It was fine, the room was OK, a little small i should say... but in general the hotel is nice, smells like tea. There's no lift to the 6th floor. I had to stop on the 5th and walk upstairs. The street is awful but it's really close to the centre.

The room we received was incredibly noisy. It was right by the lift and had a lot of people walking past at all hours of the night. On our second night we had several different groups arrive at 3 and 4am. These were large groups of people being noisy on their arrival and this kept us awake. The staff were very unhelpful. I will never stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is in a very strategic position: attached to the most important shopping street (Gran Via), well connected to the most important city attractions which are reachable also on feet. The hotel is very nice, rooms well equipped and the breakfast very good.

The location is very good. right at the center but in a quiet street. the rooms needs renovation and modernization. it is good hotel but value for money was not so good. you would expect a better value for 4 star hotel.

The hotel is well located near a metro station, but the street is not a very inviting one. Breakfast is not included, although you can choose from many options (different cheese and hams, breads, cereals etc) it is expensive compared to other hotels.

The surroundings may not look promosing at first glance, but the El Coloso is in a handy area in the north end of the Gran Via. As such, it is an excellent base for walking around the city. It is somewhat pricy, but we were there on a holiday weekend. Again, I have a problem with this increasing trend of paying substantially extra for breakfasts. However, this being Spain, there are plenty of cafes locally to avoid this extra expense. Madrid seems primarily a good city for nightlife, and this is an easy place to get back to after a night out. Rooms here were excellent, spacious and clean. Our check in was a little strained, but other staff on the desk seemed very enthusiastic! The hotel is close to two metro stations. I can recommend this hotel to fellow travellers with the above caveats.

The hotel receptionist Mario was extremely helpful. He spoke perfect english and recommended some excellent tapas and seafood restaurants nearby. He was able to give good advice on the metro system + local spots. A very pleasant gentleman and an asset to the hotel!

Good hotel and accomodation but when we arrived they relocated us in a different building 200 meters far and even if the cost of the room was lower for the first day, at the end the total amount was the same. too smart.

The hotel has a strategic location, this is the main point. There is a lot of work to do with the rooms, definetively not worth a 4* classification...

We stayed here twice. The first stay was great - the room was on the top floor and very large and clean. I highly rec that you ask for a room on the top floor as they have a living area and a bedroom. The second stay was not as good. The room was small and not very nice. They hotel has internet and a decent breakfast. The staff was helpful, but not for any serious planning issues. The location was ok - if you dont mind walking or taking trains. I prefer hotels in nicer locations, but worth the money if you get the bigger rooms.

Within walking distance from Plaza Mayor, Calle Arsenal, Plaza del Sol, Prado, Gran Via and most notable "centro" sites/venues for tourists. We were quite satisfied. The Reception staff changed several times during the day so consistency in how we were treated differed a bit but overall, everyone was professional and courteous. Staff assisted us in securing taxi's for airports, maps for walking/siteseeing, restaurant recommendations, etc. No problems really. Overall very nice.

I am not sure why this hotel should be rated as four star - very little in the way of facilities. No tea or coffee making facilities in room. Our room was large and clean, but at the back of the hotel so no view. The corridors seemed in need of refurbishment. The street in which the hotel is located is grotty but it is close to 3 different metro stations and within easy walking distance of the old part of the city - Palacio Real, Puerta de Sol, Plaza Mayor

The room (I pay for a superior) was so small that if the window was open there was imposible to go trough the room. With the window closed there was only a 30 cm (1 foot) between the end of the bed and the wall. Also the double bed was so small for two.

The hotel was beautiful and the location fantastic. The staff were very nice. The room was large, full of marble and dark wood, the style was lovely. The problems was that the street was a bit noisy and the airconditioning in the room did not work very well. However, the staff were most helpful in resolving the problem.

Stayed here for 3 nights over New Year. Hotel was fine but the surrounding area not quite as central as we were expecting. Having said that we were 2 minutes walk from Gran Via and 5-10 minutes from the main square

The hotel is in a one way street parallel to the Gran Via. Parking costs €15 per night. The room was very quiet; but the shower had a problem and spilled water all over the bathroom floor. Also, there was no WiFi or other direct internet access in the room, only a shared station in the lobby. Overall, a good value for money, centrally located, within walking distance of most monuments and shopping areas.

Lobby was beeing refurbished,so there were cables and workers all over the place. Lots of steps in entrance for somebody with walking difficulties not so good. Plus point, there is a garage.

Its definitely worth paying the extra for a junior suite, though the TV system had a mind of its own. Hotel very secure being next to a police station, though garage parking for El Cortes Ingles in Plaza Santa Maria creates a traffic jam in C Loganitos, meaning its quicker to arrive by Metro and a short walk!

We booked a suite, however the room we were first given consisted of two tiny rooms - depressing in comparison to a standard room. We changed to a standard room and discovered later that the top floor had the suites. It was also a bit disappointing to discover that we were in an old part of the hotel and that the main part had been recently refurbished. It looked like there was a big difference between the old and refurbished parts.

We checked-in and were taken to our room. They had given us a double room and we actually booked a junior suite as it was the last night of our honeymoon. There was also a foul smell in the room coming from the bathroom. I went back to reception to query the room and they tried to sell us the room we were put in for 102euros + tax. (I must mention that the receptionist's English was excellent so none of this is due to a language barrier.) This would have made the room the same price (if not more) as the suite. I asked to change rooms and was shown the suite (we had to run to keep up with the man showing it to us) - which I then asked to move to for the price which I booked it at (114 euros). At no point did the staff apologise to us and actually made us feel that we were just two troublesome guests and we felt very uncomfortable. When I went to check-out on the Saturday morning the same receptionist visibly took a deep sigh when she saw us. I travel quite a lot with my job and regulary stay in hotels - this is not the standard of service and coutesy that I expect in a four star hotel. It was a sad way to end what had been a very enjoyable honeymoon.
