Everything was good, The room ( we got an upgrade without asking anything), the room was clean and comfortable, short walk to major points of interest.

A really excellent small hotel inside the walls of Lucca. The rooms are comfortable, the service friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet one of the best.

This was a beautiful hotel and close to everything. The staff very friendly and professional. The "extras", like free lounge with snacks and fresh fruit were appreciated. The breakfast was excellent. The walls in the room were a little thin and we did hear our neighbors, but this was not a major problem.

Room better than expected. Service excellent. A place to return to (was not the first visit to this hotel)

We were very well looked after at the hotel - and received very special service from all the employees particularly an energetic and friendly front desk manager. It felt as if we were very special to the hotel, not simply guests passing through for a couple of days. The room was great and the little touches were well appreciated.

This place was the highlight of our trip. The staff at reception were especially helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was absolutely delicious - best on our holiday - and served in a glorious breakfast room. I loved everything about this place!

This was an 'okay' hotel. I really would not rate it as a four star though - more like a 3 star +. Nice that they give you free coffee and snacks in the lobby. Bed was like a rock though - very hard time getting to sleep. Staff were very nice and friendly. Breakfast was good and being lent a bicycle by the hotel was good too.

Very comfortable, quiet and well-located. The staff was helpful and gave our traveling companions a terrific upgrade at no extra cost so they could be near us in the hotel. I would recommend with no hesitation. The only fault I found was with the breakfast offered-- the coffee was from a self-serve machine and the food was not of the quality or selection we've become used to in Italy. Otherwise, it was great.

Great hotel with fantastic location within walls and close to places to visit and eat. Good value and great breakfast choice. Would stay again without doubt.

Lucca is a beautiful old city with a very comfortable atmosphere. The hotel is well situated within the walls. Parking in the courtyard is easy and free. Our room in the annexe was well appointed and comfortable (the electric shutters to the hanging cupboard were fun), but a room in the main building over the gardens would be quieter if you like to keep the window open at night. The hotel's free bicycles are a nice touch and a 20 minute ride round the old walls sets you up well for the very good breakfast - although the coffee machine requires some unusual skills and doesn't necessarily give you what you want. Lucca has some good restaurants - we enjoyed the Gli Orti di Via Elisa (just round the corner) and San Colombano, on the walls about 10 minutes walk away. We'll be back as soon as we can!

The hotel is a bit "old style" but it is part of its fashion, also because rooms have been renovated with flat TV screen, etc. It's position is just perfect to reach any nice corner of the city. Breakfast was "poor" compared to other 4 stars hotels, but I am more used to business hotels, more crowded, therefore with higher choice. Rooms were very well cleaned and while I was out for a walk, someone came in for a further check and order. I would definitively recommend this hotel for a stay in Lucca.

This is a terrific hotel--one of the most beautiful we stayed at in Italy. The annex rooms are definitely the best--the most spacious, quiet and beautiful.

This was a very good hotel, great location considering we had a vehicle, parking was provided free, tv connections had multiple langueages, hotel staff was the best of all those during our visit in Italy of six weeks. We stayed across the street at their annex that seems to have their newer upgraded rooms. The use of hotel bicycles was very nice and helped out a lot.

All the staff were very professional but also friendly. The housekeeping was excellent as was the breakfasts. The hotel provides free coffee and snack facilities throughout the day which is an added bonus.Unfortunately during our stay the coffee making machine was out of order for some of the time. Friends who were also staying at the hotel, thought that their rooms could have benefitted from more wardrobe hanging space.Apart from these small comments, our 4 day stay was a very pleasant experience. We all agreed we would return to this hotel again.

This was a great hotel. the service was very accomodating. And we received an upgraded room in the building down the street which was HUGE! The breakfast in the morning was perfect and had a lot of selection -- including several gluten free selections for my wife. Also overnight parking was free. we also ate at Da'Olivio which was the best meal we had in Italy. Perfetto! I highly recommend this hotel, especially in June -- before the Puccini festival.
United Kingdom, May 2008
I think the price was fair apart for our last night when it was almost double the price, even the hotel staff thought it had been an error when I mentioned it but unfortunately it was'nt.

We arrived after about 24 hours of plane & train travel and found the Hotel Ilaria to be an oasis to recover from our weariness. It had the best breakfast of any hotel we stayed at. The location within the walled city was charming. It was an easy walk from the train station. It was a great beginning to our 17 day trip in multiple cities.

The hotel is a little hard to drive to and you will struggle to park a large car but once parked up, Lucca is a beautiful city to walk around. You will need to find a restaurant for your evening meal but there are plenty nearby.

