Hotel Reviews Preciados
Young couple
Austria, Oct 2009
The location of the hotel is excellent. Unfortunately at the end of October there was still a lot of construction work going on in Calle Preciados. But as they are in the final stages the disturbance by the loud noise should soon be over. All in all the hotel is very nice and as a special plus I am rating the Radio (hidden in the wall above the bed) with loudspeakers also in the bathroom where you can tune in to the best Radio Stations in Spain (especialls Maxima FM) while taking a shower!!!

I have stayed at several hotels in Madrid and I can honestly say that the Preciados was heads and shoulders above the rest. I felt that the rooms were exactly as represented...nice size, clean, modern, well appotinted and VERY reasonably priced. The staff was fantastic! I had some travel problems and ended up having to arrive 2 days later than my original arrival date and was easily and graciously accomodated by the staff. There was no issue or extra charge for missing my earlier arrival. The staff was very friendly and helpful on all accounts. The location is wonderful...close to all major attractions with metro station a 2 minute walk away. I will definitely be back at the Preciados on my next visit to Madrid!

We've stayed at Hotel Preciados for a weekend and It has been a very good experience. The people at the reception has been very helpful to our requests, for example when we asked for a resturant they suggested one and booked a table for us. The room was very clean and confortable. And the position of the hotel is very nice to reach in few minutes all the principal attractions in Madrid. I definitely suggest it to all kind of travellers.

The rooms were excellent and very quiet. The bathroom was elegant and spacious. The surrounding area (street & sidewalks) was being repaved and turned into a pedestrian walk-way. It was noisy & difficult to navigate. I assume that this will change quickly.

Great position, in the very middle of Madrid. The breakfast could be better, if the staff simply get enough food to the bufet. During my stay, several times they ran out of scrambled eggs, bacon and ham.

Good location for the centre, room bar contents refreshed every day and included in room price. At back of hotel so quiet. Used tube from airport, but had pull suitcases, bit of a walk to hotel. Beware pick pockets who help you with luggage while taking your money.

Hotel was is well located rite in the heart of Madrid. For those who don't like to move by car, but walking , bus or metro, it's great location. Gran via is just steps away, Callao metro station is one block from Hotel. Personnel was very courteus. We really enjoyed our stay

excelente es mi definición de este hotel, amplio, limpio, atención cinco estrellas, céntricos, nevera libre(agua y jugos), baño amplio y con todos los accesorios necesarios lo recomiendo.

Great hotel. My only quibble is that I was in an inward facing room (401), with no external window. My window looked over stairs and an internal area. Not a big problem as I was there for work, but I would have asked for a change had it been a holiday. Otherwise, a great hotel in a great city. Go there!

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. the location is great, close to everything, breakfast is wonderful, the bed is comfortable, the rooms spacious (I am average height and build). I plan on staying there again the next time i am in town.

The Preciado was an excellent choice. We were given an upgrade to a junior suite, Rm 207, which was lovely. Very quiet rooms complete with electric shutters in all windows. A large and well equipped bathroom, complete with blowdryer. Daniel, the front desk manager, was extraordinarily helpful in locating good restaurants and getting tickets to the bullfight. The hotel is very near the puerto Del Sol shopping area and Plaza Callao, which allows you to go anywhere on the very easy to understand Metro. The only problem we had was getting to the hotel from the train station. The Preciados is on Calle Preciados, which has a pedestrian only section and a cars allowed section, but the taxi drivers all refused to take us because they thought it was all pedestrian only, and kept telling us to take the metro, which we did with all our luggage, and then trekked like sherpas to finally locat the hotel ON THE AUTO ALLOWED AREA!! If you are taking a taxi from the train station or the airport, make sure to tell the driver to take you to the Preciados at the plaza Callao. Even if they won't take you any further you are only a block from the hotel there, but once there they should all see that they can drive you right to the door. Also, their cafe is a decent place for a bite in the morning but we only had coffee and croissants, not the buffet.

We were given only a single very tiny bar of soap each day. This was barely usable for both for hand and body washing if you chose not to use the provide body wash lotion.

Perfect location if you want to explore Madrid, within walking distance from Prado and Royal Palace. Breakfast a bit expensive, EUR15, so try the cafeteria on the corner, EUR2 for coffee and a croissant. The only negative aspect- the size of my room. Smaller than a prison cell, even the bathroom looked bigger.

