Hotel Walter au Lac - Lugano

It was the first time, we stayed at Hotel. The loudness of traffic was not so good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was excellent especially Sylvia and could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was great. We just wish we had longer to stay. It was a very good experience.

Hotel needs a refurbishing

Very noisy - feels that the street between the hotel and the lake is going through the rooms . . .

Service at breakfast was excellent although food was limited. For light sleepers, the traffic noise can be troublesome. Lighting in stairways could be brighter. There is very little printed travel information for English speaking tourist. Staff provided excellent service and hotel is within walking distance to many shops and restaurants.

This was the first time at Hotel Walter... excellent location, breathtaking views. The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly, welcoming and helpful. My only complaint was the noise level from the traffic but for a short term stay it is excellent.

The main problem (and dificult to resolve) is the presence of a very noisy avenue under the windows.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay at an excellent hotel which is welcoming, well run and clean. Parking available outside and I would recommend this place to anyone.

Great central location, convenient to the train station funicular, on the lake promenade. The hotel is adjacent to the old city, shops and restaurants. Nice size rooms, although somewhat antiquated. Very helpful and friendly staff. Although we had requested an upper floor balcony room, on our arrival none were available for a two night stay. The hotel accommodated us by providing us an upper floor balcony room for the first night and another room on the same floor for the second night. Views of the lake are outstanding. Hotel staff gave helpful advice about the area and secured tickets for our boat trip. Lugano is beautiful. We enjoyed staying at Walter au Lac.

Hotel had beautiful scenery from room. Room was smaller but was not a problem. Breakfast served was excellent with good food and in a charming room with a wonderful view. Room very bright and cheery. Hotel was older but very charming, as it should be in Europe. Bathroom newly done and clean, clean, clean. Would definitely stay again. Hotel treated us very well and people working there were more than helpful. Felt very comfortable and that was important. Priced reasonably, for everything was catered to make your stay comfortable.

We were generally pleased with our room. we had asked for a balcony if possible and were given a room with a private balcony. Some of the other balconys are ajoining without privacy screens. The room was smaller than some of the others because it was in front of the Lift but we had a more private balcony. Had we stayed more than two nights I may have been willing to sacrifice the private balcony for more space. Could have used more shelf space in the bathroom, but liked the bidet. Not even all the 5star hotels we've stayed in have them. There was a computer in the library/study for free use by the guests. The breakfast was excellent if you are not expecting a hot breakfast(they do have a toaster). Assortment of breads,cheeses,cold meats,jams, cereals, yogurt and fruit.My type of breakfast!The consierge was very helpful. I definately recommend brushing up on your Italian for a trip to Lugano. We felt very "foreign" speaking german and english. There is a very nice boat tour in the afternoon that is multilingual offering English. Beautiful city lovely surroundings. We had a Swiss Flexipass train ticket so our public transportation(great bus system and funicular)was free and the special boat trips discounted.

We enjoyed our stay at the Walter. Wonderful view over the lake from the room. Everything was better than we expected for a 3 star. Hotel garage parking was remote from the hotel and expensive.

Gorgeous location on lake lugano..Air conditioning was great and shutters kept street noise minimal. Free internet on two screens in the library was great. Staff was helpful and friendly. Roof top terrace has a great view. Definitely would stay here again.

Location superb, tea & coffee making facilities,fridge & free internet were an added bonus. Floor squeeked in bedroom but it is a grand old hotel which has been looked after and maintained well. Bed very comfortable, bathroom well appointed. Thoroughly recommend to travellers looking for value for money.

Great Location, Not to far from Hermann Hesse Museum. Older hotel kept up in good condition. Nice staff to help you.

An excellent hotel in a lovely location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Ample Continental breakfast( fruit, cereals, museli, bread, rolls ,cold meats, cheese etc). Room was a little noisy at night but not enough to keep us awake. A liitle expensive but worth the extra for the location and wonderful views of the lake.

