We liked the place. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was fine, the bathroom was one of the best on this trip, and there was free WiFi in the room. We didn't have the breakfast since it seemed a little pricey (I think like 12 Euros). We would definitely stay there again.

This was a very good hotel. Our room was large and well decorated with a huge bathroom and a good sized sitting area. The public areas were nice-- beautiful lounge and well stocked bar next to reception, and a lovely small pool, of all things, down the hall past reception, near the breakfast area. The only thing is we liked our room so much we didn't take advantage of the public spaces, nor the breakfast (there are many places to grab a coffe and croissant nearby). The area was convenient for walking (10-15 min.) to Rue du Boef and it's many restaurants and "bouchons" (informal places with all the local specialities) in that area. It's also close (2-3 min. walk) to Place des Terreaux, the 2nd largest square in Lyon, and is where the Museum Belle Artes (recommended) is located. The hotel is also perfectly situated if you are interested in touring the traboules (covered and "hidden" passageways), which are actually marked on the city map available at reception (look at map closely). There is a small grocery store directly across the street from the hotel which is a good place to shop for a picnic or just for wine, bottled water, and a snack for the room. Both train stations (Perrache and Part Dieu) are beyond walking distance to the hotel, so get a cab unless you really like to walk and have very little luggage... it is about 40 minutes walk to either station. Lyon is a beautiful city, more Italian Renaissance influence than others in France. If you have your heart set on a specific restaurant for dinner (or any restaurant for that matter) it's best to make reservations. My favorite was Les Retrouvailles in the Rue du Boef area. The husband (elegant silver hair with a cool silver handlebar moustache) cooks in the open kitchen, and the wife does all the rest, perfectly. I knocked over my drink with my menu and was totally embarassed, but the woman was so good about it, and changed out the tablecloth in a jiffy (and got me another drink!).

We loved this hotel and wish we cold have stayed longer. The location was great in a charming, central and safe area. Of all the hotels we stayed in during our 3 weeks in Europe, this was our favorite. It was a great value for the money and the room was adorable. The staff were also very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended!

Room was spacious and well decorated, although orange and reds are not my favorite color scheme. Bathroom was very large and well appointed, although water drains were noisy. Great towel warming rack and robes. We loved the art deco theme throughout the public areas, particularly the lobby. The indoor pool was difficult to access because one had to step up several large steps and the ceiling was low. Overall, a great stay at a great location.

I am quite satisfied with this hotel. At first, we (me and my mom) were given a room at the very end of the 4th floor, which we have to walk up some stairs after taking the lift, and which faced back alleys (bad view). The room was stuffy cos there wasn't any air con. We made the mistake of opening the window with the light on, and very quickly a lot of mosquitoes flew in. We panicked and called the reception. We were then given another room on the same floor, which was near perfect- I think it is the one shown in the photos here- very spacious, lovely decorations, very clean, good view, no need to walk up extra stairs. The room number is 404, Corbeille. Try to get it if you can. However, after we switched to this room, we dared not open the windows, which made the room very hot, as it was July. We left the fan on when we slept. Apart from that, everything else is quite perfect. Overall, pretty satisfied, will recommend to others.

Hotel service by "Sebastian" was excellent! The only thing was our daughter's room did not have AC and they would not accomodate. The rooms were also alittle over-priced. Liked everything else except the VERY small elevator and rude Italian restaurant next door. (They did have excellent food, however!)

Great room ... one of the unmodernised / unhomogenised ones ... full of character, and I don't know how many of those are left as they modernise! We were on the top floor, with natural air con from air flow cause it is above the rooftops and had a great view. But they are fitting aircon to rooms. They also have many standard rooms with less character - beware that as of this date they are not shown in venere.com pictures - however we were lucky. The bed was like a slab of concrete. ... the only bad thing I can say. The staff were wonderful. I enjoyed it a lot. Would go back for sure

Absolutely a bargain. 70 Euros is a great price for a very nice hotel. Carpets in corridor on 5th floor a little dirty, but all in all highly recommendable. Read more on my experiences on www.enjoyfoodtravel.com.