Good Hotel, good service and competent/friendly staff. I used the Restaurant twice (breakfast and dinner) and both times the food was mediocre and overpriced. Luckily there are plenty of good restaurants in the neighborhood. The single rooms (only one per floor)are relatively spacious but look towards the interior of the hotel with no sunlight. Watch out for terrible smoking odors even in non-smoking rooms! Free wifi with strong signals in rooms. Overall a good experience and value

Location fantastic. Easy by train. Reception was very welcoming. Lots to see, do, eat around the hotel. Free Wifi was great. I was choosing between this hotel and another that was cheaper, but this place had the great reviews and I can see why. You will not be disapointed with the Preciados.

The rooms were a very good size and the bathroom great. The hotel is located on a fairly busy street, but double glass french doors and automatic metal shutters completely cut the noise. The location was a bit hard to find, as the street radiates out from a square and there are 2 different places to pick it up from the central square. At the information booth, conveniently located there, they gave us a hand point to go down one portion of the road, but in fact, it was on the other side on the other side of the square. Breakfast was available for a fee, and nicely presented.

Excellent location on quiet side street in center. In my opinion, price extremely reasonable! Easy internet access, which was important to me.

The good news is that the bathroom of the single rooms is almost as big as the bedroom. The bad news is that the bedroom of the singles is not much bigger than the bathroom. The singles appears also to be all close to the elevators, which means there is some noise. Singles also seem to face all inside, i.e. no natural light in the room. Not recommended for a longer stay. Otherwise nice new interior.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at The Hotel Preciados in March 2009. The location is great, near the metro and pedestrian zone. Our room faced the street, but we heard no street noise. There is a good buffet restaurant across the street.

I had a spacious room facing Calle Preciados. Two windows brought good light. The Museo Prado is about fifteen minutes away, as is, in another direction, the Palacio Real. Both Callao and Santo Domingo Metro stations are perhaps two minutes from the hotel. In sum, the location is perfect for seeing sights in the city center and beyond, whether by foot or by public transportation. Excellent eateries are nearby, including the Gallegan restaurant that adjoins the hotel. Food at the latter is delicious and moderately priced. The hotel is very well staffed with polite, helpful, friendly personnel. My requests for information were always answered. Service was in every way excellent.

Preciados is one of 6 hotels we stay at in Madrid and it was our fourth stay there. It is in a central area just by Santo Domingo tube station. It is convenient for the Opera, El Corte Ingles, FNAC,the Gran Via and numerous restaurants. Calle Preciados is one way and there was no left turn from Gran Via westbound on a busy Saturday night so our taxi had a small diversion. The hotel is modern with well appointed rooms and free wifi. The 1st floor is smoking and some smoke had drifted up to our 2nd floor non-smoking room so we changed it for a 3rd floor room. Other than that it was a totally satisfactory stay and we would strongly recommend Preciados.

I stayed in Madrid with my girlfriend for 3 nights and it was perfect.Perfect location, center of Madrid.Hotel room was perfect, very clean, with free Minibar access and free WIFI access.Only negative point was the size of the bed who was only 1.60 m large.(standard room) But except for that i would recoomend it to everyone. When i go back to Madrid, this will be my first choice.

i have stayed in a few city centre hotels in Madrid, Preciados is extremely quiet with absolutely no street noise to be heard. Staff are competent - check in took about 20 seconds (compared to the Mayorazgo where it took about 15 minutes) Great city centre hotel in a great city.

I was only able to stay one night at the hotel. I was impressed with the helpfulness and friendly staff on the front desk. I had a quiet comfortable internal aspect room with a very comfortable bed.The hotel location was excellent for visiting museums, within walking distance of good shopping areas and excellent places to eat out.Lovely modern decor in public spaces and bedrooms.Helpful free mini bar.

It is too expensive for such a narrow room. The cost should be cheeper compared with other 4 star hotel. Our room had very bad view and we could not feel any relaxation.

