Clean and rather spacious room, a bit outside of centre city but I had things to do around there anyway. Arrived late at night and found my room key in the post box with a note from the reception, efficient enough for me. Some problems asking for directions since the staff didn't really speak english although they tried their best to be of help. Surroundings are uniteresting, on a main street, this is a place for sleeping only. Free internet, small but sufficient breakfast. It's definitely an ok deal for Switzerland at 90 chf per single room.

We choose this hotel because they had a family room. We got there late at night and the family room was already taken. They offered us two rooms on two different floors. Because it was only for one night we accepted it.

The staff was friendly and helpful. We booked a quadriple room and was given an apartment with 2 rooms which was great. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant one night and the food was good and the price was reasonable. There are no lifts and hence you have to take the luggages up the stairs. Overall the stay was good but the hotel rate, like everything in Switzerland, is expensive compare with other countries.

The hotel is in a good location in relation to downtown Lucern but is on a major truck route and therefore is quite noisy. We did not sleep a wink. The room itself was one step above a youth hostel. Would not stay there again or recommend it.

The hotel and the people were absolutely amazing. Everything was clean,in place, and they were very accommodating. The big issue for us was that there was a LOT of noise from the road. We were on the road side, and since it's summer we had to open to windows for ventilation since there is no AC. With the windows closed, the noise isn't bad, but open they will keep you up all night long.

Friendly and helpful reception and good location, 12min walking to down town. Room is basically simple but clean. The bad thing is noise, located in a corner of two streets, so it,s very noisy. Can't open the window and there is no air condition in room.

Had dual pane windows for noise, but needed to open the windows due to heat and thus too noisy from the street just outside. A bit of a walk to town. Less expensive to travel to town to eat. Welcomed the internet computer. Reservations did get messed up and they did help us out with second room.

The room was very hot even though we kept the window open. It was very noisy outside because it was on a main road, so we had difficulty sleeping with the heat and noise. The shower was on the side of the building where the roof slanted so we could not stand up. I am only 5'3"!

In spite of us telling the hotel at the time of booking that I was disabled and had a problem with stairs, we were given a room on the 2nd floor in a hotel with no lift. The hotel is at the junction of 2 busy roads. 1 of these roads is the main road from the autobahn, on the other, about 50 metres from the hotel, there is a very busy train level crossing with an alarm so everybody knows that the gates are closing( which happens every 5/6 minutes) About 100 metres away is a church with a clock that chimes every 15 minutes and in another direction about 200 metres away is a church that likes to ring the bells a lot. Lucerne is a very lovely city but I would not advise anybody to stay at this hotel

Excellent hotel to stay at in terms of value for money. Very friendly and helpful staff. Bus stop right infront of the hotel where you can get a bus for CHF2 which takes you to Lucerne station and town centre in less than 10 mins.

The hotel is a real Bed & Breakfast and nothing else. The room was old and need to beshined up. The beds are unconfortable. The hotel is next to a noise road with traffic nearly the whole night. The breakfast was very basic and you have to pay extra for cheese, etc.

Lovely hotel with very friendly staff. The only real problem is that hotels in Europe don't believe in double beds. Breakfast was s bit disappointing as we had to pay for cereal. Great location for walking to the main area of town. Literally 15-20 minute stroll down the road. only stayed the one night but it was comfortable and decent sized room.

Plumbing system from the next door room would wake us up and the centre light would not come on. Not one of the best hotels we have been too. More for younger people we are a mature couple.

A family of 4, receive a suite with 2 bedrooms, thats excellent, but it was hot, no A/C, asked for fan and they couldn get any, no lift (3rd. floor with a small stair). We had to open the windows and it was very noisy because of the Eurocup (soccer). And the price of hotels in Lucern are very expensive, this one was the best price we could get for a 3 star hotel. The size of the room was very good and the parking place just there.

The hotel was very nice and so are the owners (or managers). The food was excellent the room was large and very clean i would recommend this hotel to everyone. One down side is if the bus is at it's stop when you arrive you are unable to see the Spatz sign because the wording on the wall of the hotel does not say spatz, the full wording of the hotel is on a sign on a pole.

Very noisy room with tiny bathroom. I couldn't sit on the toilet without my knees touching the opposite wall. The smell of cigarettes was everywhere even though it was supposedly non-smoking. Windows couldn't be opened for ventilation as the traffic noise was excessive. Included breakfast consisted of a few pieces of bread, butter and jam. Only just adequate.

