This was a terrible place to stay. The room was horrid (a triple) and we wished we had booked 2 doubles with the hope they may be better. The room stank of cigarettes with copious amounts of Frebreeze used to try and cover it up. The window opened onto a alley with numerous air cons and looked into the rooms next door. The room's air con didn't work and the toilet was blocked. But the worst thing was the fleas....we barely got any sleep and all woke up with fleas bites. The location was great but there are so many hotels in this area that we could not recommend this one at all.

Everything was really great, except for one important aspect of my stay. My room overlooked the harbor - great view but the street noise was horrible - all night long. Even with the window closed, it was very difficult to sleep. Luckily I had earplugs from the flight over - still that was not a good solution. I think you should consider putting in some windows with sound insulation.

Hotel is fine, smack dab in the middle of the lively Old Port area, very convenient to Old Marseilles, and comfortable. When in town be sure to take a bus south and east along the corniche and visit of couple of the beach and park areas. The views of the sea and the coast are remarkable. The views from Notre Dame are also eye-popping.

The best thing about this place is the location. The views from rooms on the front are great. Room was small but adequate, and reasonably clean. The worst thing was getting to the parking, and the two flights of stairs to get to the lift with the bags. Staff was quite nice and helpful. A reasonable basic hotel.

Excellent location on the Quai des Belges at the end of the vieux port. Clean, quiet room; friendly and helpful staff. Access could be a problem for older or mobility-challenged clients: two storeys from street-level before one can use the elevator. Quite a challenge with heavy luggage.

This hotel is right on the veux port and with our very short stay, made if very convenient to explore what we could of Marseille. Our room was newly remodeled and very clean. It was our smallest room on our entire European vacation but was definitely far from the worst. The old man at the front desk was very nice as well. Nothing bad to say about this place.

Everything was fine. Excellent location and very friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms. But, the rooms with a "view on the courtyard" really do not have a view and the natural light is therefore very limited. For this reason, the air is dry and stuffy. I suggest the slightly more expensive rooms with a view on the old port. Otherwise, everything was very good.

It's worth paying a bit more for the rooms with the view to the port!! Rooms are bigger and the view is wonderful!

A central place right at the old port and near the metro stop, about 1Km from the train station. right in the place of many restaurants/coffee houses/bars/small shops. Near by is the exit for the boat trips to the Calanques and Chateau d'Iff (recommended half-day tours). Nearby passes the bus (or the 1Km walking trail) to the famous cathedral of Marseille which is an amazing observation point for the whole coast area. Recommended for a half-day tour. Nice deprtment stores (such as Gallery Lafayette) and shops are in a walking distance, and the streets seemed safe even at night. The rooms seemed renovated and clean. Nice bathroom. There was no noise from the outside but some sound penetrates from the neighboring rooms and corridor. The breakfast is payed seperately and I prefered to eat outside. The staff was very helpful. One weak point is that the elevator starts only from the second flor, so you have to climb two stairs. There are cheaper hotels then this one, however, they are not so well located in the center of action. Therefore, I think that this hotel provides a good value considering its location.

Alizé was a pleasant surprise! The hotel is easy to find (huge green neon letters on the facade), and yes: you have to take 10 to 20 steps to reach the reception desk (might be a problem if you are in a wheelchair; but no great deal otherwise). the welcoming was very friendly, the room with harbour view was very tidy, clean, the bathroom was furnished in a very modern way (looked brand new to me) and the shower even had 6 massage jets and a waterfall type shower! Although there is much traffic around the harbour, the modern sealed french windows (about 2,5 meters high) kept all noise outside. Extra bonus: free WiFi in ALL rooms! I didn't try breakfast as there are many bars and fast food places in the vicinity of the hotel. Restaurant areas (try the Bouillabaise!), taxis, ATM, post office etc. are all within a few seconds walking distance. I would certainly rate the Alizé higher than 2 stars (they probably lost one star due to the lack of an elevator from the ground floor to the reception).

