For our first trip to Lyons the hotel was easy walking distance ( 6 min) from Lyon Perrache station. Typical of a city centre hotel it was 'compact' but very adequate. The rooms were air conditioned so you could close the windows and keep the city noise out. The hotel, the rooms, the linen, were all very clean. You can find cheaper, but further out of the city.Reception was open till late and were helpful when we were delayed by a train strike. The breakfast was basic french but adequate and quick (you could go out if you wished!) A hand held shower over the bath was not the most convenient. Would stay there again.

Convenient to Perrache metro and train station in the Presqu'ile, about a 10-minute walk from the main square with tourist info, restaurants, etc. Drumming school in basement creates background noise during the day (somewhat insulated, but definitely audible). Rooms are small but clean, good for a short stay on a budget.

Stair carpet to 3rd floor very dirty and a very musty smell welcomed us. Family room was very small and cramped. Bedspreads looked very grubby but sheets were crisp and clean and beds comfortable. Bedroom carpet looked very dirty. Decor dingy. Breakfast and garage extra and expensive, especially the breakfast - UHT milk used in the coffee and hot chocolate, not what I expected in a french hotel or for the price. Hotel staff friendly enough.

The hotel was very nice. Kept very clean and airconditioning in every room. The location was just fine. Very close to the metro station and within walking distance to both resauraunt and shopping areas. The park near by was very nice during the day, but there were some homeless people at night. I might add though that I walked through multiple time at night and was never approached or had any sort of problem. I would certainly stay again and would highly reccomend to any one.

The Hotel Des Savoies lies almost in the middle of Lyon, very centralized, next to one of the Metro-stations in town. The Hotel had very nice staff, and the service was enormous. Room was excellent, esp. for the discount price - spacious and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful - about half spoke English and still managed to communicate OK with the other half. Breakfast fairly basic, but seems to be quite normal, and was served efficiently. Only hand-held shower head, but otherwise well-fitted bathroom. Overall, definitely recommended.

It is definitely not worth the money. We have stayed at small budget hotels for less and had even better and cleaner rooms and better bathrooms. It has not been renewed for a long time I believe. The blankets were awful. The parking of the hotel is actually an old car maintenance hall and the cars are parked in it like sardines. It is very small and could hardly take more then 10 cars. They also request your car keys to be left at the reception so they can drive out all the cars that are in the way if someone wants to drive out. That is not very safe and they do not take any responsibility if the car is scratched or something else happens with it. We did not leave the keys anyway and they said they might call us any time when someone wants to get out.

Stayed for 4 nights on business, quite pleased to see wifi access was free as the ten (or so) tv channels were close to uninteresting. Lots of restaurants and cafés locally. There is a parking for you bikers out there (like me ;o). Nice to have: a more substantial breakfast and a new carpet on the first floor. I'll recommend this to the single traveller, unless they have larger rooms for families.

Although the lady at the desk was very friendly, her enthusiasm to rent me a parking place in the very cramped garage lead to me having a brush with a pillar! The beds were squishy so that 2 people would roll together in the night. Bed was a little small. But, we could hardly be happier for what we paid. 1 block from Parache train station and next to a Christmas market (December), which turned out to be the easiest and cheapest place to eat in the city. Walking distance from Old town. Also, the station is the hub for trams that take you anywhere you want to go, cheap, easy and fast. Stay here.

I have now stayed a this hotel 2 times and I would stay there again. Rooms are clean and there en-suite bathroom is fine, also small TV, desk, telephone. Unfortunately our room was right next to the lift / elevator, but not at a cheaper price, so that was disappointing - be sure to ask for a discount or a room change if you get those particular rooms as soon as you arrive. Public areas are really non-existent - the breakfast room is tiny, much smaller than appears on the photo, and it is a pity that the room is not really used at other times for coffee, drinks, TV. They could make better use of it, and extend it. For instance it is a big shame that you can't sit there and have a relaxing drink before bedtime for example. However, there are enough cafes and bars in the nearby area within a few minutes. There is secure car parking, really convenient in a large garage behind the hotel, extra cost of €8. Best to book in advance - just send them an e-mail. Safety - There are smoke detectors in all hallways, and as well as the main staircase there is a dedicated escape staircase at the other side, so we felt safe. The area is near to Parrache Gare, so some parts are neglected and you need to be aware of your security around the station. The hotels immediate area is OK though, 2 minutes walk for the Gare. The Gare does have security staff and police visible, but like any city railway station there are professional girls, druggies, drunks, although it all seemed non-violent. Nearby there is the excellent Brasserie Georges, authentic Lyonnaise eating and drinking in a huge hall from 1836, with excellent service. You need to walk through the Gare to get there though, although we walked through the Gare car park as a shortcut with zero hassle. Bellecour is 10 minutes walk away or a short metro ride. The old town is 20-30 minutes walk away, but again not far on the metro. I will stay there again, but will also look to see if there is anything else in the

Why pay for a sleepless night? We had room 12, I think (1st floor right near the stairs) and the large gap below the door allowed in not only smoke, but also noise! -- We could hear EVERYTHING that went on in the passage as well as the goings on for breakfast downstairs. I was hoping to be given a reduction on the rate, as I feel that it was not worth $66, but the receptionist was completely unsympathetic to my complaint. I feel this hotel should be scrapped from Venere booking service if they(Venere)wish to uphold a good reputation.

Very handy to Perrache train station and about a 10-15 minute walk into the centre of town (or catch metro from perrache). Very welcoming staff. Rooms basic but very clean. TV in rooms but no english speaking channels. Reasonable value for money. Only downside was that the room we had (no. 10 I think) was very noisy - near lift, and windows opened onto rear lane where there seemed be continual noise - garbage trucks, cars, bikes etc. Also much vacuuming outside room from early in the morning.