Our stay, 8 nights, at the Walter au Lac was unforgettable. This hotel is in the most ideal location right on the shores of Lake Lugano. Our room had a balcony which provided us with the most magnicent view of the lake and surrounding mountains every day. Our room had all the modern facilities plus tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was delicious and was served in a lovely dining room overlooking the lake. Parking is available in the piazza next to the hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and spoke a number of languages. There are a number of restaurants nearby and the one next to the hotel is excellent. Traffic along the road in front of the hotel is busy, but rooms are quite well soundproofed. Boats for Gandria and other lakeside destinations leave from opposite the hotel.We would definitely love to return to the Walter Au Lac.

The hotel is good if you don't have a car. Otherwise, it's best to find something on the outskirt, where,we believe, it would be quiet. Especially for that price.

Our host Roberto could not have been more helpful and his assistance with things such as venue tickets was excellent. The only downside is that the fact that there is no lift and the room is 80 steps from the ground is not made clear. It would very difficult for a person of less than moderate fitness to cope with the stairs.

Furnishings in the room looked like left over mis-matched pieces from 1960 to 1975. The entire hotel is in desperate need of renovation... More hostel than hotel. Bathroom was spacious and modern in comparison to bedroom. Location is the only positive aspect although traffic noise is very loud and constant.

L'hotel est très bien situé, en centre ville et la vue des chambres sur le lac est magnifique. Accueil très souriant. Les chambres sont bien équipées et propres, mais celle que nous avons eue aurait mérité une décoration plus moderne. La salle de petit déjeuner est très agréable. La clientèle est familiale et plutot agée. La rue sous les fenêtres de l'hotel bordant le lac est assez bruyante, la journée avec la circulation, le soir avec les piétons, ce qui impose de fermer les fenêtres. Globalement, nous avons été très satisfait de notre séjour et recommondons le Walter

Definately take the boat to Gandria & the train up to Mt Bre. The hotel is perfectly located to everything-right near the charming "Old Town".

The location of this hotel is fantastic. Opposite the boat trips, in front of the main square, by the lake. Parking was a bit of a trial but you can park in the little square near to the hotel if you can find a spot and go to the police station and request a half day stay at 5 swiss francs. The view from the roof terrace is phenomenal. Service is slow in the public bar/restaurant but if you are not in a rush, who cares, a great place for people watching.

This hotel was one of the greatest surprises I have had. Wonderful location, rooms with spectacular views, very nice employees. I would certainly recommend it to everyone who wants to spend some time in the lovely town of Lugano. Forget other hotels such as Dante or Acquarelo. Walter Hotel au Lac is a very satisfying experience. And breakfast was great! The hotel is very near the station (just take the funicular down and walk a few metres) and right cross street from the main docks where the boats take you to beautiful places such as Gandria. Make no mistake when choosing a hotel in Lugano. I had a joyful time.

Double room ensuite,was very spacious,minibar was replenished daily,rooms were made up every day and spotless. All rooms face the lake and could'nt be more convenient for shops,restaurants. Hotel is well placed,and of a high standard for business,or families,we highly recommend it.

Would definitely stay here again. And strongly recommend it to anyone travelling to Lugano. You needn't look elsewhere.

A nice family run hotel directly on the lake and within 100 yards of shopping and dining. We had a small but sufficient front room with a balcony that looked out over the lake. Parking was full so they let us park directly in front of the hotel.

Hôtel parfait, très accueillant, très bonnes prestations, très bien placé, très belle vue ; mais il manque la climatisation car il est impossible de dormir fenêtres ouvertes avec le bruit de la route.

The Walter is a warm and delightful hotel. They made our stay a delightful one! Our week long visit was in March and we found the location ideal!!The balcony view was beautiful and starting each day in the breakfast room was most pleasant. I would stay here again-the staff is friendly and helpful.

Great hotel in the perfect location - right on the lakeside and within 100 metres the main town center areas. Very welcoming staff. Only downside was the lack of air-conditioning during very hot nights.