Hotel Preciados was a excellent choice. Quiet room, clean and good value (prices seem high in Madrid). We skipped breakfast and had great cafe breakfasts in the neighborhood for about 3 Euros each (coffee, roll). There is a Valor Cafe (specializing in Chocolate) on a pedestrian street that joins Preciados just down the street that is particularly recommended. Also note that Preciados Street makes a 90-degree turn as you walk up from Plaza del Sol, this confused me for a while, but eventually found the hotel.

Amazing! What a great find! My 2 adult daughters and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in Sept 2008. The location was PERFECT. We were within a few minutes of the Prado, Royal Palace and Cathedral, and a major shopping area (Plaza del Sol). The staff was warm, friendly, and very helpful. We speak a little Spanish and having the staff speak English gave us just the boost we needed. Excellent - I would highly recommend this hotel.

The rooms are very modern with all types of lighting, two balconies, bed sound system, flat panel TV, marble heated bathroom. Outdoor noise is non-existent in the room. Restaurant is highly recommended and surprisingly excellent. I had breakfast every morning and a handful of dinners over a three week stay. Front desk was quick to fix room issues like a burn out bulb in the bedroom, requesting taxis, and cleaning service. Hotel does not provide iron but have ironing service.

We went on a 8 day vacation trip in spain starting from madrid - to cordoba/sevilla - to granada and finished in barcelona. Precidados was in a great location - very close to the metro station and all the major sights in Madrid. Some nice tapas bars closeby too. In our whole trip we thought it was the best quality for the price - a great deal We were travelling with my 7 year old daughter and they gave the extra bed free, also there was a couple of computers where we could access internet freely(both of which which is not what we got in the rest of spain) I would totally recommend it..

My husband and I absolutely loved this hotel. It was in the centre of a busy area, close to Gran Via and Preciados shopping street. We could walk to all the main tourist destinations, and it was very close to three Metro stations. Although it was busy around the hotel, the room was very quiet. Our room was absolutely delightful. It was comfortable, spotless, modern and the free mini-bar was a lovely touch. The breakfast was slightly expensive, but it was good and the service was excellent. There were two computers with free internet access to guests, which I liked. We would recommend this hotel to everyone!

Nice clean quiet hotel. Seems to have been recently renovated. Very central. Max 30 minutes walk from everything of significance in old Madrid. Condensation/bubbling from A.C. a bit loud but not terribly so. Room smallish but bathroom very decent size. Room very clean. Great sound insulation from outside - at least on 4th floor. Corridors etc. very clean. Reception very helpful. Would I stay here again? Absolutely yes. Very good Spanish restaurant facing hotel entrance and good Italian restaurant beside hotel.

While the room was very clean and modern - plus the bathroom was HUGE - there was no window. Also, on the first night after 32 hours of travel we were woken up by some wild commotion on the main staircase at 3:30am - sounded like a Spanish stag party or something. Area around hotel not the nicest (pizza parlours and kebab shops, paved city square with odd types hanging around) it was a short walk to nicer areas. Good location if you want to shop high street stores and quite convenient for sightseeing. SOME streets close by are rather seedy - but close to Gran Via that has to be expected - they were easily avoided without significant detour!

This hotel was within walking distance of everything. The staff was fantastic! On a day when my friend was expected at 10AM & I had left her a message, the staff was very concerned when I checked with them about 12 and she had not arrived. As soon as she arrived they told her how relieved they were and gave her the message immediately. Much of the staff spoke excellent English! Downside: breakfast not included and the buffet breakfast at the restaurant was overpriced. I would definitely stay there again if I return to Madrid.

We had a junior suite which was outstanding. Lots of space, 2 flat screen TV's large bathroom and balconies for every window. The service was wonderful with extra touches such as a free mini bar (limited selection but nice). The location is wonderful a very short walk to the major shopping area and to the Opera House, Royal Palace and the old quarter. We did not eat at the resturant but it looked lovely and always busy. The one small problem is our taxi driver did not know where it was and we had to ask and walk a bit upon arrival. Nice eating places close by but do stay away from the Italian resturant nearby- Tuscanny- terrible food.

Excellent location and hotel - staff was very friendly and helpful, very clean, fairly new - overall great. The only thing it did not include was breakfast (which it should) and you had to pay 15 Euros at the restaurant adjacent to the property (and we did because of convenience) which was pricey for breakfast. Everything else was great and the price was very good for such an excellent and central location. Will definitely stay here again when we return to Madrid.

