The hotel was fine, in a central area of Madrid. The only problem was the air conditionning which was not working very well. The price seems rather high compared to hotels of the south of spain, but I suppose it compares well with other hotels in Madrid. Th employees were really very nice.

Great location for points of interest and access to metro. Surrounding streets a little 'seedy' but we never experienced a problem even returning to the hotel after midnight. Friendly staff - communication in English not a problem. It was easy to hear people in adjoining rooms moving around but this was not an inconvenience, as people during our stay were quiet and considerate. (Could have been a problem if a rowdy group had occupied one of the nearby rooms). We would stay there again.

The location of this hotel is wonderful and great staff. I would suggest booking a room that overlooks the front of the hotel if you care anything about a view. The only other thing is that when I was there (25/03/09) there was room remodeling going on. While it didn't bother my sleep at all, I would have liked to have known about this in advance.

This hotel is in a great location close to Gran Via Avenue where most of the buses circulates and close to a metro station as well (2 blocks). Despite being close to a big avenue all of the windows are noise protected and therefore this is a very quiet room and the hotel stays in a very small street (kind of dead end street), no cars, nothing. Staff is also welcome with good recommendation of restaurants and shows. I recommend it.

This hotel offered excellent value for money, and was in a great location, with metro, local buses, and the open top tourist bus stop close by. The public areas of the hotel were spacious and comfortable, with free internet access. Breakfast was adequate for 8.25 euros. The only slight problem was locating the premises. Calle del Rio is a narrow street off Calle de Leganitos (1st turn right up from Plaza D'Espana fountain). I would happily stay at this hotel again.

A good hotel in an area very convenient for sightseeing and for reataurants. It's near the Gran Via and also near the Royal Palace, Cathedral and Opera House. Our second visit to this hotel we would recommend it. The only small fault might be the lack of a barman! There is a bar in the nicely furnished reception area but no-one to serve drinks during our 4 night stay.

The lobby was beautiful. The room and bathroom were really nice. The front desk people were very kind and helpful. It was close to the metro and if you turn left out the front door you will come to a place of interest after crossing a big street. I can't remember the name of the huge building but it has sculpted gardens next to it. If you turn right out the front door there are many restaurants, bars and stores on Gran Via. I would stay there again.

My brother and I had a great stay... We went to see MADRID so we were gone all day from the hotel. When we would return though we would find the rooms just perfect. The staff was very nice and helpful. Regarding the noise-we really didn't notice anything except for our last night. There was some kind of banging or consruction (I dooon't know--didn't bother us too much!). Anyways-overall everthing was just fine for the price we paid (maybe even better-considering the location and the price of the other hotels around us!)

Aircondition was broken so it was freezing cold in the room and we both caught a cold because of this. We got unwanted visitors into the room. The persons working in the bar did not know how to open a bottle of wine (its true, they broke 3(!) bottles before managing to open a bottle of red wine).

From our experience of travelling widely we consider this hotel to be an excellent base from which to explore Madrid. In addition to our very high ratings for the different categories we recommend it for: it's proximity to the metro; to the old part of Madrid; the helpfulness of the staff, whatever time of the day or night; the quietness of the side street and especially its value for money.

Hotel Cason Del Tormes is an excellent little hotel at the top of the Gran Via .The staff are friendly and speak good English and very helpful for information and advice. Had booked a single room but got a twin room at no extra charge!!. Rooms and bathroom were spotless clean and was more than big enough for my needs . Breakfast is not included in the price but quite frankly there are dozens of good little cafes within a stones throw of the hotel that I did not take hotel`s fare. The hotel is almost right beside the Metro (Plaza de Espana) but down a side street and can be a little hard to find .It is a short walk from the hotel to the Royal Palace. The Prado and other sites are at the other end of the Gran Via and although a good walk is certainly worth it to take in the sites and sounds of Madrid`s main street. I found no noise problems with rooms that have been reported in other reviews. All in all a good stay in the Cason del Tormes. Would have no problem staying again on a return visit

I was in Madrid on May 2008 and I found the Hotel on Venere web pages. I'm very happy to have taken this choise because the hotel is really in the centre of the town but in a very quiet street, therefore the reserved room was quiet too. Our fist stay at this location. This is a very good hotel if you need to be centrally located and are arriving by metro. The rooms were spotless.

The hotel, room and service were good value for money. The front desk staff were very helpful in directing me to a gym and self service laundry. The hotel was in a good location, a block from Plaza de Espana. My main issue was the amount of noise from the adjoining room. I wasn't sure whether the people in the room were talking at normal volume or the room acoustics and the walls were not particularly good. I probably wouldn't stay in this hotel again due to this noise.

