Great place to stay if you want to be the city central. Not too far away from the Plaza Mayor. But very near the palace. Good environment since the shops are nearby and you can feel the vibrancy of Madrid.

The rooms were tired looking and in need of some urgent renovation. Renovation work was going on in the reception area, which caused a slight inconvenience. No prior warning was given of this! Trouble with key cards. On our second night, it simply stopped working and we had to ask reception to renew it. Good location - near royal palace and opera (as the name suggests ;). Families: beware of wandering out of the hotel at night, prostitutes line the streets nearby in the evening.

The hotel location is great. However, we made our reservations months in advance and were given the worst rooms in the hotel. Our ceiling was peeling and had missing trim. The linens were old and thin. The remote and phone were filty. The housecleaners did the best they could, but these rooms should not have been offered. I believe that venere.com clients are given the worst rooms in this hotel. They were rennovating and perhaps this won't be the case in the future. Some of the younger staff were helpful and sweet, but it seemed those in charge were rude and terse. Everyone seemed stressed and tense. We would never recommend this hotel or stay here again ourselves. We use Venere.com often and usually have great experiences. This one was bad.

Nice hotel, good location..very clean...the front desk manager is great and very helpful..some of the other staff ,though nice, had problems communicating in english and most of the time could not get any helpful information from them. Frustrating at times since we were not familiar with the area. But the overall stay was very nice. The hotel was within a decent walking distance to many of Madrids main attractions and right across the street from the Royal Palace and the Royal Opera.

The hotel is in an excellent location for visiting Madrid--close to shopping and some of the high tourist areas, but also a few blocks out of the way of some of the highest traffic. It is near several performance venues, a Metro stop and the palace. The rooms are not very quiet, however. Also, the air conditioning seems to work less well on the upper floors. There was a problem with the elevators the day we were leaving--one was not working and was stuck on our floor. The other elevator could not be called to an upper floor.

Go to the high tech petit palace, a much nicer version for the same price, BIG DIFFERENCE i could hear the people in the bathroom on top and below, not a pleasant experience, petit palace has a ton of locations, the rooms aren't any bigger, just much nicer

The Hotel looks quite dated from the outside, but our room was superb, very spacious and a beautifully clean bathroom, with shower, bath and double sinks! very comfy beds, as usual a bit noisy in the morning with doors banging, but all hotels seem to be like this. It is in a perfect location to go out on foot and see the sights, very close to the Palace, and of course the Opera House. The staff were great, good fun and very helpful. I had thought the breakfast was included in the price, but was quickly presented with the bill whilst eating my cereal!! not to worry, this didn't put me off considering coming back to stay again. Excellent price for a lovely weekend. And very easy to book using this website. We had the triple room which from the floor plan did appear to be the biggest on the 4th floor. Also loads of hanging space for clothes.

Hotel was in a good spot (near the tour locations), but had a cafeteria with poor service during the day (night was fine). The staff at the desk varied in competency. The housekeeping staff was quite helpful.

If you are a single traveller, it is best to ask and pay for a twin or double bedroom. The location is prefect - walking distance to the big shops and the Theatre.

The hotel was all that I expected and its location was even more convenient than I had anticipated. I'm sorry that we didnot have dinner in the hotel. My friend was less keen than I to try the 'singing dinner' I would certainly sample it next time.

Reasonable value for money and relatively quiet though still situated conveniently for shops and sights .Excellent breakfast if you feel up to making the most of it . Staff vey agreeable.Ask for an upper floor room without a connecting door to minimise noise factor .