Our "double room" was smaller than any single that I ever stayed; neighbour's window was 1.5 m in front and the window opened into fully enclosed "courtyard" (even with a plastic roof - a box, in fact) of some 6-8 sq m.. Could not sleep at all. Changed a room next day, not much better, however. Seems that any info available on the site refers to the rooms facing the port.

Beware: lift begins on 1st floor. You must haul your own bags up a flight of stairs before coming to the reception area, then up another half flight of stairs to the lift. Our room had a nice remodeled bath, but there was no shower curtain. You cannot stand up to shower--water will splash everywhere. The bed was a little soft to our liking, but we had a great view of the port.

Very good location (port, restaurants), was offered a port-view room for the same price as the normal one (low season). Breakfast was quite ok, better than usual in France. Definitely a good value for money, I didn't believe that was a 2 star hotel. Entrance could be a bit tricky to find - the hotel is located on top of the Hippopotamus restaurant

Great location on the Vieux Port and views over it. Main problem is TWO flights of steep stairs before you reach the lift. If you want a double bed, say so in your reservation, otherwise you may not get one.

If you're looking for a budget hotel that will give you excellent value (and great location) for money : you want to stay @ Hotel Alizé. Ideally located right outside Metro station at Vieux Port, you're at the BEST spot if you want to visit Marseille, go to the beaches (take bus 83 10' hop the bus and you are at Plage des prophètes) or explore the Frioul or Chateau d'if from the pier right accross the Hotel. Besides the hotel has been totally renovated in 2006, offering in particular very quiet rooms though not really spacy.

The view on the vieux port, throught the narrow window, was pleasant and the room was clean but poorly decorated that made a sad atmosphere (especially the bathroom). The staff was not very friendly and breakfast was a bit poor. The price is rather hight compared to similar french towns, so price/quality ratio was not very good.

We got a room in the backside of the port. The room itself was small, but clean and quiet. The only thing made trouble was the air conditioner, it was broken and was noisy after being on for 20 min - therefore we didnt sleep quite well - do remember to try the air-contioner first after your check in. Everything else was good especially the location.

A great hotel, the surroundings on the Quai de Belges were excellent. The rooms located at the front had soundprrof windows as the were heavy traffic around the clock outside the hotel. The room was difficult to access, as the lift started at the 2nd floor. But! Clean and nice. My views of the hotel can also be found in my food and travel blog, Enjoy Food & Travel (http://tojoh.blogspot.com). I highly recommend the Brasserie La Coupole in the nearby Rue Haxo for lunch. Do also try the Marrocan restaurant Un Éscale de Marrakech on the left side of Vieux Port.

This hotel has an excellent location. Its close to the more touristy area and the metro station, and far enough away from the "questionable neighbourhood" near the train station. I also found my room was quiet despite the noisy neighbourhood. The room was on the small side, and not suitable for someone who would spend a lot of time in the room, but it was perfect as a base for us as we spent the whole day exploring.

A room on the front overlooking the Vieux Port was an absolute delight. This hotel has the best position of all the surrounding hotels. For the price the standard was very good.you get what you pay for in terms of room comfort but the position is fantastic with plenty of bars outside the front entrnce for breakfast and a night cap.

This is a no-frills hotel, more like a hostel really, but the perfect choice if you want to be right in the old port, and are not concerned about the awful noise that seems to go on all night in Marseille. The rooms are very adequate in size and spotlessly clean, and the service, though basic, is friendly and efficient. Very good value considering the central location.

We liked the location of the hotel to the attractions of Marseilles. We felt very safe and the room was sufficient for our needs, though a little small. The hotel staff was excellent. They gave us helpful information about the sites and the best ways to travel. They even went out of thier way to help us know if our train was on strike or not. It was the best service we had on our trip.

We were very satisfied with our stay at Alizé. It is very central with a view out on the old port (from some rooms), there are bars and restaurants just below the hotel, and great shopping in the streets just behind it. The room was clean and quiet. The staff didn't speak English but were friendly and professional. We got exactly what we expected for a relatively low price.

The room was very very small and without character and the whole hotel seemed to be leaning one way. The breakfast was above average for the price and was served until 11am every day. The price with Venere.com was not anyt cheaper than booking with the hotel directly.