We were travelling around Switzerland when we stayed in Spatz. As we arrived late in the evening, it was a little hard to find the property as it was not that close to the train station. The people there was quite helpful and adviced us the second day that there was bus 1 going directly to the train station. We booked for a double room and were arranged a triple one, and still charged for the price quoted on the website for double room. The breakfast was a little dissapointing, compared with other hotels we stayed in Switzerland. It definitely could be better with the price. The best of this hotel is the wireless connection,it was totally free, as many hotels charged for it. The surrounding was excellent, safem, nice, quite. So, we were generally satisfied with it.

The fact that the hotel had changed its name was not helpful in locating it. The lack of an on-site restaurant for evening meals on the nights we stayed was unfortunate. We had nice, but expensive, meals at nearby restaurants.

Spent 4 nights at Spatz hotel and I suggest people to take bus No. 1 from train station rather then walk. If u walk, if will take u about 15 - 20 mins. The hotel was pretty ok but no lift, the good thing is it had free Internet access. Breakfast is ok and the staff there were so nice.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and generally enjoyed the stay. Several comments: (1) The distance to downtown Luzern from the hotel is a bit far for walking. Having to shell out 2 SF for each of us for the bus to the downtown area (4 SF roundtrip) got a bit old. On the other hand, the bus does run virtually from the front door of the hotel, and runs often. (2) The breakfast was one of the skimpiest we encountered in Switzerland...not much more than coffee and rolls. (3) Both streets next to the hotel were very busy and noisy until late at night. It was cool enough during our stay that we could close the windows and keep out most of the noise (we were also an upper floor), but in the middle of summer I would expect the steet noise to be intrusive.

Of all the places we stayed at during our 18 days in Europe, this was by far the least desirable. Spatz is located on a very busy street and, as there is no air conditioning, we were forced to leave the windows open for ventilation. Traffic noise through the night was unbearable. The room was marginally clean and the general appearance of the hotel is dingy. Breakfast consisted of a cup of coffee and a role, far less than any other place we stayed.

As nice as they were, DO NOT STAY HERE. It a very very overpriced hostel. You're better off staying in a hostel. That nice picture of the restaurant has no relation to the hotel. The comforters were dirty, and there was no top sheet. AND there were possibly bed bugs (we had small bug bites in the morning).

Generally speaking this hotel offers very good value for money in the expensive Swiss hotel scene. The only slight negative is the location on a busy road junction which generates considerable traffic noise. However, this dies down overnight allowing a good night's rest. Parking is off road, although the space is tight. The attached restaurant is excellent and worth visiting the hotel for. Note that there is no No Smoking area in the restaurant.

Excellent small hotel. Very spacious accomodation, infact it's an appartment with 2 rooms and plenty of space. Breakfast needs big improvement, some cereals and eggs would have made it eatable... it was only bread and buter!!! Very helpful managment (family managed hotel). About 1.5 km from the main station and this information should be given to the tourists. Conveniently located near a bus stop and well connected with city. Would like to stay again...

We were in Lucern twice on our trip and stayed here, in tripple rooms, both times. The Spatz is a very nice small hotel. The staff is very helpfull and really nice. Only the manager/owner speaks english but everyone tries to help you all they can. The rooms are spacious and very nice bathrooms. We all stept very good there a total of 3 nites. We were very happy with breakfast bread, roles, butter, assorted jams, coffee, tea and oj. There is no elevater and 4 stories this might be a prob for some. The # 1 bus takes you right to the front of the hotel to and from the train station in 10 min or you can walk it in 15. I would stay ther any time i was in Lucern. The Spatz served all our needs and stayed in our budget.

I tend to consider all Swiss hotels a bit overpriced, but Spatz is quite a decent option around Luzern, especially if you arrive in a car, as we did, since the hotel has free parking, is close to the highway, on a wide road and still close to Luzern's centre. The photo you see is of a building which hosts a restaurant (run independently) and the hotel, so if we hadn't been there once before, we could have easily missed it ("Hotel Spatz" is only written on the entrance door in small letters). We had trouble communicating with the staff, since we do not speak German, and their English was nothing much, really. The announced 24-hour reception is not true: no one was there at midnight, when we arrived, but they did leave the key in the letter box. The breakfast was a joke (a couple of slices of ham and cheese, tea and jam - our German-speaking neighbours asked for an egg, but we couldn't make ourselves understood to the staff). On the positive side, the rooms are quite spacious, the common area clean and the restaurant in the same building is quite good. We totally enjoyed our stay in Luzern, and as a place to spend the night, this hotel is quite adequate.

We stayed in the hotel Spatz on Jul 3-5, 04. The rooms, hotel surrounding and employees were nice. The bus stops were very close to the hotel. Even though there was no elevator and the computer available was only 1, it did not reduce our overall happiness staying in this hotel, and this is the best hotel we had during our Euro trip this year.
