Stayed for 4 nights there. Very basic hotel. Small room. Bathroom looks like it was renovated long time ago. Not very comfortable beds; one bed was squeaky. Stuff spoke English and was friendly and responsive. Good location - 15 min pleasant walk to Prado and other museums; 15 min walk to Plaza Mayor, Palace, etc.; 20 min to train station. One step away from other Madrid attractions.

Excellent only for the central position (we had to pay something to the noise, but was not the problem, madrid is the city of movida! :) and the cleaniness. But: two on six (i've seen) people at reception were not kind, Wi-Fi does not good working and the pc was often used bye childrens playing on web games. The biggest problem were the bed sheets, clean but what a noise! Maybe they were made with synthetic tissue, but sleeping between them has been as sleeping on a bed of cracking fried potatoes. Absolutely unconfortable. The hotel was clean, the entrance, reception, common areas is modern, hitech style, but the rooms looks old and quickly refurbished. The (still old) doors has been badly painted and the bathroom was quite unconfortable: the WC is really under the sink and it's easier to have a shower (in the bathtub) , not to wash your face in it (sink). So, finally, the hotel is good for the position and the cleaniless, but the price, for me is 20 percent higher than it should be. I've been travelling from I was 13 years old. Now I'm 45. Anyway Madrid is fantastic and I've enjoyed all the days I've been there.

Very nice hotel - the room was small, but clean and in great working order. My only complaint would be the block it's on - kind of slummy. However, it was very close to the metro and walking distance from Plaza Mayor and Plaza Puerto del Sol. The price was amazing considering how nice this hotel is.

Location was convenient to train station (about 1/2 mile), the Metro, Prado, Puerto del Sol, cinema and restaurants. Rooms were adequate, though I must admit I was grossed out by hair on the bathroom floor. Friendly staff, huge internet lounge.

The location is nice and the facilities are OK. But the quality of staff is poor. Noone greets us or say Hola while we passed the counter, not to mention smiling. The waitress at breakfast is really not doing her job. (I think she is African American considering her skin color.) We had wonderful experiences staying in hotels in southern cities like Cordoba, Granada, Sevilla, and many others, but were disappointed with the services here.

A decent hotel located right in the heart of town - walking distance to many desirable places. Breakfast buffett is good average. Nothing really missing, but no thrills either. Plain standard. Free internet corner with three notebooks is a big plus. Rooms are up to date and clean. Beds are comfortable. A good place to stay while in Madrid for those who do not need much more than a fairly comfy place to sleep and a shower.

ottimo hotel situato in posizione strategica, peccato per la camera un po' piccola e per i lavori di ristrutturazione che si stavano eseguendo in quel periodo che ne hanno limitato le potenzialità. cmq pulito e con un buon prezzo vista la posizione.

If you want to stay in a hotel that smeels like an empty ash tray this is the one for you. The hotel was OK, the room reasonable size and bathroom was very functional. But the smell of cigarette smoke during the night was overpowering. i would NEVER stay in this hotel again. (and yes we were in a non smoking room)

Except the location the conditions and the quality of the hotel rooms do not justify the price noise, bad drainage in the bathroom, no daylight at all because the window that goes to a small internal yard). Paying 106 Euro (average) per night for a room like we have received is not exactly what we have expected from the hotel.

We`ve met the best possible staff in Spain. We`ve been in five hotels incl. Barcelona, Sevilla, Grenada and Marbella, but the staff behind the reception desk was very far from the staff in the Cortezo hotel and I think this is the hotel best advantage! The position of the hotel is also good, however beds need some attention. I think hotel is very good on a reasonable price and the staff is excellent!

The safe was euro-operated, not a 3-euro/day flat fee as noted in the confirmation email. It was a euro to open the safe and re-lock it, so you are penalized if you forget something, but save money if can put in everything at once for your entire stay. Hotel staff was good, room was okay by European size standards, AC worked fine, beds were hard and resting on a spring foundation -- not unusual -- and the window opened onto the inner courtyard dominated by metal stairwells. Easy walk to Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, El Prado. No noise from the theater for us, as others have complained about.

A very good hotel in the middle of Madrid. The street itself is a bit average, but it is walking distance to anywhere in central Madrid. The palace was only about 20 minutes walk away, and you have all the main piazza's within close walking distance (10 minutes tops). We were upgraded to a larger room, and it was very impressive indeed. Clean, quiet, and well cleaned. The room has a coin-operated safe. We will stay there again.

Very central-only a short walk to Plaza Mayor. Difficult to get to due to one way system, but map location was accurate. Other end of the street looks a bit seedy at times. 100m to Metro. Parking is limited and expensive, but undercover. Staff were efficient but a bit gruff at times. They take groups, so it can get bit noisy if these people don't show reasonable consideration for others. Our room was very large, well equipped and clean. Breakfast not included, but cheap options 30m away. Good value overall in this location.

Good hotel - only issue was that the information from Venere didn't explain that there is a theatre next door to the hotel and we could hear the production (musical) from our hotel room. However it didn't really spoil our overall stay. The hotel was in an excellent location for a city break.

This is possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was cramped and very very stuffy. The air conditioning was very old and there were black marks on the walls from the dirt that comes through the air con. The area around the hotel is not great and walking to the underground takes you through a bad part of town. Other than that the hotel is within good walking distance from Plaza Mayor and the bars near there are very good. At night time I would walk out for the working girls on the streets as they have a habbit of pick pocketing.

Beautiful room right in the touristic center of Madrid! Had the feel of an upscale hotel at a fraction of the cost. I was very impressed by the bathroom (separate shower and bath; large, bright, and clean) and loved how the living space was divided into a bedroom and sitting room. My only complaint: the street outside our window was very loud on weekend evenings.

The walls betwen the rooms are very thin so I could hear the other people in adjacent rooms very clearly. However this was only a problem on one evening, and I had on the whole, an enjoyable stay. Make sure breakfast is included in the price. Also there is currently building do on (Novemebr 2005) so there is a lot of noise in the hotel during the day, but this is not a problem at night. Breakfast is OK. The hotel is very central and well located.