I stayed for 3 nights in the Preciados hotel with a friend of mine and we both found it to be the most comfortable accommodation to have stayed in to date. Everything about hotel was perfect. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The soundproofing walls and windows helped for a peacefull sleep from the busy street below. The location of the hotel couldn't have been better and was central to all of the cities sights and shopping and a metro station was about 100 yards away. We were very impressed by Preciados! Location is just perfect, close to metro/shops/bars/restuarants/deli/supermarkets, in short, you can find what you need in the area. All staff are well-trained and efficient. They did their best to make us feel at home. Room is in good size and clean (we stayed in a standard double). Although the hotel is in the very busy area, you wont be awoke at night since they installed double-glass window. Present for my Mum for her birthday. This is a 4* hotel with a 5* location & staff. Booked a double but they upgraded us to a twin with view, and only charged us for the double price room. Excellent.Loads of wardrobe space. Bathroom was spacious and constantly kept clean with new towels everyday. Location is brilliant - 2 mins from Gran Via, 4 mins from Puerta Del Sol (centre of Madrid) 6 mins from Plaza Mayor, 15 mins from Museum Prado, Jardin Botanico area.10 mins from Royal Palace. (walking) Use Madrid Vision (bus) you will get around and see most. Great value for money. Gran Via (shopping). You can book excurtions from hotel and they are great with advice and directions. A great hotel! Exactly where you want to be in Madrid if you are staying for the weekend. The staff were incredibly friendly and very helpful. While we didn't have any meals in the hotel, we did come back to the hotel late after a night out and requested some coffee for the room from reception. My wife and I visited Madrid for a 'long weekend'. The hotel, situated in the 'old quarter', is a good base to view Madrid. The staff were attentive, very polite and made up for our laziness with a good command of English. The room we had which was on the ground floor was very spacious including a large 'dinning/sitting' area seperate to the bedroom and the bathroom was also spacious and well appointed. The hotel restaurant, although we did not frequent on this occasion, appeared of a good standard and busy with customers (local). There are plenty of 'tapas' bars, shops within the immediate vicinity and an excellant fish restaurant nearby, albeit not cheap but afforded excellant choice and service on the night. Overall, it was a very pleasant and enjoyable visit that was enhanced with good weather, good food and wine.

The hotel is great, and in a very good location for tourists. The main drawback applies only if you are driving. It is VERY VERY difficult to drive to the property because of the one way streets and heavy traffic. Parking is provided at an extra cost. Breakfast is good but also unless you are a marathon eater, not worth the price because there is no way you can eat enough to get your money's worth.

This was our third trip to Madrid in 6 months. We noticed the Preciados on our previous visit as being in an ideal location, very central yet on a quiet street in term of traffic. We were therefore delighted when to our amazement it had availability (just proves it's always worth checking on a regular basis as there must have been a cancellation). The room surpassed our expectation, stylish contemporary, bright and airy with a secluded balcony. The rooms are properly insulated and you can't hear your neighbours or the outside world. There are also effective black out curtains. The bathroom had a rooflight providing natural light, great shower and double sink. The only problem is the door stop in the bathroom which is a real trip hazzard and toe stubber when the door is shut (bonus having so many towels to be able to use one as a marker to aviod it). The staff were very friendly and efficient with perfect english. It's worth the price and really does feel like a 4* hotel, we strongly recommend this hotel.

This was an excellent hotel, a little pricey but you pay for what you get. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms were very nice. Also the hotel staff were friendly.

Excellent location, great staff, we were unaware of the breakfast ... likely our fault. We had a corner suite, so it was quite spacious. We would definitely stay here again if in Madrid

Café Varela restaurant enjoys the same location as the romantic Café Varela (1896-1959), former meeting point of great writers such as Miguel de Unamuno, the Machado brothers and Emilio Carrere, who conceived their ideas over a warm cup of coffee.
Nowadays, in the Café Varela restaurant you will be able to taste a varied choice of dishes with first quality products, accompanied by an outstanding selection of wines. The restaurant boasts a pleasant and warm atmosphere obtained thanks to a perfect blend of classic and modern decoration. Its cared decoration, an impeccable service and a cared traditional offer of dishes with a Galician touch.
Not to forget the extensive wine list, in which you will find the best value for money.
