we used it for our luggage). After checkout, they helpfully stored our bags until we were ready to leave Marseilles later that day. We recommend this hotel for able-bodied tourists in search of a clean room, good value and great location.

The Hotel HM is a budget hotel, nothing more, nothing less. If you expect any comfort, don't book it. If you need basic accommodation though it's a good place to stay. It's quite cheap, very central, and offers free wireless internet. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is cheap and OK. However, the rooms are really small and basic, the same with the shower.

Room small and basic, but location very good; therefore value good. Assistance from young female 'receptionist' in relation to local info and internet flight check in first class. I would recommend on this basis.

Stayed in Marseille for 2 days. This hotel is good for a short stay. Didn't like the mold on the bathroom floor or the stained cieling, but for the price and location, it was worth it. The front desk was very nice and let us check in early after our long train ride.Right next to a scary neighborhood. Don't stay out late/alone!

Hotel HM is cheap. Nothing great, don't expect anything for the price. The toilet was pretty big for European standards, and decent for the price of the room. Internet is decent as well. The room I had was a lot smaller than it appears in the photos, mainly because of the design of the room... it's a weird L-shape where there's a long, narrow corridor that leads to the window, but is too narrow to be used as anything. The lift/elevator is really small, barely enough for 1 person w/ a backpack. Pack light. There are no closets, just odd shelves that don't look that sturdy. Over-all, it's pretty ok for the price, and the location is 2 min walk from Vieux Port so that's a plus.

Hotel is small, and rooms are even smaller. The bed took up the entire room, and I barely fit in the bathroom. You have to walk up the stairs to get to the hotel, and the elevator (from the hotel floor) fits one person and suitcase if you're lucky. The best part is the location, just a 5 min walk to the Vieux Port and lots of restaurants.

The hotel is situated in the heart of the city of Marseille, that means it is close to bus/metro stops, restaurants and night clubs, however it is a bit far from the beach, at a 5 minute bus ride. Nevertheless, we were nicely surprised with the Hotel HM, the rooms were spacious enough to fit not only a twin bed - but a bunk bed as well comfortably. The bathrooms were very big and clean, and the room had anything you would expect (TV, telephone, balcony...) in a surprisingly cheap accomodation. It can get very hot at Marseille in summer, so we appreciated very much the air conditioning. we de On the other hand, there wasn't an elevator untill reception (that is the 1rst floor) and the towels provided were very little. We truly recommend this place to anyone who is looking forward to visit the city, We would have never imagined satying in such place with the money we payed.

The guy at the front desk was extremely helpful and friendly. When we called him, lost, he gave us useful directions. On arriving at the hotel, he was very nice and chatty, giving us suggestions on activities in Marseille. He let us leave our luggage in the hotel lobby so that we wouldn't have to drag it with us all over the city. He offered us free drinks, and even looked up the weather for us at his internet. He was a really nice man.