The hotel is well located, nice and the service very good. It is situated in a small street, but that is OK because it is in a safe place downtown, next to a major subway station. I had two major issues though: - At more than 100EUR/night/bedroom, the price/quality ratio was below average. This is a nice hotel but I am used to pay 60-70EUR/night/bedroom for this level of hotels in large European capitals. - The heating system was not convenient, which is a serious problem in winter. Central (hot-water) heating did not work, and the electrical heating is too noisy (and generates air too dry) to be usable at night.

Very good hotel, nice room, clean and quiet. Employees quite helpful. The surroundings streets are dirty but the location is so close to all means of public transportation that it doesn't matter. I would use it again and I recommend it to eveyone. Be careful with tourist programs (it is not a problem of the hotel). My advice is to ask all details of what it is being offered so you wont be surprised of the final results.

Ideally stuated to the Metro. Pleasant hotel with nice rooms and a decent breakfast selection. Free internet access. Quite comfortable and the area surrounding is not the best but quite acceptable after a day or two of familiarisation. Good restaurants in Gran Via as well as closeness to Car Hire delivery points.

we wanted to spend one weekend in Madrid for our first wedding anniversary, so we decided to look for a convenient location in the city center (according to our budget) to have everything at a walking distance. we choose this nice hotel after reading other travellers reviews and we can't say anything different: very very good! the staff is very friendly, the hotel is quiet, clean, comfortable and centrally located: it's just beside the Senate (even if in a narrow dark street but absolutely not scary, at the corner with some chinese shops) and Madrid is just outside the door! really 100mt far from Gran Via and Plaza Espana, Royal Palace at 10', Plaza Mayor at 15' and so on. more, only 9 metro stops from the airport, I mean 20' from Barajas to our room (we bought the 3 days tickets for 9€, I suggest you to do it). look around for your spanish breakfast and tapas, churros con chocolate are a must and don't miss "el museo del jamon"! what else? we enjoyed!

My wife and I stayed at Cason del Tormes for 3 nights at the beginning of October 2007. We were delighted with the experience. The hotel is conveniently located close to the Plaza D'Espana (which has a Metro station and offices for all major car rental agencies, and is also a stopping point for the Madrid Vision sight-seeing bus). The Grand Via leads off the Plaza d'Espana and is loaded with tapas bars, restaurants and shops. Hotel staff spoke excellent english, were relaxed and friendly, but were also very efficient. The room was clean and airy, and larger than others we stayed at in Europe. There's an internet computer and a (free) room safe. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate, and was reasonably priced. Absolutely the only fault that we can point to is that the adjoining buildings were undergoing a lot of noisy reconstruction which one morning began well before dawn. But that was a relatively minor inconvenience, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Great Hotel, in a fantastic location! The employees are always at disposal to help in any need. Unfortunately the rooms are not so quiet so it's easy to heard some noise in other rooms (tv, snoring, coughing etc) but they are very clean and there's a lot of space. Last thing, for a 113 Euro/night you can't find anything better in Madrid downtown!!!

This was my first trip to Spain and I appreciated finding a good place to stay in a central location. Would highly recommend to others.

A splendid small hotel which although just off Plaza de Espana - and surrounded by some building restoration projects - was tranquil and 'off the beaten track'. Rooms were simple, spacious and very clean, the provision of a bidet in the bathroom was very welcome, and a range of curtains and blackout blinds enabled you to choose an appropriate level of light. Quite sumptuously appointed and immaculate public areas, plenty of choice at breakfast and above all absolutely charming, helpful staff- totally indulgent of my stumbling attempts at Spanish - made this outstanding value for money - to the extent of wanting to keep the place our secret discovery! So well done Venere for discovering it first! However, please look at the directions again: it really couldn't be simpler from the Metro Plaza de Espana yet the map was unhelpful because no orientation markers were given! Perhaps too quiet for 'clubbers' but otherwise very well located and convenient, with plenty of cafes and the Metro virtually on the doorstep.

Overall, the hotel is unremarkable. The hotel is extremely difficult to find even with a map. The rooms were small, clean and, considering the price and location, are a good value for the money. On the negative side, the parking is not included with the stay, several blocks away from the hotel, difficult to navigate a normal sized though the underground lot and, most importantly, very expensive. The breakfast is not included with the room and consists of rolls and cold cereal for 8 euro.

Centrally situated, but in a quiet street. Good service and amicable staff. Internet access in the lobby. The room was nice and good size. I would definitely come back.

This is a clean and quiet hotel just far enough off Gran Via to be away from the noise and bustle of the city, but close enough to everything to be quite convenient. Just two blocks to the Metro and within walking distance of many attractions. It's a long walk to the Prado, but doable. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the hotel is very clean and the rooms are spacious by European standards. This appears to be a somewhat business-oriented hotel, with no views, restaurant or busy lobby, but for a place to use as a base for time in Madrid, it fits the bill nicely.