With thanks to front desk staff, especially Fabrizio Mazzini and Sri Lankan staff for a very helpful stay.

Absolutely wonderful hotel! We would stay here again and again. Excellent location, friendly and attentive multi-lingual staff, coffee bar with drinks and snacks available all day at no charge, bicycles, public areas that were welcoming and private enough to actually sit and relax in. Lucca was charming, and Ilaria was the icing on the cake. My husband and I fall somewhere between "young couple" and "mature couple," but I promise you either would be very happy here! As to noise, our first room faced the road and was just a bit loud during morning rush hour. Housekeeping was cleaning the room across from ours and my husband checked it out; its view was of trees and a lovely courtyard, so we asked to switch. Very quiet the second morning!

The city is a wonderful example of a walled city.

We were surprised by the quality of the hotel. The review I had read lead me to believe that Ilaria was a small family owned and run hotel but it was more than this. In addition, we were upgraded to a suite which was quite "grand" compared to what we were expecting and away from the main hotel complex. The only negatives from our point of view were that it was a little noisy first thing in the morning as the local area came to life and breakfast was down the road in the main hotel building.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that, unfortunately, we'd been upgraded to a suite in the new accomodation block across the road from the hotel. I'm not sure why they thought this was such bad news, as the suite was absolutely brilliant. I therefore can't comment on the normal rooms, but judging by everything else we saw during our stay, I'm sure they were fine. The hotel is in a nice part of town, not too far from the sights. The staff were excellent. It's possible that the hotel is a little on the pricey side, but having been upgraded, I can hardly complain about what we got for our money! Would definitely stay here again.

Both of us felt extremely welcome at this family owned boutique hotel in Lucca. The owner personally greeted us and was there every day to oversee his hotel and staff. It was particularly nice to have a spread of cookies, coffee, soft drinks and fresh fruit available gratis every day in the lobby. An excellent breakfast in a beautiful hotel and city. This was our second visit to Lucca and when we return it will be to the Hotel Ilaria. We strongly recommend this excellent hotel.

If there were any flaw at all with Ilaria in Lucca, it was the initial failure to describe to the incoming guest all of the services (such as free bicycles and free audio guide to the city) the hotel provides. Nor did I see that info published in the hotel guide in our room. Still, a very fine hotel by my standard.

The hotel was immaculate, excellent service, wonderful location and a lovely breakfast each morning. I would definitely recommend, just be prepared for a very 'firm' mattress.

If you are looking to stay inside the walls of Lucca, Ilaria is a very good choice. The hotel is convenient to many good restaurants and most historical/artistic features of Lucca. The whole staff was wonderful, helpful in everyway. Fabrizio and Latizia were very sweet and caring. Paolo was also eager to be helpful. Tell them we said "Hello." Don't miss sitting outside on the porch for a drink before dinner, after walking around town all day. It's not a cheap hotel, but we got a decent rate (200 euros) on venere. They try to push restaurants owned by the same people. Those are not bad, but seek out Barala, D'Olivo, Da Francesco, all in town, and Al Porto, which is a short walk outside the walls. You'll find only Italians at the last two restaurants, so bring your dictionary. In our desire not to have to pack our bags every 2 or 3 days, we chose Lucca as our base to explore the area. Our one regret is that we probably spent too many nights there relative to what there is to do. If you are staying for a while in Tuscany and don't want to change hotels a lot, better to be based in Siena.

A very good, modern and efficient hotel with a central location inside the walled city. But it lacks characters. Good place to stay for those with money to burn or on business ( company pays ). Abit on the expensive side for an establishment of this kind

Our street-side ground-floor room was a bit noisy - ask for an park-side room! Otherwise a very pleasant stay (we extended it by one night), even if a bit pricy.

I booked a single room and asked for a single room upon arrival and instead was given a far more expensive room that I did not need. The room at Ilaria was more expensive than any other I stayed in while in Europe. I would rate it only slightly better than the cheapest and significantly worse than the rest.

Exellently located, nice rooms, and good quality of treatment in hotel, as always in italy the quality of hotels is not like the high level as in us or rest of europe but overall the best place to stay in lucca for a reasoable price

A lovely small hotel. I particularly liked the daytime free buffet in the breakfast area - do not make the mistake of using the Mini Bar when the same cold beer is available free downstairs ! It is quite difficult to drive into and although the hotel's own literature makes it quite clear how to do it, none of their literature was sent to us and the web information does not carry this.