My husband and I went to Lyon in December as a our third city stop during our vacation in France. The hotel was in a great location (in terms of being a short walk to all of the great restaurants amd attractions we wanted to visit), though the immediate surrounding area got a bit shaky at night. The hotel staff was extremely knowledgable and kindly made arrangements, recommendations, and reservations for us whenever we asked. It was a great value for our weak American money and we fell in love with the city of Lyon.

This hotel is absolutely excellent and a bargain at the price - did anyone mention that you get bath robes and slippers in a hotel that is in the centre of a major city and is beautiful- for 104 euros a night ? . I have only one negative thing to say. In the past hotels used to charge for baths, for extra towels, to rent a tv, etc etc. Now such things are looked on as ridiculous. Well this hotel like too many others charges you for internet access. Its very expensive [3 euros for 20 minutes] and as its through SFR its completely unreliable and I paid for 4 sessions of which only one half worked. This is simply not good enough. For the modern traveller the internet is essential and hotels should ensure they have access included in the price if they want to get the highest marks. So if internet access is not important to you stay here and its great, but if it is stay somewhere else.

If you have a chance to stay at this hotel, by all means do. The property is charming, rather unusually beautiful and well decorated for a 3 stars hotel, and impecablly (and I can't stress this enough) kept!!! For a stay in the middle of everything in Lyon, there is no other choice but the Grand Hotel des Terreaux. Bravo to the owners and the staff.

This hotel is great. Well located. The rooms are big ( for France). It was just a little noisy on Friday night because of a party somewhere in the street. The breakfast is perfect. You can have a brunch and skip the lunch easily.

The hotel is a must, and people is so find... The swimming pool in the dining room is a very original idea ! splendid, splendid ! But, in Lyon, impossible to eat in the bouchons lyonnais, all rent to groups

The young man at the front desk (during the day)was extremely helpful and very friendly. He knew a lot about the area and was overall a great presence. There was one lady and the late night gentleman, who were a bit disappointing - neither seemed to "know" much about anything, including their own laundry service! I believe this place was just recently remodeled and it looks amazing. We absolutely loved our room and the hotel overall is beautiful and at a great rate. We would DEFINITELY stay there again. It was one of the nicest places we stayed in while in France. Cheers!

Close to Musee beaux arts and hotel de ville. A short walk to Old Lyon and great restaurants. Staff really friendly and helpful. Management should put a piece of foam rubber on ceiling as you enter the swimming pool. My wife almost hit her head as she walked up steps. A woman from the front desk did bang her head when she brought us a robe. Other than that it was a great stay. Thanks!

A great location, very friendly staff, and attractive public areas including a lovely swimming pool. Although the hotel is rated 3*,presumably based on the facilities it offers e.g pool and bar and a range of much more expensive rooms, the 'standard' room we stayed in was by no means 3 star - only just 2 star, I would say, with dated furnishings and a bathroom that had seen better days. If my 'standard' room was typical, then the photographs were definitely not showing examples of a standard room. Unless you are going to make use of the pool, the standard rooms are not worth the price.

The hotel staff was wonderful. They were very nice and helpful. We only had 1 night in Lyon, and they helped us find the best things to do. I can't say enough about the great staff. They are redoing the hotel in an art deco style and it looks really great. The bar and reception area is very nice. The swimming pool in a sort of cavern is very cool also. They are working on the rooms and the one we stayed in hadn't been redone yet. But, it was still nice, and I bet it will be even better after.

*** hotel has no freezer in room, no fan in room, spooky lift and inside renovation. All attraction in hotel description as pool and others were not operated. Employees were nor cooperative when we ask for help. Our credit cards was stolen and we need help to cancel it from this location. Room in real life was not as on pictures on internet, very unpleasant and we have to switch it. Instead of one room we have to pay for two rooms. Front deck service never gave clear information about restaurants or how to find internet cafe asking to ask someone else. To dry my hair with fan I have to ask front desk to give me one. First time they give me broken one so i have to walk from 5 floor one more time. Lovely... Not advice.
