Staff were efficent but not very welcoming on arrival. Room appeared fine at first, basic but clean with a good shower. Unfortunately the sky light in the room starting leaking during the night. The constant dripping kept me awake.

Hi Hotel room was dirty, the air conditioning was not working so this caused the room to be very hot and unbearable. Causing clostrophobia, also having no windows. The shower area was filthy. We have stayed with Brittania hotels before and never experienced this situation. We will not be going back their. For the price we paid, it was a nightmare. Our break was ruined. I will be passing this on to my friends who regularly visit Manchester every year. Do not stay their. Marion Randell

The hotel is very beautifull and the staff very kind and professional but the problem regards the quitness of the rooms: the hotel is situated up to a club and the music is so loud that you have no possibility to sleep; when another room shuts the door is like they are throwing a bomb in yours and if like happend to us you have noisy people in the room next is like they are making party in your room

Nice reception staff, nice room even thought a little bit of street noise because of a night club entrance down the building but not a big deal. The room was clean, comfortable and with free wifi. I will definitely come back to this hotel for my next stay in manchester (if there is a good deal!!)

Location of hotel is very central, and service and clealiness generally good. My stay would have merited a higher overall rating but for the lack of sound-proofing in the room I stayed in, no 46. The club beneath kept up its very loud music making sleep impossible until after 1.30 am, when the music ended.

We paid a very good price £48 for a Saturday night, the hotel is very central which makes going to the city or football easy, even if returning late. The TV reception was DREADFUL which put a damper on the stay. Very nice hotel for the price and would go again.

(+) Central location, beautiful historical building, great interiors, clean spacious room and bathroom. Good value for money! (-) Not very welcoming stuff (seemed like they are too busy to give you enough attention) NB. Breakfast for extra price (however there are tea/coffee facilities in the room and even) some cookies)

We arrived at around 20.00 to be told that our room wasn't ready as there was a problem with the bathroom. We had to wait in the bar area until it was sorted which was around 21.00 until we could check in & go to our room. This meant that we were late out & missed some of the event we were staying for. The staff were good but they didn't even offer to pay for a drink for us while we waited. The room was big enough for all three of us & was good quality. The best bit about this hotel is the location as you can get to the bars, clubs, shopping areas & all around central Manchester by foot. It was a great base for staying in this city. I think that all types of people would enjoy staying here as it is in a great situation. It is a shame that our stay started so badly.

We were a group of 7 football supporters that traveled to Manchester. We got a god welcoming besides some issues in regards of room keys not working and smell of paint due to the ongoing upgrade of the hotel. But overall we were pleased with the "Victorian" atmosphere and the location of the hotel. Bulls eye here. And the service was above normal compared to my earlier stays in UK. Recommended for any football fans traveling to Manchester.

Whwn I arrived I had to wait for a long time to check in. Then my keycard didn´t function, and I had to go all the way back to get this sorted out. When I at last got in to my room it was the hottest (wasn´t possible to turn the heat off), smallest and the most noisy( a large fan of some sort was partly built in the room with a terrible noise) room I ever have experienced. I complained the next day and was offered a better room which I accepted. I booked this room two months in advance and think that the hotel should have offered me a better room, I presume they put me in this terrible room because I was a woman travelling alone and had booked a single room.

This hotel has a lot of character, but unfortunately the service doesn't match it. Broken lifts, failure to clean rooms, problems with check in all contributed to a poor experience. Pity, excellent look and good location, but good service is essential.

As you walk in past the reception area it looks like a really plush hotel. However, the rooms did not live up to that standard. For example the wall paper was peeling of the walls in my room. I also tried to phone reception on 3 occassions and no one picked up the phone.
