No central heating, guests provided with only portable heater in freezing madrid. Bring your own shower cream and shampoo. Pedestrian mall can be noisy during the day and rowdy at night. Bring ear plugs. On the whole, very good quality hotel.

The hotel offers you much more than you can expect for the price you pay. Everything is just perfect. Should I ever go to visit Madrid again, there would be no doubt in my mind at all, that I would stay at this fantastic hotel. This goes for me and the eight people I was together with at our 5 days stay at Francisco 1.

The rooms were nice, however the glass door between the room and the bathroom is not very practical. Why would anyone want to be observed while doing their private business. Central AC was not working well, however the hotel provided mobile units. Reception staff did not speak English but were helpful anyway.

I would really love this hotel if it is not in the hot summer days. The hotel is well maintained and the service is good. But, being a renovated old building, each room has a mobile air conditioner, which, if turned on, requires the window to be open, and you will be bombarded with the noise from the crowd on the street. So, either the heat or the noise will make it hard to go to sleep. So, avoid it in the really hot weather. In all other times, I think it would be a very nice hotel with good value, good service, learn, and right in the heart of everything.

The hotel has a great location near shops, bars and metro. Staff were very helpful and friendly especially when we they provided us with an air conditioning unit. The room was clean and the breakfast was good. Just a bit noisy at night but apart from that a superb place to stay in Madrid!!

Very nice hotel and close to metro (Opéra). Lots of artist on the road, but good windows keep the noise outside! Need to walk stairs - not wheelchair proof! Very quiet in rooms! Good breakfast to start the day.

I stayed in Madrid for two nights, seeing my nephew and exploring the city. The hotel is perfectly located, very central, with the Metro five minutes walk away. The room was in the refurbed part, very pleasant, clean, good bathroom and a good size although I was travelling by myself. It might be a little tight for two, but the beds were good and a great size. I found the key/electricity turning on system very annoying however. Breakfast adequate, a little dull but good choice of milk strangely! V nice helpful staff. BUT oh the noise in my room at night! Not the passers by, but the bin emptiers, the skip removals, the lorries and bikes... If you close the blinds it makes a bit of a difference; or request a room at the back; or take v good earplugs. I will do all that next time...

I enjoyed the hotel. It was a little noisy because of renovations. The reason that I rated staff competence low was that one of the desk clerks and a bell men all but strong armed me to take a taxi to the airport the next morning. They told me the Metro would not run until at least 6:30 am, that my bag would probably be stolen, and at best it would take me an hour and a half to reach the airport. When I asked the cost of a taxi they said 35 Euro. Well, the Metro did leave at 6 am, no one, of course, touched my luggage, the travel time was 45 minutes and the cost 2 Euro so I saved 33 Euro. Are these guys getting kick backs from taxi drivers? Besides that, I would certainly stay at the Francisco I again.

Excellent location, good price. But we were given a room from the old part of the building. The room was small, poorly furnished and extremely noisy. The sound from nearby streets and neighboring rooms was too loud to have a comfort sleep.

Very nice hotel situated in a very centre of Madrid near Plaza del Sol and Opera on a walking street. It was a little bit loud on the street but good windows solved this problem. Room and bathroom were clean and pretty spacious, furniture was modern. Big plasma TV in our room wasn't working but it wasn't a problem for me. Our staying there included continental breakfast.

Relationship between price/quality is excellent, the hotel is very close to Sol and Opera tube stations and is a good start to visit all over the center of Madrid by foot. Rooms are very clean and breakfast is ok. I recommend this hotel to everybody!

A lot of stairs, but staff will carry your luggage for you with smile, there are elevators but not everywhere. (not from the hall to the first floor for example) No wifi, no internet, horrible view throughout my window, but at the same time the rate price/quality is excellent, breakfast is included, the location is perfect, people very kind.
